Twitter forces user to delete tweet highlighting Hindu victims of Godhra massacre, days after it refused to block fake news

Censorship on Twitter has been a matter of huge concern in recent times. The platform has been accused of engaging in politically motivated censorship in order to censor political opinions it does not agree with. Under such circumstances, users have accused the platform of deliberately censoring posts that highlight the Hindu victims of the Godhra Massacre.

A user said that her account was locked for a period of time for posting a photograph of the Godhra Massacre with the caption ‘Never Forget’. The user was asked by Twitter to delete the tweet in order to regain access to her account or she could appeal against the action.

However, the user learnt that her tweet had already been removed without her appeal being taken into consideration. Eventually, she decided to delete her tweet since it was already removed. Directing her comments at Twitter, the user said, “Are you seeking to change the course of history of events now? Did Sabarmati carnage never happen? You can erase my post, you cannot alter the damn fact!”

Another user who shared images that described the brutal murder of IB Constable Ankit Sharma during the Delhi riots had the images labeled as ‘sensitive information’.

Concerns regarding Twitter’s left-wing bias with regards to censorship has been a dominant concern for quite some time. While tweets highlighting the Hindu victims of Godhra massacre were forced to be deleted, the platform refused to block accounts and tweets that peddled incendiary fake news capable of inciting law and order unrest in the country during the farmer protests.

Delhi Court takes cognizance of offences under sedition, promoting enmity between groups against Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Saifi and others

A Delhi Court has taken cognizance of offences under sections 124A (sedition) and 153A (promoting enmity between groups) against 18 individuals accused in the Delhi Riots who were booked under UAPA. The accused include former JNU scholar Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and Khalid Saifi.

The Court took cognizance of additional offences on the basis of sanction received under section 196 of the CrPC, LiveLaw has reported. The order was passed by Additional Sessions Judge of the Karkardooma Court.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police had arrested Khalid Saifi, allegedly one of the key conspirators of the Delhi riots, in June last year. Khalid Saifi is believed to be the person who had facilitated the meeting between Umar Khalid and Tahir Hussain, accused in the murder of IB officer Ankit Sharma.

The three are accused of conspiring to unleash violence in Delhi to coincide with the official visit by then US President Donald Trump.

As Congress allies with rabid Islamist in Bengal, sympathetic journalists try to shift focus to Assam Congress

Ahead of the upcoming polls in West Bengal, the Congress party has joined hands with rabid Islamist forces in the State. With an eye to gain political mileage and strengthen its hold over the Muslim vote bank, it has allied with Pirzada Abbas Siddiqui’s Indian Secular Front (ISF). The Congress party yields have a strong influence in Muslim-dominated areas of Malda, Murshidabad, and North Dinajpur in North Bengal. And the addition of Abbas Siddiqui to the political alliance will help win over young Muslim voters in South Bengal.

This is despite the fact that Abbas Siddiqui has exhibited his radical Islamist views in the past. During the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus in the world, a video of Abbas Siddiqui shot on February 26 last year had gone viral on social media. He was seen addressing a large gathering of followers and praying to Allah to kill 50 crore Indians with the virus. Siddiqui’s incendiary rhetoric, fear-mongering and calls for ‘divine intervention’ for the death of Hindus have been conveniently ignored by the Congress party.

The decision triggered a social media backlash, with senior Congress leader Anand Sharma criticising the alliance.“Congress’ alliance with parties like ISF and other such forces militates against the core ideology of the party and Gandhian and Nehruvian secularism, which forms the soul of the party. These issues need to be approved by the CWC (Congress Working Committee),” Sharma said. He further added, “Congress cannot be selective in fighting communalists but must do so in all its manifestations, irrespective of religion and colour. The presence and endorsement West Bengal PCC President is painful and shameful, he must clarify.”

Congress sympathisers in the media divert public discourse to ‘Assam polls’

Amidst the social media backlash, journalists sympathetic to the Congress party took to social media to divert public attention from the party’s wrongdoings in West Bengal to its campaign in Assam. Journalist Rohini Singh tweeted, “Young leaders like Gaurav are campaigning hard for their party while some experienced, entitled leaders like Anand Sharma are busy attacking their own party in the midst of an election. Start contrast.”

While Rohini Singh desperately tried to sideline G23 rebel Congress leader Anand Sharma and promote Gaurav Gogoi, it must be pointed out that the latter, who is supposedly ‘not entitled’, is the son of the late Congress leader and former Assam CM Tarun Gogoi.

While hailing the supposed well-synchronised campaign of the grand old party, Rohini Singh said, “Out of all the states going into the election the Congress campaign in Assam seems to be it’s most well synchronised, focused one so far with all leaders working together smoothly. Too early to say how it would pan out given how formidable BJP is in the state.”

Congress loyalist Sanjukta Basu did not leave behind. She wrote, “Priyanka Gandhi is Assam, Rahul Gandhi in Tamil Nadu breaking internet, setting IT cells on fire.”

AAP Politician-turned-journalist Ashutosh wrote an article in Free Press Journal highlighting about Nehruvian ideals and how a BJP victory in both Assam and West Bengal will imply the end of it.

While Congress has been thriving on Muslim appeasement and has sided with Abbas Siddiqui, it is interesting to note that the party has refrained from allying with the Owaisi due to its ‘extreme rhetorics’.

Assam elections: Priyanka Gandhi wants to give taxpayers’ money to housewives for free, law to nullify CAA

On Tuesday, Congress scion Priyanka Gandhi announced that housewives (grihini) will be handed out free cash to the tune of ₹2000 each month, if the Congress party is voted back to power in Assam.

Priyanka Gandhi, who serves as the General Secretary of the Congress Committee in Uttar Pradesh, made the promise while addressing a rally in Tezpur in Assam. “We will provide Rs 2,000 per month to all the housewives as ‘grihini samman’,” the Congress leader assured ahead of upcoming State Legislative elections in Assam. The Congress party, which has lost ground in the State, is now trying to regain power by vowing to give taxpayers’ money to housewives for free.

Besides the ‘freebie’ to housewives, Priyanka Gandhi has also promised to bring in a law to nullify the effect of the Citizenship Amendment Act in Assam. She has assured voters of creating 5 lakh jobs, increasing the wage of female tea garden workers to ₹365 per day, and providing free electricity up to 200 units. The elections for the 126-member Assam Assembly will be conducted in three phases, starting from March 27. While the voting for Phase II and III will take place on April 1 and April 6 respectively, the results will be declared on May 2.

Rahul Gandhi promises to steal money from Gujarat tea traders

Earlier, Congress dynast Rahul Gandhi expressed his hate for Gujaratis and said that he will take money from Gujarat tea traders and give them to the tea garden workers in Assam. Letting his hate for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, both Gujaratis, spill on to the people of Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi claimed that Assam tea workers get paid Rs 167 per day wage while ‘traders in Gujarat’ get tea gardens.

He did not give any proof to back his claims. He ‘promised’ that should Congress come to power in Assam, the workers will get Rs 365 per day wage. “Where will the money come from? It will come from Gujarat’s traders”, he claimed. BJP leader and Union Textile Minister Smriti slammed Rahul Gandhi for his comments and said, “I want to challenge Rahul Gandhi to try Gujarat if he has guts. I also challenge him to contest polls from Gujarat. That will clear all his misconceptions.”

Brown Sahib’s colonial hangover: How Congressis are perpetually in awe of Gandhi siblings mingling with gareeb Indians

Under criticism for his comments on the North vs South divide, along with his gaffe demanding a fisheries ministry in India even though there already exists one, senior Congress leader and the younger of the Gandhi scions, Rahul Gandhi tried to deflect the attention by venturing into the sea.

Gandhi’s escapade into the sea off the Thangassery harbour in Kollam district and swam alongside the fishermen from Kerala was captured in a video that was released on the internet a short while later. And soon enough, Congress supporters and lackeys went head over heels in love with their leader for his ‘kindness’ to socialise with the local fishermen and his ‘bravery’ to jump into the sea.

A motley collection of neutral journalists, leftist social media influencers, Congress supporters and assorted propagandists could not stop themselves from expressing their admiration for Rahul Gandhi over the incident. They took to Twitter to fawn over the Wayanad MP’s ‘brave jump’ into the Arabian Sea, singing paeans to the Gandhi scion.

Journalist Sunetra Choudhary seemed incredibly awestruck with the video that she shared footage and asked her followers if they had watched it.

Vinod Kapri, a self-proclaimed journalist, lamented over the non-coverage of Rahul Gandhi’s event in Kerala. Attacking media over the lack of coverage, Kapri claimed that media would have referred to the person as a ‘superman’ or ‘waterman’ if it was someone other than Rahul Gandhi.

Similarly, others too shared the video footage and sang praises to their leader, seemingly for swimming in an open sea. Amidst this cacophony, the contentious remarks made by the Gandhi scion on North Indian and his gaffe of demanding fisheries ministries were brushed aside as the entire Congress ecosystem swung into action to go gaga over their leader’s actions.

Defending the spectacle, obsequious Congress supporters and leaders claimed that the entire affair was an off the cuff event. It is to be noted that popular Kerala-based vlogger, Sebin Cyriac, was also present on the occasion, and had shot the video that had gone viral on the internet. In the light of these details, it is anybody’s guess if the spectacle was spontaneous or staged.

Nonetheless, this did not discourage Congress supporters from expressing their enthusiasm over the event. Another set of servile supporters used a picture of drenched Rahul Gandhi to drool over his supposed ‘six-pack abs’. Though Gandhi was sporting a t-shirt in the picture, Congress leaders and supporters were too observant to declare that the Gandhi scion had abs. Sharing the picture, Congress leader Vijender Singh hailed Gandhi as a boxer and tweeted, “Abs of a boxer”.

Congress propagandist Gaurav Pandhi posted a tweet asking Rahul Gandhi to share tips with everyone on getting such ‘abs’.

A few days later, another opportunity presented itself, and Congress loyalists wasted no time in pouncing on it. A video of Rahul Gandhi doing push-ups during an interaction with students at a Tamil Nadu school was released on social media websites. And Congress leaders and sympathisers instantly grabbed the opportunity to go into raptures over their leader.

Gandhi was in a campaign blitz in Southern India, but his vision for the Southern states or the poll promises made by him were not something that Congress supporters seemed to be interested in. Instead, they were enthused by the Wayanad MP’s fitness levels. Shortly after Gandhi’s push-up video surfaced on the internet, Congress supporters started sharing #RahulPushUpChallenge, calling on people to share videos of themselves doing 10 regular push-ups and 1 one-handed push-up.

This excessive adulation is not just limited to Rahul Gandhi alone. Even his elder sibling, Priyanka Gandhi, is venerated and idolised to the same extent. Priyanka Gandhi was recently in Assam, canvassing for the upcoming Assembly polls and interacting with the local people. But what had the Congress functionaries and leaders in awe of the Gandhi scion was not the promises she made or assurances she gave. Instead, they were dazzled with her smile.

Congress supporters remain perpetually in awe of the Gandhi duo

For a long time now, Congress supporters, sympathisers and loyalists have been in awe of the Gandhi siblings. This veneration of the Gandhi duo stems from the lineage they belong to and the tremendous power they wield.

It is a fact that Gandhi siblings were raised in a privileged environment. They had all the resources at their disposal. The fact that their great grandfather, grandmother and father had served as the Prime Minister of the country and their family had the reins of India’s oldest political party even before India attained its independence only adds to the privilege and the entitlement enjoyed by the Gandhi scions.

However, the reverence to the Gandhi duo becomes particularly stark when the siblings are seen socialising with the gareeb (poor) Indians. When the Gandhi duo is seen commingling with the poor masses, the Congress supporters go into overdrive to lavish praises on the siblings, lauding them for supposedly shunning their innate privileges to interact with the poor and using epithets such as ‘down to earth’, ‘humble’, ‘people’s leaders’ and so on to describe them. It shows that despite more than 70 years of India’s independence, the colonial hangover of the Congress supporters continues unabated, manifested in their obsequious deference to the Gandhi siblings.

The poor Indian masses are used merely as propaganda prop by the Congress supporters to glorify their leader. For the Congress party, poor Indian masses is a vote bank that can be easily manipulated and used to defeat a formidable opponent. It is to this end, that Congress leaders and its supporters fall over themselves to use poor for their propaganda purposes.

In fact, for decades now, the poor and the grinding poverty they have to live in is exploited by the Congress party for their self-serving agenda. In the 1970s, Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of the country, made ‘Gareebi Hatao‘(Remove poverty) the theme and slogan of her election campaign. However, decades later, India still continues to be gareeb.

Even Rahul Gandhi attempted to resurrect the poverty issue to revive his political fortunes. In the run-up to the 2019 General elections, Gandhi blew away the cobwebs and echoed the same slogan with a promise to eliminate poverty with a Universal Basic Income scheme. Even after 40 years, Congress’s use of the same theme to solicit votes is a scathing indictment of how the gareeb Indians were reduced to being puppets by the Congress party in its bid to advance its political ambitions.

Additionally, while Congress supporters and sympathisers go gaga over their leaders mingling with the poor masses, they take strong objection when others socialise with the poor. On several occasions, they have dismissed PM Modi’s outreach programmes for the poor as publicity stunts, pulled off only to gain popularity among the masses. They, perhaps, fear that PM Modi, who has himself witnessed the days of dire poverty and who has risen through the ranks and was not born with a silver spoon like the Gandhi siblings, would forge a robust bond with the masses, rendering the Gandhi duo’s charm-offensives of poor futile.

Watch: SP chief Akhilesh Yadav lashes out at journalist when questioned about his party leader’s involvement in Hathras murder

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was caught off guard when a journalist questioned him about the involvement of his out-on-bail party leader Gaurav Sharma in the Hathras murder case today.

In a video clip, which has gone viral on social media, the piqued SP chief is heard lambasting at a journalist: “Bik gae ho tum (you have been sold)..Kya naam hai tumhare news channel ka (What is the name of your news channel),” Akhilesh Yadav is heard asking angrily to the journalist when he questioned him about the alleged involvement of his party leader in the case.

“Ab kyon chup gaye ho, haisiyat hain toh channel ka naam batao” (why are you hiding now, tell the name of your channel if you have the audacity), Akhilesh Yadav continues to scorn the journalist.

Akhilesh Yadav caught off gaurd

Actually, Akhilesh Yadav was trying to take potshots at the Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, in front of the media, for the Hathras murder incident. During his address, a journalist questioned him about Samajwadi Party leader Gaurav Songra alias Gaurav Sharma, the main accused named in the Hathras murder case. This irked the SP chief, who then took off at the journalist.

The Hathras murder case

Earlier we reported how the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to book all the four accused, including Samajwadi Party leader Gaurav Songra alias Gaurav Sharma, in the Anish Sharma murder case under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).

Samajwadi Party leader Gaurav Songra is one of the prime accused in the case. He was out-on-bail in the 2018 molestation case filed by the same girl whose father he shot dead on March 1 (Monday).

According to police, the murder was the fallout of a verbal spat on Monday between Gaurav’s wife and Anish’s daughters over the 2018 molestation case, after which Gaurav along with his associates approached the victim at his field and shot him dead.

Andhra Pradesh: BJP alleges evangelists built a Christian cross-shaped structure at Hindu holy site, police ‘clarifies’, leaves crucial question unanswered

A huge Christian Cross-shaped structure has been allegedly constructed by evangelists in Edlapadu, Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh, where footprints of Maa Sita once stood, the BJP has alleged. As per a tweet by BJP Andhra Pradesh co-incharge Sunil Deodhar, the huge structure was illegally constructed.

Sharing the picture of the alleged encroachment, BJP Andhra Pradesh national secretary Sunil Deodhar also wrote on Twitter: “See huge illegal Cross in Edlapadu, AP where once foot prints of #SitaMaa existed. Carving of Lord Narasimhama exists at back. In Guntur Dist Christian mafias have created havoc. @BJP4Andhra & @friendsofrss protested but administration tacitly supported. #Encroachment4ChristInAP”.

A report in Organiser says that Hindus consider this site holy and for centuries marriage rituals would take place here. However, slowly Christians came and started claiming that the hill belongs to Mary. The report also alleged that after Jaganmohan Reddy govt came to power, they even built a church there. While the BJP and RSS workers opposed, one of the top bureaucrats, also a Christian, allegedly extended support to the church. Eventually, Sita Maa’s footprints were destroyed and a huge cross was erected.

This area is said to have borne the footprint of goddess Sita and a carving of Lord Narasimha, which was destroyed.

BJP leaders have taken to Twitter to slam Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, under whose regime, it is alleged that Christian evangelism is carried out unabated in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh BJP leader Vishnu Vardhan Reddy accused ‘conversion mafias’ of illegally capturing a Hindu holy site at Edlapadu by erecting the Christian cross-shaped structure. One of the pictures shared by Vishnu Vardhan Reddy on his Twitter handle shows a cross being erected at the sacred spot while another image displays what looks like a carving of Lord Narasimha.

The evangelists have reportedly also build malls and have commercialised the entire area which is exactly adjacent to a National Highway.

Police clarifies, but leaves one question unanswered

The Guntur Rural Police took to Twitter to post a video of the sight to dispel the claims that a Christian cross-like structure has been build at a site holy for Hindus.

The police claimed that the Holy site for Hindus is on one peak, however, the cross has been constructed a peak opposite to the holy site.

However, what the Guntur police has not clarified so far is whether the Evangalists had the authority to construct a cross at the site. Several Twitter users too raised the question in response that presumably, that site belongs to the government. They questioned whether the evangelists had the permission to construct a Christian cross-like structure on that site and whether the government had granted permission. If the government had not granted permission, then the cross would still be illegally constructed.

Special Prosecutor in Delhi Riots case shows court a Newslaundry article that created a false narrative against the investigation

On the 2nd of March, a Delhi Court continued to hear the case of the ‘larger conspiracy’ hatched ahead of the Delhi riots. The case was heard by Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat. During the hearing, a startling revelation came to the fore. The Special Public Prosecutor named left-leaning portal NewsLaundry.com as an example of how a false narrative is being created against the state investigation.

During the hearing, Special Public Prosecutor cited a report by Left-leaning publication NewsLaundry to say that while the lawyer defending the accused Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita is talking about how the investigative agencies are allegedly ‘leaking’ information to the media, leading to a media trial, even the prosecutor is being subject to the same.

Saying this, SPP Amit Kumar reportedly pulled up a report by NewsLaundry on his phone. Showing it to the judge, Amit Kumar used it as an example of how a narrative was deliberately being created against the investigation into the Delhi Riots and how even the prosecution is being subjected to a media trial.

‘Accused facing media trial’, claims defence lawyer of Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita, Umar Khalid chimes in too

The hearing started with the lawyer represented accused Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita demanding that the supplementary chargesheet be made available to the accused by the prosecutor.

During the course of the hearing, Ajit S Pujari, the lawyer of the two accused said that the CCTV footage mentioned in the supplementary chargesheet has been reported by the media and thus, it is obvious that the media has already reviewed the supplementary chargesheet.

While mentioning a Times Now report, Pujari claimed that the sections of the supplementary charge sheet were leaked in the media. He blamed the investigating agency for revealing the details. He added that because of such leakages, the accused in the case have to undergo media trials that is against their rights. Umar Khalid, who appeared in person, said that he had to face discrimination in jail because of the leaked information on the chargesheet.

This statement was made by Pujari after the Special Public Prosecutor said that the demand by Pujari has no merit.

There were several other accused like Asif Iqbal Tanha, Khalid Saifi and others who appeared in person to tell the court that the media was projecting them negatively as ‘rioters’ (dangaai).

Khalid Saifi decided to borrow some lines from Bollywood and said that “I am unable to understand what are the charges against me. They say I was part of the protest. They are making serious allegations against me as being a terrorist. Showing Because my name is khan, I am a terrorist”. He also said that the police was going to the media before going to the court with evidence.

Further, in the context of media trials, the SPP said that it is not just the accused but even the prosecutors face media trials. It is in this context that SPP Amit Kumar had shared the article by Newslaundry.

Sourav Ganguly may attend PM Modi’s Brigade Ground rally in Kolkata on 7th March: Local media

Former captain of the Indian Cricket team, Sourav Ganguly, may attend Prime Minister’s rally at Brigade Ground in Kolkata on the 7th of March, according to reports in local media. He may join the party in the presence of the Prime Minister, News Time Bangla says.

Source: News Time/Facebook

The picture posted by News Times Bangla says, “Sourav Ganguly may be present at BJP’s Brigade meeting on March 7. He (may) join the party in the presence of the Prime Minister. Rumours suggest.”

There have been consistent rumours that the BCCI president may join the BJP, however, the legendary cricketer has so far decided to not venture into politics. The rumours have earned him great criticism and online outrage against him from quarters opposed to the BJP.

Sourav Ganguly is known to share a very cordial relationship with Jay Shah, son of Home Minister Amit Shah. Dona Ganguly, the cricketer’s wife who happens to be a well-known classical dancer, was seen performing at BJP Mahila Morcha’s Durga Puja in Kolkata.

Due to the political nature of the BCCI appointment, and the cordial relationship between Ganguly and senior leaders of the party, there are speculations that the popular former cricketer may BJP ahead of the 2021 Assembly Elections in West Bengal.

Trinamool Congress, on the other hand, has ‘advised’ the Dada of Indian cricket to not join politics. However, it remains to be seen whether the rumours have any material in them this time around or it is just another of the numerous occasions in the past when speculations were rife that the Prince of Kolkata would join the BJP.

Remember Agra kidnapping case where a girl was shrouded in Burqa? Here is why she planned the abduction herself

Days after a 17-year-old girl was kidnapped from the Taraganj Iske area in Dayalbagh in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh, the police had recovered the victim on Monday night, reported Jagran.

As per reports, the victim was abducted on February 23 (Tuesday) from Dayalbagh Hospital, where she had gone to buy medicines along with her aunt. The incident came to light on February 26 (Friday) after the CCTV footage of the abduction went viral on social media. In the video, the victim could be seen clad in a burqa and walking alongside the accused. The father of the victim had registered a complaint against one Mehtab Rana, who had abducted the victim on two previous two occasions in 2018.

An FIR (First Information Report) was thus lodged by the police and Mehtab’s wife and two sisters-in-law were arrested. When the cops could not find anything substantial after interrogating them, they followed another line of investigation. While scanning the CCTV footage, the police found that the victim and the accused took an auto from outside the Dayalbagh hospital.

Cops trace down the vehicles used in the alleged abduction

The auto had a painting on its outer wall, a distinct marker that helped the cops easily trace the 3-wheeler vehicle. On questioning the auto driver, he informed that he left the duo outside Bhagwan Talkies in Agra city. He added that the victim and the accused sat in a car parked outside the movie theatre and drove away. The police analyzed the CCTV footage and identified the car by matching it with the auto driver’s description. The cops then nabbed the car driver by the name of Neeraj who said that he had left the victim in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area.

Teen recovered from Delhi, wanted to prepare for NEET in the National Capital

On Monday (March 1) night, the police recovered the girl from a PG in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area. On being asked about the abduction, she claimed to have gone to Delhi to prepare for NEET (annual pan-India medical entrance) examination. The victim said that her family members had imposed several restrictions after she had fled the house with prime suspect Mehtab Rana. Even though she wanted to go to Delhi to study, her family did not agree with the proposal.

How was the alleged kidnapping executed?

The victim informed that she had moved to her aunt’s house in January 2020. Her cousin brother Namit, had introduced her to his friend Divyanshu Chauhan. On February 23, Divyanshu came to Agra from Gwalior along with car driver Neeraj. One of their acquaintances named Rinku brought the girl out of the Dayalbagh hospital and made her wear a burqa. Following that, they took an auto to Bhagwan Talkies, where Neeraj and Divyanshu were waiting for her. Rinku, Divyanshu, and the victim then drove to Tilak Nagar in Delhi in Neeraj’s car.

The police later found her in a PG in Tilak Nagar. When the cops tried to arrest Divyanshu, they found that he was already arrested in a separate cybercrime case by the Gwalior police. The victim had reiterated that she wanted to go to Delhi to prepare for her NEET exam. The cops are conducting raids at several places to apprehend the other accused involved in the ‘abduction’ case. Reportedly, the accused Rinku had gone to a pilgrimage with his wife. The police is now trying to trace him down.

The cops are trying to determine whether Mehtab Rana is connected with the other accused in any way. It has also come to light that the girl’s father had received a phone call, warning him about his daughter’s kidnapping. “Stop it if you can,” the caller threatened. The man on the phone identified himself as Mehtab Rana. After the girl went missing, the victim’s father therefore registered a complaint against Mehtab Rana.

Mehtab Rana had abducted the girl twice in 2018

It must be pointed out that Mehtab, the father of 6 children and a resident of Meerut, had earlier abducted the girl on 2 occasions. Earlier, SP Botro Rohan Pramod informed that Mehtab was a co-worker of the victim’s father at a hotel. The accused was living in the Taraganj Iske area, where the victim resided. He would frequently visit her house and thus managed to trap the girl. In 2018, he had taken the girl to his house in Meerut. When the case was lodged, the police had arrested Mehtab’s brother.

It must be mentioned that a case was then registered under relevant sections of the POSCO act against Mehtab on the basis of the victim’s statement. A case was also lodged against his two in-laws for their involvement in the crime. Mehtab’s relative’s relatives not only facilitated the abduction but also provided him with a hideout to escape the cops.

Fearing police action, the family members of the accused had handed over the girl to the police. However, after a span of a few months, the girl was kidnapped yet again by Mehtab. The police had then swung into action and rescued the victim. The cops could not arrest the accused as he had got a stay order from the court. The girl’s family had earlier dubbed the incident as a case of ‘love jihad’ and has demanded action against others who are involved in the crime.
