Assam: Singer Altap Hussain detained for trying to stir communal tensions through his songs

0

Assam Police on Saturday (August 31) detained a singer named Altap Hussain. Altap Hussain, a resident of Dhubri district, was inciting hatred among local communities through his songs. The lyrics of his song are similar to the Bangladeshi protest song ‘Desh Ta Tomar Bapar Naki’ by Athun Babu and Mousumi. His song is being widely viewed on social media.

This incident took place amid growing tension between local communities after the recent rape of a minor girl by three Muslim youths in Nagaon district. OC J Baishya of Gauripur police station said, “A case was registered against him under section 196/299 of BNS in Gauripur police station. Today we have detained Altap.”

According to a report by Times of India, singer Altaap has been charged under Section 196/299 of the Indian Penal Code 2023 (BNS) for ‘promoting enmity between different groups on the basis of religion and caste’ and ‘doing malicious acts with intent to outrage religious feelings of any class, religion or religious beliefs by insulting them’. This song of Altaap Hussain has reached millions of people through social media platforms. In this song, the targeting of ‘Miyan’ (Muslims who have migrated from Bangladesh and settled in Assam) has been challenged. The Hindi lyrics of these songs are – ‘Is Assam your father’s land that you always want to drive Miyan away?’ and ‘Everyone commits crime but you only find fault with Miyan.’

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he will not let ‘Miyan’ take over the state despite allegations of bias. Speaking in the Assembly, Sarma discussed the crime rate and the recent gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Nagaon. He emphasised on a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy on crimes against women and promised strict action against the culprits.

A minor girl studying in class 8 was gang-raped on 22nd August 2024 in Dhing, Assam. 3 people from the Muslim community were accused of this gang rape. After this incident, protests started across the state and people opened a front against ‘Miyan’. Many organizations involved in the protest had given an ultimatum to Miyans to vacate Upper Assam.

The protesters had called Miyan a problem for the society and gave them a 7-day ultimatum to leave the area. An organization named Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad said, “The entire incident has been done by Miyan Muslims. Miyan has now become a problem for Assam. There are many Miyan in Lower Assam as well. They are involved in crimes like rape, robbery, drug trafficking. People are very upset with them.”

At the same time, the organizations announcing the expulsion of Miyan have been challenged by Congress MLA from Assam Abdur Rashid Mandal. He said that the protesters will not be able to remove Miyan from Upper Assam. Condemning the Dhing incident, Abdur Rashid further said that everyone cannot be blamed for the mistake of some people. He said that Miyan is contributing in various fields of Assam.

Bangladesh: BNP and Jamaat Islamists continue purging Hindu and other minorities from educational institutions, at least 49 minority teachers forced to resign since 5th August

The protesting ‘students’ and extremists linked with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) – who have gained power since the ouster of Awami League – have continued purging Hindu and other minorities from educational institutions throughout Bangladesh. At least 49 teachers belonging to the Hindu faith or other religious minority groups have been forced to resign across the country since 5th August. As per reports, these extremists and radical students gheraoed teachers belonging to the religious minority groups and seiged their offices.

After humiliating, manhandling, and threatening them, the mob forced them to resign the minority teachers by signing blank papers. Notably, on 31st August, the student wing of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad – Bangladesh Chhatra Oikya Parishad – revealed the information at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club.

The minority organisation said that at least 49 teachers belonging to minority communities were forced to resign across the country after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led government amid a student-led peoples’ uprising on 5th August 5.

One of the coordinators of the organisation, Sajib Sarkar said following the fall of the Hasina-led government, religious and ethnic minorities have faced attacks, looting, assault on women, vandalism of temples, arson attacks on homes and businesses, and killings. In addition, minority teachers across the country have been physically assaulted and at least 49 of them were forced to resign till 30th August.

He, however, added that 19 of these teachers have been reinstated after the Interim government faced massive backlash.

Bakerganj government college Principal Shukla Rani Halder is among the minority teachers who were forced to resign after a mob of ‘students’ and BNP ‘activists’ stormed her office. As per a report in Bangladesh’s Prothomalo, on the 29th of August afternoon, students and outsiders besieged her office and held her captive for several hours. The mob also exploited her vulnerable state and eventually forced her to resign. The images of her helpless state have gone viral on social media platforms, sparking massive outrage. Incidentally, many of her old students expressed outrage on Facebook stating that ‘the student-friendly’ teacher didn’t deserve the humiliation she was meted out by the extremists.

As per the report, Shukla Rani Halder is an officer of the 14th BCS education cadre. She became the principal of Bakerganj Government College in mid-2022. Previously, she served as an English professor at Government Brojomohun (BM) College in Barishal.

According to the Prothomalo report, eyewitnesses said the protest began around 10:00 am on 29th August. The protesters included more outsiders than ‘students’ and they were led by the son of a local BNP leader, who is a student at the college.

Most of the protesters were identified as BNP ‘activists’. According to the report, they forced the Hindu principal to resign from her post by accusing her on flimsy grounds. They accused Principal Halder of financial corruption, irregular attendance, and other misconduct.

After storming her office, by 2:00 pm, the mob forced, Shukla Rani Halder to write “I resign” on a blank sheet of paper. Subsequently, she was compelled to sign and stamp the paper.

In a statement to Prothom Alo, principal Shukla Rani Halder said, “Some of the students I taught have insulted me deeply. However, there were more outsiders than students involved. Unable to calm them down, I had no choice but to write my resignation. Now, the entire matter will be decided by the higher authorities in the education ministry.”

Regarding the allegations against her, she added, “There is no concrete evidence for any of the charges. There is infighting among the teachers, and one faction has used students and outsiders against me.”

Interim government faces massive backlash for persecution of religious minorities

Lashing out at the Interim government, Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League shared reports of en-mass forced resignations of minority teachers and described it as a “wholesale purge of teachers from #minority communities”.

Highlighting the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh and Mohammad Yunus’ abject failure, Tasleema Nasreen wrote, “In Bangladesh, teachers are forced to resign. Journos, ministers, officials of the former govt are getting killed, harassed, imprisoned. GenZ burned down industries of Ahmadi Muslims. Mazars & dargahs of Sufi Muslims are demolished by Islamic terrorists. Yunus says nothing against it.”

It is pertinent to note that earlier OpIndia reported how Muslim students have forced as many as 60 Hindu teachers, professors, and government officials to resign from their positions. Additionally, OpIndia also pointed out how a controversial student body in Bangladesh dubbed ‘Odhikar Sochetan Shikharti Samaj’ (Rights awareness student society) released a list of 100 teachers and accused them of being ‘anti-hijab.’ The comprehensive list featured educators from all prominent institutions in the Islamic Republic, including the University of Dhaka.

OpIndia analysed the names of 100 teachers who were labelled ‘anti-hijab’ by the ‘Odhikar Sochetan Shikharti Samaj’ and found out that at least 21 of them were Hindus while 5 of them were Christians.

Apart from educational institutions, the Islamists and Interim government have led a brutal crackdown on Hindu journalists and those journalists who are considered close to Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) urged the interim government to “halt the purging of journalists affiliated with the former government” and to immediately release them.

On 29th August alone, at least 25 journalists were charged with crimes against humanity for the death of a protester in July. Many of them include Hindu journalists. Additionally, since the fall of the Awami League government, at least 268 cases have been filed against 1.94 lakh people, mostly targeting Awami League leaders and activists including party president Sheikh Hasina and those who had been reporting on religious persecution of Hindus and other religious minorities. Many journalists and leaders have also been killed since 5th August.

On 5th August, Bangladesh descended into chaos after a successful coup ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, forcing her to flee the country. In the aftermath, Islamists took advantage of the situation to carry out violent attacks on the Hindu community.

“Our work will not stop based on the comments of people”: Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tejashwi Yadav calling him “Chinese version of Yogi”

0

Responding to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav’s statement against him, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said “Our work will not stop based on the comments of people. Our work is to keep going forward.”

Earlier, hitting out at Himanta Biswa Sarma over the decision to end the 2-hour break for Jumma prayers in Assam assembly, Tejashwi had Accused the CM of seeking “cheap popularity” to stay in the news.

“Assam Chief Minister (Himanta Biswa Sarma) wants cheap popularity and wants to remain in the news… (UP CM) Yogi Adityanath is using bulldozers, and he (Assam CM) is stopping namaz, the country belongs to everyone, there should be peace, but these people are only spreading hatred,” Tejashwi Yadav told ANI.

The former Bihar Deputy CM also attacked CM Himanta on Friday also, and called him “Chinese version of Yogi” in a veiled reference to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

“The Chief Minister of Assam deliberately keeps doing acts to harass Muslims, in an attempt to gain cheap popularity and become the “Chinese version of Yogi”.

The people of BJP have made Muslim brothers a soft target to spread hatred, attract the attention of Modi-Shah and polarize the society,” Yadav stated.

“People of all religions, except RSS, have a hand in the independence of the country. Our Muslim brothers have made sacrifices in getting the country freedom and as long as we are here, no one can harm them,” he added.

RJD MP Manoj Jha amid the ongoing war of words backed Tejashwi and said, “What Tejashwi Yadav said is something that people say daily. When we say that something is “Chinese maal”, it means it is not durable…He said it in the context of dog-whistle politics, the politics of polarisation. As far as the dignity of words is concerned, where do you place ‘bhains’, ‘mangalsutra’ and ‘mujra’?”

The RJD leader’s comments were met by criticism from the BJP with party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla saying,”Tejashwi Yadav said that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is the ‘Chinese version’. just because he was born in Assam. Has Sam Pitroda’s spirit entered Tejashwi Yadav?… It is the character of the INDI alliance to not respect the Constitution and insult every person.”

Ghaziabad: Hindu man accuses one Faisal Khan of brainwashing his wife and attempting to convert her to Islam – What the FIR says

On 23rd August, an FIR was registered in Kavi Nagar police station of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, in which a 55-year-old man named Sushil Kumar Sharma accused one Faisal Khan, a colleague of his wife, of brainwashing her and attempting to convert her to Islam. In his complaint, Sharma said that Khan manipulated her through brainwashing and coercive tactics. He described a series of events that suggested a deliberate effort to distance the victim from her family and influence her belief system. OpIndia accessed copy of the FIR. Here is what Sharma said in his complaint.

Allegations of sudden disappearances and distressed state

Sharma said that his 48-year-old wife has been working as a teacher at Santanary Public School located in Shastri Nagar for 13 years. She suddenly started displaying unusual behaviour after she started interacting with Faisal Khan, a computer teacher at her school. According to Sharma, on 20th November 2023, his wife disappeared from home but was found in Govindpuran, Hapur road. The place where she was found was close to Faisal’s residence. Again, on 28th January 2024, she disappeared and was found in a distressed and disoriented state. This time, she was found near Dudeshwar Nath Temple in Ghaziabad.

Accusations against Faisal Khan

Sharma alleged that Faisal was involved in his wife’s disappearances and had manipulated her into applying for a job at Rajkot, Gujarat without her family’s knowledge. Despite her being already employed at the Santanary Public School, Faisal allegedly arranged for her to work at a school in Rajkot at a better salary raising suspicion about his intentions. Sharma said he was unaware that his wife applied for a job.

Disturbing findings and Faisal Khan’s arrest

Sharma noted in his complaint that he filed a police report in the matter and Faisal was brought in on 14th February 2024 from his workplace. Sharma pointed out that police failed to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and instead relied on Faisal’s statement. The police got a settlement between the parties and in the settlement document, Faisal admitted to arranging a job for Sharma’s wife without her husband’s knowledge. Sharma further said that Faisal’s involvement in his wife’s life did not end there. Despite the settlement, Faisal continued to maintain contact with his wife.

Strange behaviour and suspicious documents

Sharma added in his complaint that his wife’s behaviour continued to worsen post-settlement. She stopped communications with her own and Sharma’s family. She stopped going to markets and temples and even abandoned wearing customary bindi and bangles. He further informed police that his children saw their mother in an Islamic prayer position and they also discovered handwritten slips in Arabic transliterated in Hindi in her possession.

Furthermore, Sharma also found a phone in his wife’s possession registered in Faisal’s name through and she was keeping in touch with him. When Sharma checked the phone, he discovered several Arabic-transliterated documents, cemetery photos, and suspicious land images. He also noted that his wife had been searching extensively about the Arabic language and prayers on Google. A new Gmail account in his wife’s name was also set up by Faisal, Sharma said.

Threatening letters and fear of attack

In his complaint, Sharma said that he had received two letters with derogatory remarks about his wife urging him to throw her out of the house. One letter was received on 8th December 2023 and the second letter on 6th August 2024. The letter contained false accusations against his wife. He expressed fear over receiving such letters and told police that his family might get attacked and they have been staying indoors and conducting their work from home.

Allegations of brainwashing and conversion attempt

Sharma said that Faisal and his accomplices attempted to brainwash his wife and convert her to Islam. He alleged that Faisal’s objective was to ruin her family rather than take her with him. He added that his wife’s condition demerited to the extent that she now resembles a mental patient and was undergoing treatment. He asserted that Faisal’s actions were aimed at destroying her mental health.

He added that his wife once enjoyed a stable and happy life but now she was manipulated and pushed on a dark path. The sudden change in her behaviour and repeated instances of distress signals to him that her life and his family’s peace were at risk.

‘She is a radical left Marxist, will destroy our country’: 5 times Donald Trump hammered Kamala Harris during interview with Fox News

Ahead of the US Presidential elections, Republican nominee Donald Trump tore into his rival and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

During an interview with Fox News, aired in two parts on Saturday (31st August) and Sunday (1st September), Trump spoke to journalist Mark R Levin about the threats posed to the United States if Kamala Harris is elected the President.

“She’s a radical left Marxist. And that’s what she is. And she’ll destroy our country,” he was heard saying.

Donald Trump questioned the leadership skills of the Democrat Presidential nominee and exposed her nefarious designs.

“She’s (Kamala) not that much of a leader, but the one thing she is, is radical left. And she’s rated much further left than Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders was unelectable and she’s much worse than him. She’s real. She’s really, she really believes in all this stuff. Defund the police,” he emphasised.

“She wants to defund the police. For years, she said, defund the police. Now, all of a sudden, a little while ago, she goes, no, I don’t want to defund the police. She’s flip-flopped on every single thing that you could flip-flop, from border strength to defunding and defunding the police,” he pointed out.

During the interview, Donald Trump reiterated how Kamala Harris undermined democratic principles while securing a Presidential nomination from the Democratic party.

“Well, if you look at her campaign, because she campaigned for this office, that she seems to be getting now with no votes. And she’s getting the nomination with no votes. Think of that. And it’ll be between two people who win,” he added.

Donald Trump raised alarms about how the Presidency of Kamala Harris would negatively impact the United States and worsen the migrant crisis.

“She fought me for years on the wall. I built hundreds of miles of wall. But she was one of the people that fought me…We’ll have 100 million people in this country within four years if she gets selected,” he stated.

The former US President highlighted, “They come from prisons and jails. There’s a slight difference. And they come from mental institutions and insane asylums. And they come also as terrorists at a level that we’ve never seen before.”

“And they’re pouring into the country. We have millions of people coming in. But hundreds of thousands of those people are criminals from Venezuela… They come from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and from South America. And they’re destroying our country,” he added.

Donald Trump cautioned, “But migrant crime is turning out to be a disaster. Many, many people are killed and raped and mugged and everything else. These are tough people, but they let them out of jails”

The former US President hinted that the military would go kaput under the leadership of the woke top brass and Kamala Harris.

Trump stated, “Look, I defeated ISIS in four weeks. It was supposed to take five years. Our military is great, but they need the right leader. We have great people. And don’t worry about it going woke. Those people are not going woke ever. But the top people are woke.”

“The people that are trying to do the convincing are woke…I got you into no wars. You didn’t have any wars. But we’re going to have the big war, the war of all time, if something doesn’t happen.Because I don’t think we have a president right now,” he pointed out.

“Biden’s on vacation all the time. He’s depressed from being overthrown. He was overthrown. This was a coup,” he concluded.

Donald Trump also informed that he did not receive any note or call from Kamala Harris after an assassination bid that almost took his life.
