Sri Lanka: Government makes cremation of those who die of coronavirus compulsory, rejects objections by Muslim groups

In an official gazette issued by the Health Minister of Sri Lanka, the govt said that the corpse of the person who has died of or is suspected to have died of Chinese coronavirus will be cremated. The Minister said that the body shall be burned at a temperature of 800-1200 degree Celsius for a period of 45-60 minutes. The Sri Lankan government has rejected the objections of Muslim community who said that cremation violates the Islamic burial rites and is forbidden in Islam.

The Muslim leaders wanted the Sri Lankan government to follow the WHO guidelines which permit both, burial as well as cremation. However, as per the Director General of Health Services, Dr Anil Jasinghe, the ground water level of Sri Lanka is at a much higher level and burying the bodies pose a critical risk of spreading the virus by burying the bodies. He also emphasised that the risk will be increased as burying will take more time.

However, the Muslim community has accused the government of ‘callous disregard’ for religious rituals and the families’ wishes. Of 21-million population in Sri Lanka, Muslims represent 10% of the total population.

As of now over 200 people have tested positive for coronavirus on the island nation and the country is on an indefinite lockdown. On Sunday, a year after the Jihadis attacked the church on Easter in 2019, the country’s Roman Catholic Church said that it forgave the suicide bombers.

The Delhi police have initiated an inquiry against Head Constable Pankaj Khan for helping Madrassa members in southwest Delhi to cross the border and reach Mewat in Harayana during the nationwide lockdown. Khan had made the offer to help people ‘cross border’ on a social media site.

The inquiry has revealed that he helped some men from a madrasa in southwest Delhi to cross the border. Reportedly Pankaj Khan used his own vehicle ferry those people across the border in his vehicle, and showed his Police ID card at the border post to cross the state border.

Netizens joke about end of world as an earthquake hits Delhi-NCR amidst coronavirus lockdown

The internet was flooded with dark humour about doomsday prophecies and end of world jokes as a 3.5 magnitude earthquake hit the Delhi-NCR region on Sunday. The earthquake came at a time when the world is battling Chinese coronavirus and India has been on a lockdown for almost three weeks now. At such time, the earthquake, which thankfully did not do any harm, provided some much needed comic relief.

Just when you think things could only get better, mother nature decides to intervene. The earthquake comes at a time when everyone is supposed to be locked inside their homes as per government guidelines in a bid to contain the pandemic. And while we are at it, pardon the French.

The epicentre of the earthquake was NorthEast Delhi and while it scared the bejesus out of us, we’re just glad that it did not add more strain on the already stressed out authorities.

BookMyShow under fire from netizens for promoting Hinduphobes and those who wished death upon PM Modi

The Indian online ticketing platform BookMyShow has stoked a huge controversy on social media after it promoted ultra-left wing Hinduphobic trolls on its platform, who had once wished death for Prime Minister Modi.

On Sunday, the online ticketing platform shared a tweet promoting an event of ultra-left wing troll Harnidh Kaur, who goes by her social media handle @pedestrianpoet.

“The woman driving India’s digital revolution @PedestrianPoet is coming live on her Instagram today for a candid conversation with everyone!” tweeted BookMyShow by promoting her show.

However, netizens were enraged with the conduct of the BookMyShow as Kaur is widely known for her extreme Hinduphobic views. She had even once wished death for Prime Minister Modi.

Kaur had once attempted to mock Narendra Modi, who was then the Gujarat Chief Minister, and had claimed that the only similarity between Mahatma Gandhi and Modi would be if someone assassinates Modi. It is pertinent to note that Kaur writes for Shekhar Gupta’s ‘The Print’.

In the now-deleted tweet, Kaur had appended ‘seriously’ as if making it clear to her readers that she was not being facetious while wanting Narendra Modi assassinated.

As BookMyShow resorted to the mindless promotion of talk-show of Harnidh Kaur, social media users were unhappy about the constant practice of the ticketing platform of giving space to notorious Hinduphobic elements. This incident comes just a day after BookMyShow had promoted rabid Islamist – Hussain Haidry on its platform.

Netizens took to Twitter to demand accountability from the BookMyShow for promoting Pedestrianpoet. Social media users also uninstalled the ‘BookMyShow’ as a form of protest against the service provider for indulging in anti-Hindu behaviour.

Few social media users boycotted the app and asserted that they will never use the app ever in future.

Lately, there has been a trend across “liberal-secular” media to provide platforms to people who have hatred against the Hindus. It seems that the online commercial platforms have now joined the bandwagon to promote these Hinduphobic entities.

2 Fraudsters who duped people to the tune of ₹52 lacs by creating fake website of PM Cares Fund arrested

On Thursday, the Jharkhand police nabbed two fraudsters, namely, Noor Hassan and Mohammad Iftekhar who were accused of duping people to the tune of ₹52 lacs by urging them to donate to a fake website in the name of PM Cares Relief Fund.

The incident came to light after Sujit Kumar Singh, the manager of the Punjab National Bank (Big Bazaar Branch), and Amit Kumar, the manager of the Union Bank (Annada Chowk branch) separately lodged complaints against the account holders at the Sadar police station in Hazaribagh in Jharkhand. While Amit has alleged cyber fraud of ₹17 lacs, Sujit has claimed fraud of ₹34.8 lacs.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the account holders are real brothers who had fraudulently collected ₹52,58,442.26 through the fake website with the URL www.pmcarerelieffund.com. The branch manager of the Union Bank said that the name of the account holder was written as “PM Care” in the website while the original name of the account holder was Noor Hasan Gram Lache in the bank records.

The account (519102010958743) was opened online on December 26, 2019. The account had received ₹17 lacs deposits that have now been withdrawn. Another account (519102010958743) was opened in the Punjab National Bank by Mohammad Iftekhar Gram Lache on January 13, 2020, and this account was also listed as the account of ‘PM Cares’ on the fake website. Deposits to the tune of ₹34 lacs were made to this account for charity by people who mistook it for the original account of PM Cares Fund.

During the inquiry, one Parmeshwar Sau has been identified as the main leader. The cops raided the house of Sau and recovered several documents including bank passbooks, checkbooks, and ATM cards. The ring leader is currently on the run from the law enforcement authorities while the other two have been sent to JP Jail. The fake website has been taken offiline now.

Arrested Hassan and Ifthekar had claimed Parmeshwar Sau had opened their accounts in both the banks and kept their passbook with him. They revealed that Sau was behind this cyber fraud. The two accused were given a certain sum of money by the ring leader. The cops are of the view that the arrest of the Sau will shed light on the number of people who were involved in this cybercrime.

The outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic has given way to fraudsters to make quick money. Several cases of people creating UPI IDs with names similar to PM Cares were seen days after the PM CARES fund was opened by PM Modi. Earlier, Food and Drug Administration of Maharashtra raided a factory alleged of making fake hand sanitisers in Vakola area of Mumbai. As per reports, the ‘sanitizers’ didn’t have proper anti-bacterial particles which make the solution disinfectant. The factory had reportedly started operations 8 days back and had neither licence nor batch number. These were reportedly sold for Rs 105 to Rs 180 per piece.

Mamata Banerjee to extend the lockdown till April 40th? AajTak journo’s slip of tongue pulls at funny chords of netizens

Netizens on social media had fun at the expense of Mamata Banerjee and Aaj Tak after the media house aired a report erroneously claimed that the West Bengal Chief Minister has extended the lockdown in the state till April 40th. Scores of Twitter users could not stop themselves from expressing their amusement over the possibility that the TMC leader may have announced the lockdown extension till a non-existent date.

Chitra Tripathi, the journalist anchoring the AajTak show and who claimed that Mamata Banerjee has extended the lockdown till 40th of this month, acknowledged her inadvertent error and said that the death of 40 people from coronavirus in a single day in India yesterday was constantly gnawing at her, because of which she fallaciously said April 40 instead of April 30. However, this confession from Chitra did not stop the netizens from making fun at Mamata Banerjee’s expense.

Since Mamata Banerjee is known for her risible quirks and peculiar idiosyncrasies, netizens continued mocking the West Bengal Chief Minister for declaring lockdown extension till a date which does not exist not only in the month of April but in any month of the entire calendar year.

One of the popular Twitter users, who goes by the Twitter handle @Being_humor shared the AajTak report that claimed that the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had extended the lockdown till April 40th. The Twitter user said that only Mamata Banerjee was capable of doing this.

Taking potshots at Mamata Banerjee for allegedly declaring lockdown extension till April 40, Another user listed down events that would occur on April 40th. To underscore the impossibility of the hypothetical scenario, he sarcastically added that by April 40, Pakistan is going to win a world cup match against India, Katrina Kaif is going to win a national award for her acting and Salman Khan is going to get married.

Another user was not surprised with Mamata Banerjee’s alleged declaration of lockdown till April 40th. He said it is no wonder that if it West Bengal of Mamata Banerjee, then April 40 may also be possible.

Still another Twitter user mockingly said that since Mamata Banerjee has announced the lockdown till April 40th, everything will be sorted by April 42nd. Responding to a cautionary tweet about the deaths caused by coronavirus in America by the AajTak anchor, Chitra Tripathi, who in her report had declared Mamata Banerjee’s lockdown extension date as April 40th, the user said Indians had nothing to fret over as Mamata Banerjee had announced the lockdown till 40th and by 42nd, all the problems will vanish.

Following a video conferencing meeting with PM Modi yesterday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is drawing flak for her loose implementation of restrictions in the state, announced that the extension of the lockdown till April 30, in view of the rising threat from the coronavirus that is steadily gaining foothold in India.

Coronavirus scare: Villagers near Aligarh panic after 2 Bikers throw five ₹100 currency notes on the road after spitting on them

On Sunday, two bike-borne miscreants dumped five currency notes of ₹100 near the village of Bijhera in Tehsil Iglas in Aligarh, after they reportedly spit on them. The incident had triggered a state of panic among the villagers who dubbed their action as a deliberate attempt to spread the Wuhan Coronavirus infection.

A young woman who was working in the field at the time of the event is the primary eye witness in the case. According to the villagers, the miscreants had covered their faces with cloths who stopped on the road, spat on the notes and threw them on the ground before leaving the spot. Soon the news spread in the village and the villagers gathered at the spot. The cops were called in to investigate the matter. The fear of contracting Coronavirus infection was such that none dared to touch the currency notes. According to Kotwal Ramsiya Maurya, the notes were seized and the villagers were assured of stringent action against the accused.

In a similar incident on Thursday, two unattended currency notes of ₹500 had created a sense of panic among the residents in Paper Mill Colony in Lucknow. The locals insisted that the notes were kept on the road to deliberately transmit the Wuhan Coronavirus infection. The cops were called in and a doctor was also briefed about the situation. The notes were kept separately for 24 hours. While ensuring social distancing, the residents of the colony engaged in serious discussion beyond midnight about how currency notes were used to spread coronavirus.

The fear of people about the transmission of Coronavirus through banknotes well be grounded on certain events in the recent past. Earlier, the Nashik police had taken to Twitter to inform that a Muslim man, whose video of licking and wiping nose with a bunch of currency notes and calling Coronavirus a punishment by Allah was doing rounds on social media, was in the police custody. The Muslim man in the video used few 500 denominations notes to wipe his nose and mouth as he looked into the camera and said, “There is no cure for a disease like Corona because it is the punishment of Allah, for you people.”

Kangana Ranaut’s sister comes up with innovative idea to save resources during the Coronavirus crisis, suggests dismissing 2024 General Elections

Sister of Bollywood Superstar Kangana Ranaut, Rangoli Chandel, has come up with an innovative idea to save resources that could be spent more fruitfully in other pursuits in the wake of the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic. She suggested that the lakhs and lakhs of crores of rupees that are spent on conducting elections could be saved by dismissing the 2024 General Elections and allowing Narendra Modi to continue serving the country as its Prime Minister.

Rangoli Chandel said that it was unnecessary to spend such vast sums of money on the elections since the outcome of the elections is already known to people. She said that “unusual times demand unusual resolutions”.

Rangoli Chandel calls for dismissing 2024 General Elections

Rabgoli Chandel said, “We are going to face huge economy crisis, I am sure Modi ji will revive the economy in a year or two but we must remember we spend lakhs n lakhs of crores on elections we as a nation must dismiss 24 general elections and let Modi ji lead us for next term also (sic)”. She added, “Unnecessarily we will waste huge resources and result we all anyway know but unusual times demand unusual resolutions , hope our nation comes together to take such a revolutionary step …. Jai Hind (sic)”.

While the suggestions made by Rangoli Chandel may seem excessive to some, at least one other country has already gone ahead with such an initiative in the wake of the Wuhan Coronavirus pandemic. The Hungarian Parliament passed an emergency bill in March that ceded sole authority to Prime Minister Viktor Orban for an indefinite length of time. All by-elections or referendums have been suspended Viktor Orban will be able to bypass the Parliament when making decisions.
