TMC MP Mahua Moitra rakes up sexual harassment allegations against ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi

On Monday, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party MP Mahua Moitra raked up controversy yet again in the Parliament by raking up the sexual harassment allegations against former Chief Justice of India (CJI) and current Rajya Sabha MP Ranjan Gogoi.

During her speech in the Lok Sabha during the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, she hit out at the Judiciary for supposedly ‘failing’ India’s democratic pillars. “India’s tragedy today is not that her government has failed her, but that her other democratic pillars, the media and the judiciary have failed her. The sacred cow that was the judiciary is no longer sacred,” she claimed.

“It stopped being sacred the day a sitting chief justice of this country was accused of sexual harassment, presided over his own trial, cleared himself and then proceeded to accept a nomination to the Upper House in three months of retirement complete with Z-plus security cover…The judiciary stopped being sacred when it squandered the opportunity to guard the founding principles of the Constitution.,” Mahua Moitra alleged.

After Moitra made the contentious remarks, the BJP opposed her speech reiterating that a person holding a high authority cannot be discussed with the prior approval of the Speaker. The Chair, held by RSP member NK Premachandran, noted that the TMC MP’s comments would be expunged if they are found to be objectionable. He allowed her to continue the speech but asked her to not make further references to ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi.

BJP lashes out at Mahua Moitra, pulls breach of privilege motion

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi informed, “Raising the issue of Ram Mandir judgment & bringing the then CJI and other things, it’s a serious matter and we’re thinking of taking appropriate measure.”

It must be mentioned that Article 121 of the Indian Constitution states that no High Court or Supreme Court judge, who discharged their duties, cannot be discussed in the Parliament. Besides, Rules and Procedures 352(5) of the Parliament also state that the House cannot discuss the conduct of those sitting in constitutional positions. The government sources have informed that they are likely to move a breach of privilege motion against Mahua Moitra.

Sexual harassment allegations against ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi and SC clean chit

In May 2019, the in-house committee of the Supreme Court had found no substance in the allegations levelled against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi. A former female employee of the Supreme Court had levelled allegations of sexual molestation against the CJI, after which the in-house committee was formed to look into the allegations.

The committee, comprising of Justices S A Bobde, Indu Malhotra and Indira Banerjee, submitted its report on 5th May, which said that they found no substance in the allegations contained in the complained dated 19.4.2019 of a former employee of the Supreme Court of India, according to a press release issued by the apex court. The statement also noted that in accordance with a former case of Indira Jaishing vs Supreme Court of India, the report of the committee is not liable to be made public.

‘We will impose a heavy cost if you argue further’: SC dismisses petition seeking President’s rule in UP

0

A petition seeking the imposition of President’s rule in Uttar Pradesh under Article 356 of the Constitution was dismissed by a Bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde on Monday. The petition was filed by Advocate CR Jaya Sukin who was reprimanded by the Supreme Court for filing the petition without any basis.

“How many states have you studied crime records of? Show us what basis. There is no research about what you are saying. How is your fundamental right getting affected?”, CJI Bobde asked Adv Jaya Sukin.

UP is not being governed as per constitution: Petitioner

Adv Jayasukin contended in his petition that a situation has arisen in Uttar Pradesh wherein the government of Uttar Pradesh cannot be carried on in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution. The petition cited lawlessness in the state as the ground for imposition of President’s rule alleging extra-judicial and arbitrary killings. He referred to a number of incidents to make out his case including the Hathras case, alleged illegal detention of Dr. Kafeel Khan, alleged human rights violations during AMU violence and publishing pictures of anti-CAA protestor on banners. The petitioner also alleged that there were several shortcomings in the administration in the state.

We will impose heavy costs if you argue further: CJI

“Lot of extra-judicial killings, arbitrary killings taking place in UP. But till date, the Union government has given no advice”, Jayasukin contended. To this CJI Bobde replied, “Have you studied the crime records of other states?”. “Of the total number of crimes in India, more than 30% are in UP”, the petitioner replied. “How is your fundamental right affected”, asked the CJI. The petitioner replied, “I am an Indian citizen”. “We will impose heavy costs if you argue further. Dismissed”, the CJI cautioned the petitioner dismissing the petition.

How China uses extensive spying operations to assert its global dominance: From India to Afghanistan, the US and beyond

For years now, China has been stealthily carrying out espionage activities against rival countries and nations that it deems are consequential to its national security and global supremacy. A host of countries, including the United States, India, Australia and several other key nations have been among the list of countries against whom the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had been actively involved in carrying out spying activities.

However, China’s attempt to prise information out of other countries by commissioning spy operations is not a recent development. China had been fairly successful in hiding its nefarious activities up until the advent of the coronavirus outbreak, which was first emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, presumably from the wet markets that operated in the city. On occasions when it stood exposed, Beijing used coercion and persuasion to sweep under the rug the ugly realities of its extensive espionage activities.

But the pandemic shattered the ruse that China has been employing to conceal its sordid spying pursuits. Since its outbreak, coronavirus has rapidly spread across the globe, practically leaving no country untouched from its disastrous consequences. The relentless march of the coronavirus resulted in the grave loss of human lives, along with the severe effect on the economies of the countries it ravaged.

A groundswell of resentment developed against China for bequeathing the world with an uncontrollable contagion. The lack of transparency and China’s reticence in providing timely information about the infection only stoked the anger further. CCP’s strident criticism of nations who sought accountability from China for COVID-19 also served to amplify indignation against China.

For nations who were already aware of Beijing’s deceitful manoeuvres but were under duress to speak against it, the pandemic acted as a trigger to raise their voices against China and instilled them with confidence to employ resources to curb Beijing’s illicit activities. They were no longer obligated to kowtow to Beijing and its whims and fancies.

Several nations employed resources to unearth the unlawful and immoral activities carried out by the Chinese Communist Party that had so far gone unnoticed and were consciously ignored. As agencies across the world directed their energies towards China, the steadfast campaign brought to light the extent to which the CCP would go to protect its interests.

One particular aspect that the campaign shed light on was the CCP’s penchant to carry out spying operations against nations and individuals that are perceived to be acting against its interests. China has been steadily scaling up its espionage activities across the world, making it an intrinsic characteristic of the country’s foreign policy. Espionage activities are commissioned against friends and foes, often to determine if their interests align with that of China, and to secure access to confidential information that can be later used to one’s advantage.

According to a report published last year, the scale of the spy rings operated by China across the globe is unprecedented and is much larger than that of the cold war era. It also claimed that the Chinese spy rings include people from all professions—journalists, policymakers, political leaders, researches and many others.

China’s unconventional espionage activities are central to Chinese authoritarian leader Xi Jinping’s plan to dominate the world order. All countries carry out espionage activities to defend their interests, but China’s activities reveal that it is bent on ratcheting up its spy war. China is vigorously recruiting like never before, snooping, stealing secrets and research information on a scale that has never been witnessed before.

Indian journalist arrested for spying for China

An Indian journalist, namely Rajeev Sharma was arrested by a special cell of Delhi police on September 14 under the Official Secrets Act for spying for China. His Twitter account was restricted following his arrest. Sharma had reportedly worked with The Tribune, Free Press Journal, Sakaal, etc. and for left-wing publications like The Quint, DailyO, etc. He also ran a YouTube channel. Sharma was also reported to have written for the Global Times which is the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of China for many years.

Sharma was accused of passing sensitive information to Chinese intelligence. One Chinese lady and her Nepalese associate also arrested for paying him large amounts of money routed through shell companies. Chinese intelligence tasked the journalist for conveying sensitive information in lieu of large amounts of money. A large number of mobile phones, laptops, and other incriminating/sensitive material were also recovered.

Chinese espionage activities in Afghanistan

China’s snooping efforts are not just limited to nations such as Australia, India and the United States, but central Asian countries such as Afghanistan is also in the throes of Beijing’s espionage activities. In December 2020, Afghanistan arrested 10 Chinese citizens on the charges of espionage and operating a terror cell in the capital city of Kabul. Reports stated that detainees were believed to be linked to China’s spy agency, Ministry of State Security.

The alleged spies were reportedly gathering information about Al-Qaeda and many in Kabul security establishment believed that the operatives were working to ensnare astern Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) fighters in Afghanistan, an internationally recognised terrorist group that China accuses of fomenting separatism in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR).

A paper published on The Jamestown foundation attributed China’s spying activities in Afghanistan to its anxieties over the threats of terrorism, ideology and weapons flowing across the border into Xinjiang, the restive Chinese province and house to millions of Uyghur Muslim minorities. The CCP is accused of presiding over the persecution of Uyghur minorities, incarcerating them into detention centres, “re-educating” them, and enforcing them into forced labour, among other things.

UK expels Chinese spies who posed as journalists

In a report that was published just recently, the United Kingdom is said to have expelled three Chinese spies who had posed as journalists last year. The British Intelligence Agency MI5 concluded that the three worked for China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) but had been using the cover of working for the country’s press agencies.

The report said all three had claimed to work for three different Chinese media agencies, adding that they had all arrived in the country over the past 12 months.

The report of the expulsion of the three Chinese spies came after Ofcom on Thursday rescinded the licence of the Chinese state broadcaster CGTN to operate in the UK. The regulator claimed that the company did not have day-to-day control over the channel which was against the rules. The decision was, however, not linked to the three Chinese spies.

America calls Houston Chinese embassy a “hub of spying”

With the United States pulling out from Afghanistan, China sensed an opportunity to assume greater importance in the region by pitchforking itself in the talks between Kabul and the Taliban. China believes that by being a stakeholder in the peace agreement in Afghanistan, it would be in a better position to control the Islamic extremist forces that are invariably helping the Uyghurs to stage an insurrection against the Chinese regime.

China is also accused of infiltrating American Institutes and organisations through its spy network. In July 2020, as the coronavirus was galloping the United States, the Trump administration blamed Chinese citizens of stealing scientific research and told the country’s diplomats in Texas to leave. The former US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo had then called the Houston Chinese consulate as a ‘hub of espionage activities”.

Chinese Communist Party’s data leak shows how China infiltrated corporates, foreign consulates, including Indian, for spying

Shocking revelations have also come forth with the massive leak of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) records in December 2020. The CCP through a recruitment agency carried out a well-coordinated infiltration by getting its members employed in senior, specialist and advisory positions in consulates of countries such as India, UK, USA and Australia.

According to a report by The Australian, CCP infiltrated the consulates in Shanghai through a government-run recruitment agency. Through a well-coordinated effort, advisers were placed in western countries for over a decade.

Whistleblowers have extracted a list of 1.95 million CCP members from a Shanghai server. The list contains details such as names, the positions they held, birthdate and ethnicity. As per the investigation done by The Australian, at least 10 consulates in Shanghai employed CCP members as senior political and government affairs specialists, clerks, economic advisers and executive assistants.

Foreign experts believe that this could be a state-sponsored ‘spying ring’ wherein CCP members are employed in consulates, some for as many as 16 years. The leaked database also revealed that some of the CCP members were employed by corporates such as Boeing, Pfizer and AstraZeneca. Boeing, the American company, has defence contracts worth billions while Pfizer and AstraZeneca are leading pharmaceuticals which are developing the Chinese coronavirus vaccines. CCP members are also recruited at various Western universities as well.

China running a spy network inside top universities in US

A report published last month revealed the intimate relationship China shares with the US universities. Addition to its ‘Thousand Talents Plan’, China has successfully established a spy ring at top US universities, including Harvard and other Boston universities.

Reportedly, the Chinese military sends its spies disguised as students, who are specifically trained to steal intellectual property and research documents from the university labs and send it back to China.

The US security agencies became aware of such a Chinese spy network in US universities after the arrest of Lieber. Along with Lieber, two Chinese spies disguised as researchers were also charged as agents of a foreign government. The two Chinese spies had lied about their research work, wh used their access to smuggle research samples out of the country.

One spy was a lieutenant in the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, which she did not disclose when she obtained a visa to enter the United States. She is accused of passing information on research conducted at Boston University to China’s government. Another spy – Zheng was arrested at Boston’s Logan International Airport as he tried to leave the United States by smuggling 21 vials containing sensitive biological samples.

Australian MP being investigated for being a member of global Chinese spy ring

An Australian MP, Shaoquette Moselmane, is currently being investigated on charges of being a member of a global Chinese spy ring. The legislator was extremely pro-China and vocal about his inclination towards China. He had in June 2020 even applauded China for its response to tame the spread of the novel coronavirus, even though Beijing was accused of bungling up the initial response to COVID-19.

The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO), the country’s national security agency had raided the Labor Party leader and New South Wales upper house MP Shaoquett Moselmane for his alleged links with the Chinese government. He was subsequently suspended from the party for his alleged links to China.

Man can remarry without divorce, a woman can’t: HC cites Muslim personal law to declare lovers’ marriage illegal

0

While hearing a petition filed by a Muslim couple from Mewat district in Haryana seeking protection, the Punjab and Haryana High Court declared their marriage illegal citing the Muslim personal law. According to reports, the Muslim man and the woman were already married but they had remarried each other as the woman did not want to live with her husband. The woman told the High Court that her first marriage was against her will and that she wanted to live with her lover.

A Muslim man can have multiple wives without divorce, but a woman will need to divorce her husband first: HC

The couple was reportedly facing threats from their family members and therefore they moved the High Court seeking protection. The High Court, however, said that under the Muslim law a man can remarry without divorcing his first wife as he is allowed to have four wives but a Muslim woman cannot remarry without taking divorce from her husband. Justice Alka Sarina said that a Muslim woman needs to take divorce from her husband under the Muslim Marriage Act, 1939 to remarry.

The couple alleged that they were facing death threats from their families

The couple told the could they were facing death threats from their families and also eviction from the property. The counsel appearing for them contended before the court that the couple could remarry as per Muslim law. Responding to this the High Court said that only a Muslim man is allowed to marry a second wife without divorcing his first wife but a Muslim woman needs to divorce her husband if she wants to remarry.

Hearing their petitions, the court reportedly refused to issue orders for their safety citing them as a married couple. But the HC said that they can approach the local SP to seek protection as the police can provide protection to all individuals regardless of their marital status.

Red Fort violence: Deep Sidhu arrested by Delhi Police, was wanted for 26 January riots

0

The special cell of Delhi Police has finally arrested actor and Khalistani supporter Deep Sidhu for his role in instigating violence and the vandalisation at Red Fort on Republic Day during the farmers’ tractor rally. As per reports, Sidhu was traced by Delhi Police using advanced surveillance technology.

Times Group’s Raj Shekhar Jha informed that Sidhu was tracked down and arrested in an operation led by Delhi Police’s DCP Sanjeev Yadav. Sidhu was seen in the video footage of the Red Fort violence. He was absconding since then.

On February 3, Delhi Police announced a cash reward of Rs 1 Lakh each for information leading to the arrest of Deep Sidhu, Jugraj Singh, Gurjot Singh and Gurjant Singh. A cash reward of Rs 50,000 each for the arrest of Jajbir Singh, Buta Singh, Sukhdev Singh and Iqbal Singh was also announced.

Sidhu has been hiding since the day of the Red Fort violence and has been releasing social media videos to blame other ‘farmer leaders’ who have spoken against him. The Khalistani supporters had brutally attacked the security personnel and police officials stationed at Red Fort, they had disrespected India’s national flag by hoisting two other flags with Sikh symbols on the Red Fort. In a video, Khalistani rioters were seen pushing Delhi Police personnel from the top of a high wall, severely injuring hundreds of them.

Maharashtra: Where criticising ‘best CM’ leads to public humiliation and standing up for country invites Intelligence dept probe

Remember when the Chinese coronavirus pandemic was at its peak and active case load in Maharashtra was unhinged? And how Uddhav Thackeray government was hailed for handling the pandemic ‘very well’?

Tweets hailing Uddhav Thackeray

To put things in perspective, Out of 1,08,47,790 total cases in India, 20,46,287 are from Maharashtra. Maharashtra contributed nearly 20% coronavirus cases. Another ‘model state’ is Kerala which has contributed to nearly 10% cases and continues to contribute to over 50% active cases even today. But that is a matter for another discussion. Coming back to Maharashtra, out of 1,41,118 active cases in India, Maharashtra has 34,720 active cases. That is almost 25%. Out of total 1,55,195 deaths, Maharashtra accounts for 51,325 deaths. Nearly 1/3rd.

Let *that* sink in.

But, you see, he was the ‘best chief minister’ who has done a ‘wonderful job’.

And you know, criticising the ‘Best’ Chief Minister of India triggers his supporters so much that they will either tonsure your head or just bathe you with ink, make you wear a saree (if you are a male, because nothing more insulting than making a man wear a woman’s clothes, no?) and parade you.

You wont hear anyone cry fascism here. Fancy words like ‘speaking truth to power’ and ‘dissent’ are only legit if the power is BJP. For all non-BJP states, even murders are forgiven.

What what happens when celebrities stand up for the nation? No, not even criticise anyone or state or central government. Just simply stand up for the nation.

It invites veiled threats and probe by Intelligence department.

Powerful people nudge sportsmen to ‘exercise caution‘ while speaking about any other field. The same powerful person, who may never have been an athlete himself but heads various sports organisations, like Mumbai Cricket Association, Maharashtra Olympics Association and others. Sharad Pawar may have last played gully cricket in school but he is allowed to head various sport bodies. Alright, then.

As if such veiled threats were not enough, this is what the Maharashtra government has now done.

Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress led Maharashtra government has ordered intelligence department to probe why Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar spoke out and stood up for India when the global conspiracy to defame India emerged last week.

Congress even brought it up in the Parliament.

Their hate for PM Modi has blinded them so much that they would rather take action against those standing up for the country rather than stay united against 2-bit celebrities who move on to next endorsement deal after ‘lending their voice’ for causes they have zero idea about.

Greta Thunberg, the celebrity professional protestor, has maintained deafening silence over the groundwater depletion in Punjab and the stubble burning which poisons our lungs in Delhi. But, hey, the ‘environmental activist’ is bunking school every week for environment, so that is something, right?

At this point, one can only hope that none of these Bharat Ratnas who stood up for India are not paraded on street and humiliated by the supporters of ‘best CM’ just for urging Indians to stay united.

Meena Harris spreads fake news about Nodeep Kaur, here is how the woman’s statement debunks her lies

American author and niece of U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris, Meena Harris caused a controversy on Saturday, by tweeting unverified allegations about the Nodeep Kaur case. In her tweet, Meena Harris alleges that Nodeep Kaur has been sexually assaulted in police custody. This unverified claim went viral and was on repeat ad nauseum by others, including the actress Chitrangada Singh. Fortunately, this brutal and bizarre claim is not true.

In a statement on Saturday, the Sonepat Police, which holds Nodeep Kaur in custody, denied the allegations “being circulated on social media platforms about illegal detention and harassment”, and termed them an “afterthought”. Sonepat Police further claimed that at the police station, Nodeep Kaur was kept in the ladies’ waiting room “for the entire time and was accompanied by two female police personnel for the entire duration of her stay”.

However, the most crucial part of Sonepat Police’s statement was that Nodeep Kaur was taken to Civil Hospital for a general medical exam and a special medical exam specifically for sexual assault. But Nodeep Kaur herself gave a written statement refusing the special examination on the grounds that she hadn’t been a victim of sexual assualt. Sonepat Police said that Nodeep Kaur underwent a “special medical examination by a lady doctor for sexual assault where she herself gave a written statement… that she doesn’t want to be medically examined as she had not been assaulted”.

Furthermore, Nodeep Kaur made no allegations of sexual assault when she was presented in front of the Chief Judicial Magistrate. The Police said that, “she did not disclose/mention anything about any assault by police officials” to the Chief Judicial Magistrate, before whom she was presented prior to being taken to Karnal jail.

Nevertheless, it did not stop Meena Harris from spreading the unverified claim of sexual assault via tweet. Meena Harris’s disinformation spread like wildfire, with the tweet amassing almost 60 thousand likes and millions of impressions. Meena Harris has repeatedly utilized her platform to spread unsubstantiated claims and sometimes outright falsehoods. This time around however, she wasn’t alone in spreading unverifed claims.

Bollywood actress Chitrangda Singh quote tweeted an inflammatory headline from The Wire on Twitter which claimed that Nodeep Kaur has been sexually assaulted in police custody.

Source: Twitter

This claim, made by Nodeep’s lawyer, is incorrect in light of Sonepat Police’s statement. Nodeep’s lawyer claims that a medical examination of Nodeep after her arrest shows wounds on her private parts. But this turns out to be false because according to Nodeep’s own written statement, she did not consent to a special examination because she was not a victim of sexual assault.

Both Meena Harris and Chitrangda Singh have not rescinded their allegations and claims yet, despite the statement from Sonepat Police.

‘The self reliant budget has something to offer for everyone’, HM Amit Shah lauds the Union Budget

0

The Union Budget of India for 2021-2022 was presented by the Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman on 1 February 2021, as her second budget. Lauding the budget presented by the Finance Minister, Home Minister Amit Shah termed the second budget of Narendra Modi-led government’s second term as a guide to “self-reliant India”.

In an editorial piece in Hindi daily Jagran, the HM said that though bringing a customary budget amidst the pandemic was a major challenge, still, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented an all-inclusive budget under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi.

He wrote that before one evaluates the budget, the basic spirit of the union budget should be understood in two points. Firstly, despite stalled economic activity due to months of lockdown, it presents a picture of a strong India. Secondly, the budget shows the determination of the country which aspires to be self-reliant. The country has realized that any disaster can be turned into an opportunity if its leaders are far-sighted and determined.

Alongside ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas Sabka Vishwas’, the budget gives priority to poor, farmers and women

The Modi government has carried forward public welfare work without imposing any additional taxes on the citizens. The budget is a tutorial on economic policy-making and structural reforms and a resounding exemplification of Modi’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) plan.

HM Amit Shah wrote that this year’s budget lays emphasis on strengthening agricultural infrastructure and doubling the income of farmers. The budget manifests that the government is ensuring fixing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) at one and half times more than what the produce would cost the farmers. This showed the commitment of the Modi government towards the farmers of the country.

Modi government working in the interest of farmers

HM Amit Shah said the Prime Minister has been devoted to the welfare of farmers since day one and numerous efforts have been made to double their income.

The increase in procurement of wheat and pulses at MSP in the last year and procurement of paddy at MSP which has been doubled this year, benefiting 1.5 crore farmers of the country.

He furthered that earlier those farmers who had to face police atrocities while procuring urea are today benefitting for the central govt’s schem- Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN, under which benefits are directly transfered to the farmer’s bank accounts.

The government has made a provision of Rs 16.5 lakh crore in this year’s budget to provide easy loan to the farmers of the country. Also, Rs 10 thousand crores have been allocated for micro-irrigation projects. Efforts have been made to increase the rural infrastructure fund from Rs 30 to 40 thousand crores.

Moreover, in an effort to connect Indian farmers to the global market by which they can double their incomes, the central govt has promoted a pan-India electronic trading portal called eNAM, which facilitates a single-window solution to the farmers and stakeholders to disseminate the information about seeds, farm machinery, fertilisers, etc.

Many developed nations couldn’t handle the pandemic, as well as India under the leadership of PM Modi, did

India, under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, managed the coronavirus crisis in a far better manner compared to the other developing and some developed countries. During the pandemic, India has made a quantum leap in the health sector and the health infrastructure.

There has been a historic increase of 137 per cent, that is Rs 2.38 lakh crore in the health budget. Moreover, with an allocation of Rs 64,180 crore in the budget, services under the ‘Prime Minister Atma Nirbhar Swasthya Bharat Yojana’ would now reach almost 75 thousand villages.

In the budget Rs. 35,000 crore has been earmarked for the coronavirus vaccines. India is a leader in manufacturing and the production of COVID-19 vaccines. With the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family), Modi ji is honouring India on the global platform by delivering vaccines to all the countries around the globe.

2020-21 Budget has something to offer everyone, wrote Amit Shah

In addition, the budget has something for everyone and it will continue to facilitate PM Modi’s resolve to provide housing, toilets, LPG, electricity, clean water and food security to every citizen of India.

After delivering free cooking gas to eight crore women under Prime Minister Ujjwala Yojana, Govt aims to reach an additional one crore beneficiaries under the scheme. Moreover, Modi government’s decision to exempt senior citizens above the age of 75 years in the budget from filing tax returns is a symbol of the government’s humanitarian outlook.

Moreover the budget proposes to create five new ports and integrate the data of migrant laborers to benefit fisheries industry, so that they can avail one country-one ration card. In the interest of the middle class and to counter Coronavirus impact, RBI moratorium on home loan EMI has been extended by another year.

Modi government saddened by the negative politics of the opposition, opines HM Amit Shah

Over the past seven decades, a number of governments have come, but never before has a government been so committed to the welfare of the common people. Modi government has brought economic reforms enhancing India’s credibility on the global platform. The number of reforms introduced in the last six years has easily outnumbered reforms taken up by previous governments. India’s swift and continuous rise in global ranking of ‘ease of doing business’ bears testimony to this.

Today the country is ready to become an economic superpower. But even at this point, opposition party leaders do not refrain from spreading misinformation or doing petty politics. “This saddens me”, wrote the HM in the editorial piece for the Hindi Daily newspaper Jagran.

All the works that I mentioned above are going to bring about a better change in the life of the common man. Is all this possible when the country is financially weak? asked Shah.

Emphasis on economic reforms is the hallmark of the Modi government

The Home Minister furthered that post the COVID-19 pandemic, the global economy is in a reset mode and this budget will help our country to use this opportunity to emerge stronger in the global scenario and make it the fastest growing economy in the world.

He said India cannot become a leading country without strong infrastructure and Modi government has done comendable work in the field, taking concrete steps for the development of infrastructure. A sum of Rs 1.18 lakh crore has been allocated in the budget to the Ministry of Transport and Highways which will give new impetus to the expansion of highways. A special provision for road construction projects in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and Assam has also been earmarked, he said.

Special attention given to Railways

Special attention has been given to the development of railway and for this purpose, a record sum of 1.10 lakh crore has been allocated to the sector.

Moreover, capital expenditure has been increased by 34.5 percent to accelerate economic growth. It has increased to Rs 5.54 lakh crore from 4.21 lakh crore last year, said Shah.

Budget 2021-22 encourages start-ups, says Amit Shah

The government has encouraged start-ups by giving tax relief until March 31, 2022. Moreover, several steps have also been taken to strengthen the economy and the small and medium scale industries, employing millions of people.

Further, in its steps taken to boost economy, the govt has been facilitating the ease to obtain credit by improving the banking system. Also steps for settlement of economic disputes have been improvised. The result of these steps is that the foreign investments in India have increased rapidly. It has reached $ 24.6 billion in the last quarter, informed the Home Minister.

Budget of a self-reliant India

Terming the Budget 2021-22 a guide to “self-reliant India”, HM Amit Shah opined that the current union budget would pave the way for a self-reliant India. This budget is going to inspire every citizen belonging to whichever region or community in the country to take a leap forward, added Amit Shah.

Amidst call to boycott 2020 Beijing Winter Olympics, Canada says it would warn athletes against publicly criticising China

0

As China gears up to host the 2022 winter Olympics in Beijing in February next year, the call to boycott the winter games being hosted by China next year has been growing. Amidst all this, the Canadian Olympic organisers have said that they would warn its athletes to refrain from openly criticising China ahead of the winter games. The decision was taken due to concerns that the Communist Party’s critics could be prosecuted under the draconian national security law.

David Shoemaker, chief executive officer of the Canadian Olympic Committee, said that the athletes have been asked to not to comment at least until after the Games have taken place.

In an interview with the Globe and Mail, Shoemaker said: “There have been dissents in Honk Kong, who have been taken away and charged for saying thing contrary to the Communist Party of the Chinese Government’s policies. So we will talk to our athletes about the implications of what they say and of the topics that they choose to speak about.”

Expressing his disapproval over calls to boycott the Beijing Olympic winter games next February, the CEO of the Canadian Olympic Committee opined that the boycott is unlikely to effect the alleged persecution of China’s Uighur Muslims who have been facing a systemic campaign of detention and abuse under the Communist Government of China. He also said that instead, the boycott may have a negative impact, making things worse for the two Canadians- Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, detained in China.

By attending the Olympics the athletes would definitely be part of the “most spectacular sporting event in the world”, however, before the event the committee would spend a considerable amount of time counselling Olympians as to what they might consider not to comment on, at least until the games are over.

It is pertinent to note here that before taking up the post of the CEO of the Canadian Olympic Committee, David Shoemaker served as the CEO of the National Basketball Association (NBA) of China, which came in the line of fire by Chinese authorities after Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey’s October 2019 Tweet that voiced support for protests in Hong Kong.

Though he had deleted his Tweet almost instantly, it could not stop Chinese broadcasters from not airing NBA games, companies from cancelling NBS sponsorships or vendors from selling league merchandise. Chinese online giant Tencent, blocked streaming Houstan’s games for almost 15 months, only to resume in January this year.

This was an typical example of China’s practice of mixing sports and politics, owing to which the Canadian Olympic Committee CEO talks of being extra cautious.

According to reports, since the Houston Rockets’ incident, many human-right activists and parliamentarians have batted for the boycott of the 2022 winter games by the Canadian Olympic Committee, which they think would serve as a loud protest against the Chinese secessionist government which has overseen a dramatic erosion of civil liberties in Hong Kong, stepped up oppression and humiliation of Uyghur Muslims and the arbitrary detention of the two Canadian nationals, which was largely seen as an act of political-hostage taking.

However, Shoemaker dismissed the idea of boycott saying that it would not be fair to take away a lifetime opportunity from athletes. Moreover, he said that boycotting the winter games which is being hosted by China next year, might infuriate the Communist government who would surely perceive it as a great insult, and this may also hinder the chances of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor being released any time soon.

Additionally Shoemaker said that history has it that boycotting Olympics has never been effective. Such was the case in 1980, when Canada joined the US to boycott attending the summer Olympics in Moscow in protest against the Soviet invasion in Afghanistan, said the CEO, furthering that despite the boycott the Soviet union remained in Afghanistan for almost a decade even after that year.

Meanwhile, the family of the detained Canadian Michael Kovrig also opined that boycotting the winter game was no solution.

Some people belonging to Canada’s Uyghur community opined that participating in the games hosted by China would amount to betraying what the country stood for. Moreover, John Higginbotham, a Canadian diplomat who advocated the boycott was also of the opinion that Beijing’s recent actions “meet the test fully” for the boycott. “What more do we need? Public execution of the Michaels? asked the irked diplomat.

There have been growing calls for boycotting the Winter Olympics, which celebrated their one-year countdown last Thursday. Several Canadian MPs signed an open letter calling for a boycott last week and asking for the Games to be relocated from the Chinese capital.

Meanwhile, China has threatened of imposing sanction on those who back out from participating in the winter games. According to the editor-in-chief of the state-backed nationalist tabloid Global Times, China will respond to Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic boycotts with serious sanctions towards any countries that pull out.

Sharing a screenshot of an article in The Guardian website, headlined “MPs urge British Olympians to boycott 2022 Beijing Winter Games”,  Hu Xijin wrote on Twitter on Sunday: “Boycotting 2022 Beijing Winter Games, an unpopular idea, won’t receive wide support. IOC and athletes will both oppose it, and China will seriously sanction any country that follows such a call.”

Prominent American conservatives and right-wingers have begun to express their support for India and Prime Minister Modi in wake of the Greta Files leak. On Sunday, influential U.S. conservative Jack Posobiec tweeted a popular image of Prime Minister Modi which is extremely recognizable amongst the PM’s supporters. The image, with an in-image caption reads, “In reality they’re not after me, they’re after you. I’m just just in the way”.

The tweet seems to signal support for India amidst the current campaign that is underway, as the fallout from Greta Leaks continues to spread throughout the Internet.

Jack Posobiec is a television news host for the cable news station, One America News Network, operating in USA. He’s an extremely influential conservative on the social media website Twitter, with over 1.1 million followers to his name. In 2016, he was the Special Projects Director for Citizens for Trump, the largest Trump grassroots organization in the United States.

Mr. Posobiec has also questioned the involvement of the Canadian Government in the Farmer Protests, including Jagmeet Singh, a Canadian Member of Parliament who has been linked with Khalistani outfits.

Credible allegations exist against Jagmeet Singh as being the person behind Rihanna’s Farmers Protest tweet. Mr. Posobiec also equated the Khalistan Movement to the Quebec Nationalist Movement, and exclaimed that if Canada can meddle in India’s internal politics, India can do the same thing vice versa. Mr. Posobiec was not the only American conservative who came out in support of India on social media.

On 4th February 2021, three days before Mr. Posobiec’s tweet, another noteworthy American conservative, Amy Mek signaled support for India. On Twitter, Amy Mek called upon her followers in India to help ‘expose the left’s coordinated attack’ on India and on the farm bills.

Amy Mek tweeted for India again, asking her fellow Americans to ‘pay attention to the coordinated global attack on India by the left.’ Amy Mek utilized her platform of more than 2,20,000 followers on Twitter to call for unity between Indians and Americans in order to fight the same dark forces of the Globalist Left.

Another prominent American conservative journalist Mike Cernovich, also came out in support for India on Twitter. Mr. Cernovich tweeted that one of the smartest person he knows has told him that ‘India is the future.’ Mr. Cernovich’s tweet was adjudged in the same context as Jack Posobiec and Amy Mek. Mr. Mike Cernovich is a highly influential conservative on the social media website Twitter, where he has over 6,60,000 followers.

Famous American YouTube personality and right-wing libertarian gamer, The Quartering, has posted a video covering the Greta Leaks on YouTube. The Quartering, who has accumulated over one million subscribers on YouTube, has received over 2 lakh views on his video since its upload. In his video, the Quartering goes through the Greta leaks, and heavily criticized the fake, inorganic activism of Greta Thunberg, Rihanna and others. The comments on this video are overwhelmingly pro-India, with seemingly most of them criticizing Greta and her toolkit brand of activism.

Across social media, in anti-left circles all around the world, the Nationalist rhetoric from PM Modi, has drawn praise. PM Modi’s perception is of a nationalist leader, who is leading a nation against Globalist institutions attempting to interfere with or influence the political system in India. Ever since the defeat of Donald Trump, the resignation of Shinzo Abe, the multiple scandals surrounding Jair Bolsanaro; and the shoddy handling of the Coronavirus Lockdown in U.K. by Boris Johnson, PM Modi remains the only legitimately elected, anti-Globalist leader.

Thus, those not fond of the Globalist Left from all across the world look towards India and PM Modi, as one of the only major democracies with a strong nationalist leader, to lead the fight against the Globalist Left and its neoliberal ideology.

India’s message of condemnation towards foreign actors attempting to influence her national discourse was met with praise from Western conservatives. The toolkit expose of Greta, which brought the story to mainstream attention, was the hook which lured a lot of Westerners to this story.

However, the real story is that India is effectively pushing back against these inorganic, foreign attempts to interfere with Indian affairs. Thus, at a time when India is being subjected to a negative international campaign, it has also drawn praise from unexpected quarters.
