Delhi: AAP MLA Imran Hussain defies lockdown and flouts social distancing norms amid the Coronavirus crisis, gets into a spat with the Police

AAP MLA Imran Hussain was caught violating lockdown norms issued by the Central Government in conjunction with the state governments in the Sadar Bazar area of Delhi. Furthermore, he got into a spat with Delhi Police personnel working to implement the lockdown norms. In the video shared by TOI journalist Raj Shekhar Jha, the AAP MLA from Ballimaran could be seen claiming that it was because of the Delhi Police that he had gathered such a huge crowd on the streets.

In the said video, people could be seen defying lockdown norms and flouting social distancing advisory openly. The Delhi Police can be heard telling people to disperse and telling Imran Hussain to allow them to perform their duty while he performs his. The Police can also be heard telling the AAP MLA that he is interfering with his work. The conduct of Imran Hussain severely jeopardises India’s battle against the Wuhan Coronavirus which is known to be gravely infectious.

The Delhi Coronavirus situation

As of the time of writing this report, Delhi had a total of 2918 cases with 877 discharged and 54 deceased as per the official website of the Ministry of Family and Health Welfare. Meanwhile, the Delhi Government led by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal has warned doctors to not flag their concerns on social media claiming that it will embarrass government.

Mamata Banerjee indulges in political blame game amid the Coronavirus crisis, falsely claims Central Govt earlier announced delivery of Rs. 15 lakh to everyone

Mamata Banerjee flew into a fit of rage against the Central Government on Monday and engaged in a long tirade against it. The rant was supposed to serve as an excuse for the disastrous manner in which the West Bengal government has handled the Wuhan Coronavirus crisis thus far. The Chief Minister accused the central government of not cooperating enough with her, a complaint not made by any other Chief Minister, and accused it of engaged in petty politics against her, when in fact it is the other way around.

During her rant, Mamata Banerjee reiterated the now overused and fatigued fake news about Narendra Modi promising to deliver Rs. 15 lakhs in the bank accounts of every citizen. She went a step ahead and claimed that the central government itself had announced that the said amount would be delivered in the back account of every citizen. In reality, the Prime Minister never made such a promise. While speaking about Black Money stashed abroad, he had only said rhetorically that the amount stashed abroad is so large that if the Indian government could succeed in bringing back all of that, then every citizen would get 15 lakh rupees in their account.

The Chief Minister further says that if an amount of Rs. 10,000 is given to every poor of the country, then if the lockdown is extended for two or three more months, then no one will be affected. In reality, the extension of the lockdown for such a long period of time is neither feasible nor desirable. The cost of the economic devastation and the consequent loss of livelihood caused by such a prolonged lockdown will be too grave. Therefore, the withdrawal of the lockdown in a phased manner is the only way.

Furthermore, Mamata Banerjee somehow manages to drag psychology into her rant and claims that she will follow central guidelines only if they are ‘proper, transparent’ and without any political interference. She was also angry that officials of the state government have been asked to keep the central government informed regarding the developments in the state in order to provide for better coordination. She claimed that it was taking too much of their time and hampering their work.

Mamata Banerjee also claimed that people from other states are entering West Bengal because lockdown has not been imposed well enough. She claimed that lockdown has been implemented effectively in the state, however, when ten people somehow gather at one single place, pictures are captured and claimed that the lockdown was not enforced effectively by her government.

Significant announcement by Mamata Banerjee

Briefing the press at a virtual news conference on Monday, Mamata Banerjee said: “We have taken a decision. If a person has tested positive for COVID-19 and he/she has the provision to isolate himself/herself at his/her residence, the person can home quarantine himself/herself. Lakhs and lakhs can’t be quarantined, the government too has its limits.”

It is pertinent to note that patients who test positive for Coronavirus cannot be ‘home quarantined’. They need to be isolated and receive treatments. It is alarming to note that Mamata Banerjee is indirectly admitting that there are so many positive cases in West Bengal that the state seems to have run out of hospital beds.

West Bengal sitting on a Coronavirus “time-bomb”

The suppression of facts and fudging of data has become a major worry for authorities and health experts in West Bengal, which has now snowballed into a huge controversy between the Trinamool Congress-led West Bengal government and health-care experts.

The health-care experts believe that the situation in Bengal is very grave as the Mamata Banerjee-led government has not been giving real data to assess the actual seriousness of the pandemic. From threats to doctors for whistleblowing against the state government against lack of facilities to allegations of state government illegally disposing of dead bodies, there have been serious allegations against the Mamata Banerjee government in Bengal.

11 hours and counting: Mumbai Police continues to interrogate Arnab Goswami for questioning Sonia Gandhi’s silence over Palghar lynching

Republic TV’s Arnab Goswami has been at Mumbai’s NM Joshi Marg Police station since past 11 hours where Mumbai Police is interrogating over his comments where he questioned Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi’s silence over Palghar Sadhu lynching. He is still being interrogated at the time of this report.

After receiving 2 notices in 12 hour period for immediate interrogation by the Mumbai police yesterday, Republic TV Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami appeared at the NM Joshi Marg Police station on Monday morning to subject himself for interrogation by the Mumbai Police, following multiple cases by Congress functionaries for questioning Sonia Gandhi’s silence on Palghar lynching, days after he and his wife and Republic TV Editor Samyabrata Ray Goswami were attacked by self-confessed and declared Youth Congress workers on their way home from Republic’s studios late at night.

Arnab was accompanied by his lawyer Sujay Kantawala and upheld that truth will win and that he has nothing to hide.

Arnab’s video message before getting into police station

Before going into the police station for questioning, Arnab said that he will subject himself to the interrogation as a law-abiding citizen. Arnab asserted that he has said nothing wrong and stands by his statement on the Congress interim President, Sonia Gandhi. Arnab accused the Maharashtra government of subjecting him to “political, malicious and motivated” charges.

In the video, Arnab asked the Mumbai Police Commissioner, Param Bir Singh, to also investigate the midnight attack on him and his wife in the city and accused the cops of covering up the charges against the Congress party. He alleged that the attack on him was ordered by the Vadra Congress and on the instructions of the higher-ups in Congress leadership without doubts. He further said that “evidence was given to prove that the Congress leadership was involved in instigating and celebrating the attack and therefore I believe that it is completely unfair of the Mumbai police to cover up that case while investigating this case. It only shows that there is a lot of political prejudice involved in the matter, said Republic TV Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami.

Arnab Goswami issued statement after Mumbai police summoned him for immediate interrogation

Earlier, on Sunday, Arnab had received two notices in 12 hours from the Mumbai Police seeking to interrogate him, which he said he would comply with as a law-abiding citizen.

In his statement, he issued after receiving the notices Arnab said that despite his repeated requests to the Mumbai Police to mention the role of Vadra Congress and its leadership in the attack and celebrating it, the police has refused to do so. He has also shared further facts with Mumbai Police so that the role of Vadra Congress is not erased. “I am sure the Mumbai Police will not sidestep the detailed evidence available on the role of the Vadra Congress and delete the element of conspiracy and assault in the attack,” his statement said.

Arnab Goswami attacked

Arnab Goswami and his wife Samyabrata Ray were followed by two Congress goons little past midnight on Thursday when they were returning home from the Republic studio. The goons threw bottles at Arnab’s car and were eventually apprehended by his security personnel. Arnab has mentioned in his complaint that the Mumbai police had refused to name Youth Congress in their FIR. The two goons, identified as Arun Dilip Borade and Prateek Kumar Shyam Sunder Mishra of Mumbai of Youth Congress, had allegedly confessed that they were sent by their ‘higher-ups’.

Arnab questioned Sonia Gandhi’s silence over Palghar incident

Launching an attack against Sonia Gandhi, Arnab Goswami had questioned if she would have maintained the silence she is exhibiting today had Christian padres been killed instead of Hindu sadhus in the horrifying lynching incident in Palghar. However, soon after, Congress leaders and many journalists started abusing Arnab and by extension Prime Minister Modi implying he was responsible for Arnab questioning Sonia Gandhi’s silence.

Did Mamata Banerjee just admit that the scale of Coronavirus in West Bengal is far greater than being reported? Here is what she said

0

At the time when the central government and various other state government’s stand resolute to support and patronize with citizens in their fight with the deadly pathogen which has consumed several lives worldwide, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, once again, exhibits ultimate apathy towards the people of her state as she recommended home quarantine for people testing positive for novel coronavirus.

Briefing the press at a virtual news conference on Monday, Mamata Banerjee said: “We have taken a decision. If a person has tested positive for COVID-19 and he/she has the provision to isolate himself/herself at his/her residence, the person can home quarantine himself/herself. Lakhs and lakhs can’t be quarantined, the government too has its limits,” the West Bengal CM.

Mamata blames Centre

While she unrelentingly shrugs off her own responsibility by making such a bizarre announcement, denying proper medical facilities, which is the need of the hour, to those fighting the deadly pathogen, she audaciously called on the Centre to take responsibility for the hardship being faced by the poor.

Netizens question Mamata Banerjee’s move

Nevertheless, West Bengal Chief Minister, who has already been on the receiving end for her noncompliance and unresponsiveness in tackling the coronavirus cases in the state, once again, came under the attack of netizens who wondered whether this statement for hers is an inadvertent admission of the mess West Bengal is currently in and her government’s inadequacy in handling coronavirus cases in the state.

It is also pertinent to note that patients who test positive for Coronavirus cannot be ‘home quarantined’. They need to be isolated and receive treatments. It is alarming to note that Mamata Banerjee is indirectly admitting that there are so many positive cases in West Bengal that the state seems to have run out of hospital beds.

Some angry netizens wondered whether this was an admission that West Bengal is in a totally uncontrollable state.

A few others were so outraged that they were quick to juxtapose Mamata love for illegal Bangladeshis with her apathy towards the state’s people.

Mamata Banerjee Defiant

On April 20, the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee questioned the formation of the Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCT) constituted by the Central Government for quick redressal of coronavirus crisis in states claiming that it is ‘not consistent with the spirit of federalism’.

After Sunny Gupta was killed days before sister’s marriage, one Adil Mirza arrested for using his murder to incite hate, called for killing ‘all Hindus’

0

On April 20, a man named Sunny Gupta was murdered in Patna in Bihar after being shot by one Chand Mohammad over a dispute regarding lockdown restrictions between the local youths and the NCC cadets. Sunny Gupta was sitting in his balcony when an altercation ensued between the two groups over lockdown restrictions that have been imposed in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. The youths then resorted to stone-pelting and firing shots at the cadets. Unfortunately, one of the bullets hit Sunny who was not even remotely involved with the incident. He was then rushed to the hospital where he breathed his last on Monday night.

Sunny’s sister’s wedding was just around the corner

Sunny was murdered at a time when his family was busy in the marriage preparations. On May 1, Sunny’s sister Deepika was scheduled to get married. However, there was a cloud of uncertainty over it because of the nationwide lockdown to battle the coronavirus spread. Nevertheless, the family was cautiously preparing for the wedding. But now, following the unfortunate death of Sunny, the marriage has been indefinitely postponed to a later date, said Sunny’s brother Deepak Gupta.

The victim’s family has raised apprehensions over the role of local administration. Though police personnel are stationed outside their home for their protection, Deepak claims that the family is still plagued with concerns of their safety until the main accused Chand Mohammad is not arrested.

Earlier Deepak had told Opindia that Chand is a smuggler of arms. Deepak’s family has long been opposing his hooliganism and were therefore on the list of his prime targets. According to Deepak, Chand barged into their house on the day of the incident and shot Sunny in his head.

However, Khajekalan police station-in charge Sanovar Khan has denied these allegations. He said that a case was registered against six people. Out of these, five were immediately arrested. The search for Chand Mohammad is underway. He admits that Chand is a history-sheeter and will be arrested soon. However, he denied providing detailed information about the case saying the matter is serious and complete information can not be shared with the media at this point in time.

Sunny Gupta had a tent business and was married three years ago. He has left behind his two-year-old son Anurag and a 4-month-old daughter Aaradhya. Sunny had gotten into a dispute with local youths on April 20 after they started pelting stones at the NCC cadets who opposed the former’s brazen violation of the lockdown restrictions.

Responding against the horrific atrocity meted out on Sunny and his family, former councillor Balram Chaudhary and corporator Shobha Devi sat on a fast demanding immediate arrest of accused Chand. Chaudhary also added that they have also demanded appropriate compensation for the family along with their safety. A letter has been written in this regard to the chief minister of the state.

Adil Mirza tries to exploit the death of Sunny Gupta

Soon after Sunny Gupta was cruelly gunned by Chand Mohammad, one Adil Mirza tried to exploit his death by stoking communal passions on social media. He posted inflammatory content on Facebook through a fake account with the name Shahzad Siddique. Adil has been arrested by the police.

Posting from a Facebook profile created under Shahzad Siddiqui’s name, Adil wrote, “Right that he was shot dead. If I were there, I would have killed him too. Mothers of all Hindus will be f**ked, these motherf**kers think we Muslims are weak. These all motherf**ckers belong to the RSS. We will barge into your houses and kill you…All Hindus should be shot dead.”

Talking to OpIndia, Khajekalan police station officer Sanovar Khan said that a man named Adil had made objectionable remarks on the Social Media regarding the death of Sunny Gupta to vitiate the communal harmony. He said that soon after his offensive post was flagged and brought to the attention of police, Adil was arrested.

According to media reports, Mohammad Adil Mirza, a resident of Fauzdari Mohalla of Khajekalan police station area, created two fake accounts in the wake of Sunny Gupta’s death to incite communal passions. He targeted Bihar’s Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav and the former councillor, Balaram Chaudhary, with fake accounts and threatened to shoot them. Adil was arrested by the police soon after his post went viral. The police have retrieved a laptop and a mobile phone from him.

The media reports claimed that Adil held a grudge against Shahzad and therefore created a fake account under his name to stoke hatred. Adil had reportedly come from Saudi Arabia in October 2019. During this time, Shahzad’s bike was stolen and was found in possession with Adil. Shahzad had then beaten Adil to the pulp. To avenge this thrashing, Adil posted the provocative posts on Facebook under Shahzad’s name. A report published in Live Hindustan that quoted city SP said that the atmosphere in the city could have worsened as Adil was consistently making offensive remarks.

The mass gathering at the Markaz Nizamuddin in Delhi, and the subsequent transport of the virus through carriers across the length and breadth of India has jeopardised greatly the safety and health of this country. However, if the gathering itself was irresponsible borne of a toxic mix of ignorance, stupidity and callousness, the conduct of the Jamaatis that followed could only be attributed to their perversity.

‘L’ strain of coronavirus possibly responsible for the higher death rate in Gujarat: State health secretary Dr Jayanti Ravi

0

The Gujarat government on Monday said that the low recovery rate and higher mortality in the coronavirus cases in the state could be attributed to the dominance of ‘L’ strain of the COVID19 virus present in the state.

In a video briefing this morning, Gujarat state health secretary Dr Jayanti Ravi said that there are two strains of the coronavirus-‘S’ strain and ‘L’ strain. She added that the ‘S’ strain which is witnessed in cases in Kerala and other states has a mild impact while the ‘L’ strain as witnessed in the patients in Gujarat is much more fatal, claiming that the heightened virulence of the strain found in Gujarat is the reason for the lower discharge rates and a higher number of COVID-19 related deaths in the state.

She also said that the Gujarat government arm-Gujarat Biotechnology Research Centre(GBRC) has come out with the entire genome sequence of the virus, adding that samples of ‘L’ strain are to be collected from the patients including those who die of the deadly contagion.

Strains of coronavirus

As per a study published in the National Science Review, the more virulent L type of coronavirus was found more in the initial stages of Wuhan outbreak, but its rate of occurrence diminished due to human intervention. Titled as- ‘On the origin and continuing evolution of SARS-CoV-2’, the study asserted that based on the population genetic analyses of 103 SARS-CoV-2 genomes, it was revealed that these viruses evolved into two major types (designated L and S), that are well defined by two different SNPs that show nearly complete linkage across the viral strains sequenced to date.

“While the L type was found in the early stages of the outbreak in Wuhan, the commonness of the L type decreased after early January 2020. One of the reasons for this could be the human intervention that posed selective pressure on the L type, which might be more aggressive and spread more rapidly. On the other hand, the S type, which is the ancestral version and less aggressive, may have increased in relative frequency due to relatively weaker selective pressure,” according to the study.

As per a report published in the Indian Express, an infectious disease specialist at the Sterling hospital, Atul Patel claimed that the mortality rate in Kerala is extraordinarily low because most of the patients in Kerala came from Dubai which has the milder S strain. He also added that the ‘L’ strain, which is viciously aggressive, was more prevalent in European countries like Italy and Spain, which have seen a large number of coronavirus casualties. “In the US, the New York data is entirely different from the rest of its states. Patients from New York were all travellers from Europe,” he said.

Out of over 3000 confirmed cases of the disease, Gujarat has seen 133 deaths.

Delhi police arrest Jamia Alumni Association’s president Shifa-Ur-Rehman in connection to the Delhi Anti-Hindu Riots

On Sunday the Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested one Shifa-Ur-Rehman, the president of the Jamia Alumni Association (JMA), for involvement in the Delhi Anti-Hindu riots under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Sources have revealed that he was called for questioning on Sunday and was subsequently arrested after incriminating evidence was found against him.

As per reports, Delhi Police have stated that Shifa was caught on CCTV footage in riot-hit areas of North East Delhi. Technical evidence such as call records and Whatsapp messages have suggested his role in inciting mobs during the Delhi Anti-Hindu riots. Shifa-Ur-Rehman has been remanded to 10 days in judicial custody by a local court.

As per reports, Delhi Police in its application demanding custody of Shifa said that the interrogation of witnesses has revealed that Shifa Ur Rehman received funds from alumni association of JMI based in Middle Eastern countries and he was coordinating at the protest sites. “He is also found actively involved in a conspiracy hatched in setting up anti CAA/NPR/NRC protests at various sites in Delhi, giving hate speeches that led to the riots in February 2020 at various protest sites, i.e., Jamia Nagar, Shaheen Bagh, Seelampur, Khureji, Inderlok and Hauz Rani,” Delhi Police said in its statement.

Umar Khalid arrested by Delhi Police

Earlier, JNU student leader Umar Khalid was booked under UAPA in a case related to the anti-Hindu riots in Delhi. Two other leaders from the Jamia Coordination Committee, Meeran Haider and Safoora Zargar were booked under the same Act. The two are now in judicial custody after they were arrested last week. The Police had claimed in the FIR that the communal violence was a “premeditated conspiracy” by Khalid and others.

Zargar is the media co-ordinator of the Jamia Coordination Committee and Haider is a member. So far, 10 people have been arrested by the special cell of Delhi Police that is looking into the Delhi riots that were orchestrated timed with US President Donald Trump’s visit to India.

The Delhi Riots

Massive communal riots broke out in the national capital during Donald Trump’s visit to India. The riots cost huge losses to life and property. Over the course of the investigation, the role of Radical Islamist organization PFI and others came to the fore. Home Minister Amit had promised on the floor of the Parliament that a thorough investigation into the matter would be carried out and the guilty would be punished.
