Amidst call to boycott 2020 Beijing Winter Olympics, Canada says it would warn athletes against publicly criticising China

0

As China gears up to host the 2022 winter Olympics in Beijing in February next year, the call to boycott the winter games being hosted by China next year has been growing. Amidst all this, the Canadian Olympic organisers have said that they would warn its athletes to refrain from openly criticising China ahead of the winter games. The decision was taken due to concerns that the Communist Party’s critics could be prosecuted under the draconian national security law.

David Shoemaker, chief executive officer of the Canadian Olympic Committee, said that the athletes have been asked to not to comment at least until after the Games have taken place.

In an interview with the Globe and Mail, Shoemaker said: “There have been dissents in Honk Kong, who have been taken away and charged for saying thing contrary to the Communist Party of the Chinese Government’s policies. So we will talk to our athletes about the implications of what they say and of the topics that they choose to speak about.”

Expressing his disapproval over calls to boycott the Beijing Olympic winter games next February, the CEO of the Canadian Olympic Committee opined that the boycott is unlikely to effect the alleged persecution of China’s Uighur Muslims who have been facing a systemic campaign of detention and abuse under the Communist Government of China. He also said that instead, the boycott may have a negative impact, making things worse for the two Canadians- Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, detained in China.

By attending the Olympics the athletes would definitely be part of the “most spectacular sporting event in the world”, however, before the event the committee would spend a considerable amount of time counselling Olympians as to what they might consider not to comment on, at least until the games are over.

It is pertinent to note here that before taking up the post of the CEO of the Canadian Olympic Committee, David Shoemaker served as the CEO of the National Basketball Association (NBA) of China, which came in the line of fire by Chinese authorities after Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey’s October 2019 Tweet that voiced support for protests in Hong Kong.

Though he had deleted his Tweet almost instantly, it could not stop Chinese broadcasters from not airing NBA games, companies from cancelling NBS sponsorships or vendors from selling league merchandise. Chinese online giant Tencent, blocked streaming Houstan’s games for almost 15 months, only to resume in January this year.

This was an typical example of China’s practice of mixing sports and politics, owing to which the Canadian Olympic Committee CEO talks of being extra cautious.

According to reports, since the Houston Rockets’ incident, many human-right activists and parliamentarians have batted for the boycott of the 2022 winter games by the Canadian Olympic Committee, which they think would serve as a loud protest against the Chinese secessionist government which has overseen a dramatic erosion of civil liberties in Hong Kong, stepped up oppression and humiliation of Uyghur Muslims and the arbitrary detention of the two Canadian nationals, which was largely seen as an act of political-hostage taking.

However, Shoemaker dismissed the idea of boycott saying that it would not be fair to take away a lifetime opportunity from athletes. Moreover, he said that boycotting the winter games which is being hosted by China next year, might infuriate the Communist government who would surely perceive it as a great insult, and this may also hinder the chances of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor being released any time soon.

Additionally Shoemaker said that history has it that boycotting Olympics has never been effective. Such was the case in 1980, when Canada joined the US to boycott attending the summer Olympics in Moscow in protest against the Soviet invasion in Afghanistan, said the CEO, furthering that despite the boycott the Soviet union remained in Afghanistan for almost a decade even after that year.

Meanwhile, the family of the detained Canadian Michael Kovrig also opined that boycotting the winter game was no solution.

Some people belonging to Canada’s Uyghur community opined that participating in the games hosted by China would amount to betraying what the country stood for. Moreover, John Higginbotham, a Canadian diplomat who advocated the boycott was also of the opinion that Beijing’s recent actions “meet the test fully” for the boycott. “What more do we need? Public execution of the Michaels? asked the irked diplomat.

There have been growing calls for boycotting the Winter Olympics, which celebrated their one-year countdown last Thursday. Several Canadian MPs signed an open letter calling for a boycott last week and asking for the Games to be relocated from the Chinese capital.

Meanwhile, China has threatened of imposing sanction on those who back out from participating in the winter games. According to the editor-in-chief of the state-backed nationalist tabloid Global Times, China will respond to Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic boycotts with serious sanctions towards any countries that pull out.

Sharing a screenshot of an article in The Guardian website, headlined “MPs urge British Olympians to boycott 2022 Beijing Winter Games”,  Hu Xijin wrote on Twitter on Sunday: “Boycotting 2022 Beijing Winter Games, an unpopular idea, won’t receive wide support. IOC and athletes will both oppose it, and China will seriously sanction any country that follows such a call.”

As the Globalist Left attempts to use the ‘farmer protests’ to further its agenda, India and PM Modi receive praise from others in the West

Prominent American conservatives and right-wingers have begun to express their support for India and Prime Minister Modi in wake of the Greta Files leak. On Sunday, influential U.S. conservative Jack Posobiec tweeted a popular image of Prime Minister Modi which is extremely recognizable amongst the PM’s supporters. The image, with an in-image caption reads, “In reality they’re not after me, they’re after you. I’m just just in the way”.

The tweet seems to signal support for India amidst the current campaign that is underway, as the fallout from Greta Leaks continues to spread throughout the Internet.

Jack Posobiec is a television news host for the cable news station, One America News Network, operating in USA. He’s an extremely influential conservative on the social media website Twitter, with over 1.1 million followers to his name. In 2016, he was the Special Projects Director for Citizens for Trump, the largest Trump grassroots organization in the United States.

Mr. Posobiec has also questioned the involvement of the Canadian Government in the Farmer Protests, including Jagmeet Singh, a Canadian Member of Parliament who has been linked with Khalistani outfits.

Credible allegations exist against Jagmeet Singh as being the person behind Rihanna’s Farmers Protest tweet. Mr. Posobiec also equated the Khalistan Movement to the Quebec Nationalist Movement, and exclaimed that if Canada can meddle in India’s internal politics, India can do the same thing vice versa. Mr. Posobiec was not the only American conservative who came out in support of India on social media.

On 4th February 2021, three days before Mr. Posobiec’s tweet, another noteworthy American conservative, Amy Mek signaled support for India. On Twitter, Amy Mek called upon her followers in India to help ‘expose the left’s coordinated attack’ on India and on the farm bills.

Amy Mek tweeted for India again, asking her fellow Americans to ‘pay attention to the coordinated global attack on India by the left.’ Amy Mek utilized her platform of more than 2,20,000 followers on Twitter to call for unity between Indians and Americans in order to fight the same dark forces of the Globalist Left.

Another prominent American conservative journalist Mike Cernovich, also came out in support for India on Twitter. Mr. Cernovich tweeted that one of the smartest person he knows has told him that ‘India is the future.’ Mr. Cernovich’s tweet was adjudged in the same context as Jack Posobiec and Amy Mek. Mr. Mike Cernovich is a highly influential conservative on the social media website Twitter, where he has over 6,60,000 followers.

Famous American YouTube personality and right-wing libertarian gamer, The Quartering, has posted a video covering the Greta Leaks on YouTube. The Quartering, who has accumulated over one million subscribers on YouTube, has received over 2 lakh views on his video since its upload. In his video, the Quartering goes through the Greta leaks, and heavily criticized the fake, inorganic activism of Greta Thunberg, Rihanna and others. The comments on this video are overwhelmingly pro-India, with seemingly most of them criticizing Greta and her toolkit brand of activism.

Across social media, in anti-left circles all around the world, the Nationalist rhetoric from PM Modi, has drawn praise. PM Modi’s perception is of a nationalist leader, who is leading a nation against Globalist institutions attempting to interfere with or influence the political system in India. Ever since the defeat of Donald Trump, the resignation of Shinzo Abe, the multiple scandals surrounding Jair Bolsanaro; and the shoddy handling of the Coronavirus Lockdown in U.K. by Boris Johnson, PM Modi remains the only legitimately elected, anti-Globalist leader.

Thus, those not fond of the Globalist Left from all across the world look towards India and PM Modi, as one of the only major democracies with a strong nationalist leader, to lead the fight against the Globalist Left and its neoliberal ideology.

India’s message of condemnation towards foreign actors attempting to influence her national discourse was met with praise from Western conservatives. The toolkit expose of Greta, which brought the story to mainstream attention, was the hook which lured a lot of Westerners to this story.

However, the real story is that India is effectively pushing back against these inorganic, foreign attempts to interfere with Indian affairs. Thus, at a time when India is being subjected to a negative international campaign, it has also drawn praise from unexpected quarters.

Investigating Super bowl ‘farmer protest’ ad: Greta toolkit, ties to George Soros and a track that glorifies Bhindranwale

Social media was abuzz on Monday after it was claimed by many international sympathisers of the ‘farmer protests’ in India that an ad in support of the protests was aired during the Super Bowl, a mega sporting event in the United States of America. The claims were only partially accurate but there is a lot more than what meets the eye here.

The immediate reaction from people on social media was that Super Bowl ads are extremely expensive. According to reports, a 32-second national ad cost $5.5 million. Therefore, how did the ‘protesters’ manage such a hefty amount?

As it turns out, it was not a national but a regional ad. And as such, cost only ten thousand dollars since it was aired only in the Fresco County area in California. According to reports, the ad was created by Indian-American Raj Sodhi-Layne with a couple of her friends and it was she who signed the contract for air time with CBS.

According to tweets by Sikh groups, the ad was aired on Channel 47 KSEE 24, in Fresno County, California, 3-3:30pm. It was aired prior to the game. She raised funds for the ad through an online funding campaign.

It is the Facebook account of Raj Sodhi Layne, however, that reveals the dark underbelly of the people behind the ad. On her profile, she shared a news report that credited the ‘Valley Sikh Community’ for funding the expenses.

Facebook post by Raj Sodhi Layne

In the Facebook Post, it can be seen that she has set her location to ‘Sikh Institute Fresno’ (SIF). The news report she has cited quotes one Gurpreet Singh Mann of SIF as saying, “The three laws are really going to change agriculture in India. The way they have been practicing agriculture, the corporate world is really going to be coming to the small farmers”.

One thing that is clear is that Raj Sodhi Layne worked with SIF for the super bowl ad. The website of the group shows that it works in partnership with the Sikh Coalition in the USA. In a post dating back to 2015, Gurpreet Mann discusses posters that were made by the Sikh Coalition.

Sikh Institute Fresno post from 2015

The said poster states, “Sikhism is a distinct, independent and monotheistic religion. It is not a branch or blend of any other faith.” Thus, the brand of Sikhism promoted by such groups appear consistent with that of Ashok Singh Garcha, who has earned the sobriquet of ‘Dharmo Semetic Garchos’.

Screenshot of a section of the poster

The Sikh Coalition has also been listed by the SIF as a valid resource for legal aid for Sikh. As it turns out, the Sikh Coalition receives funds from the Open Society Foundations (OSF). The OSF is an organisation of George Soros, who had earlier declared war on nationalists and nationalism, including Prime Minister Modi.

Its website states, “Most of the Sikh Coalition’s funding comes from generous individual donations within the community. The Sikh Coalition relies on your financial support to sustain its initiatives and broaden its services.”

“In addition, each year the Sikh Coalition proudly receives multiple competitive grants from private, non-Sikh foundations, including Open Society Foundations, the Proteus Fund, New York Foundation, and Emergent Fund,” it adds.

Sikh Coalition receives funds from George Soros’s Open Society Foundations

The SIF also lists the Jakara Movement as a ‘useful link’. Recently, Sangeet Toor, a journalist that was provided a platform by the Jakara Movement and given an air of credibility, spread fake news about ‘bombs being dropped at protest site’.

Furthermore, the Super Bowl ad in question featured a ‘farmers supporting song’ in the background which is titled ‘Dil-E’. The original video of the song is extremely problematic. At 2:06 into the video, Khalistani terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale is glorified.

Screenshot of the original video of the song at 2:06

Another point to note is that the theme of the ad is consistent with that of the music video. The video tries to draw an equivalence between the Black Lives Matter movement in the USA and the ad follows a similar theme with quotes by Martin Luther King Jr. Thus, it is abundantly clear that the Super Bowl ad plot was the work of individuals with extremely dubious ideological inclinations.

The Khalistani hands behind the international campaign was revealed when climate activist Greta Thunberg accidentally shared a toolkit that exposed the sinister agenda before quickly deleting it. Since then, Prime Minister Modi has also spoken about it and warned the country against its danger.

187 students and 75 teachers in Malappuram test positive for COVID-19, Kerala now accounts for 55% total active cases

Months after being prematurely hailed by a section of media for suppressing COVID-19 cases, Kerala continues to remain in the grips of the coronavirus as a total of 187 students and 75 teachers have been reported to contracted the infection in two schools in Malappuram district.

The RT-PCR test conducted at Government Higher Secondary School, Maranchery and Vanneri Higher Secondary School, Perumbadappu on Friday once again punctured the claims of “Kerala Model”, touted by a section of media to hail state against the coronavirus.

By Sunday evening, it was revealed that 148 students and 39 teachers at Maranchery school, 39 students and 36 teachers at Vanneri school were infected with the contagion. The ubiquity of the infection in the schools underscores the extent of the coronavirus spread in the districts—Maranchery, Perambadappu and Veliyamkode in Malappuram and Vadakkekkad in Thrissur.

Samples were collected from tenth standard students in Maranchery school. Swabs of plus two students were going to be taken on Monday. The health department had advised those who had come in contact with the affected students to go on isolation.

The decision to conduct large-scale tests was taken after it was suspected that the students in Maranchery school might be affected with COVID-19. ” As many as 582 students and 50 staff at the Maranchery school were tested for COVID-19,” District Medical Officer(DMO) Dr K Sakeena said.

Dr Sakeena said tests were conducted at the Vanneri school after a teacher had tested positive for the virus. A total of 49 students were tested for the coronavirus, and 36 staff who took the tests were confirmed with the virus.

55 per cent of total active coronavirus cases in India belong to Kerala

It is also pertinent to note that Kerala currently has 55 per cent of the total active coronavirus cases in the country. Out of total 1,43,857 active coronavirus cases in the country, Kerala tops the list of states with 65,413 caseloads.

The fresh wave of coronavirus in Kerala comes months after liberals, along with left-leaning media eagerly applauded the Pinarayi Vijayan-led state government for its handling of the coronavirus outbreak. However, since then the situation in the state has only worsened as the number of COVID-19 cases reported are steadily rising.

The Kerala government is accused of not only underreporting of the coronavirus cases in the state but also has been accused of deliberately hiding the number of people who have succumbed to the pandemic to keep their image intact.

Kerala government accused of underreporting COVID-19 cases

Recently, a group of volunteers in Kerala has made a sensational claim accusing the Kerala government of fudging their COVID data to show a lesser number of coronavirus deaths in the state. The group recorded every Covid-19 related death in the state as per media reports and found that it is much more than the number of deaths reported by the state govt.

The group of researchers have compiled a list containing names of all the people who succumbed to the Chinese pandemic. These group of researches have put months of painstaking research to record data of these deceased persons, picking up from local papers and news networks to report almost all deaths that occurred in the state due to the pandemic.

According to the researchers, there were 3,543 COVID-19 deaths from Kerala till November 2020. However, the official death toll from the disease is 2,023 only. If one goes by the data of recorded deaths by Madhavan and his team, there has been a whopping 43 per cent of underreporting of COVID deaths in Kerala.

India TV, which had also published the same report, deleted it too.

According to now-deleted reports, the accused has duped Harshita of Rs 34,000. The accused had initially deposited a small amount of money into Harshita Kejriwal’s account, presumably to gain her trust. Later, using a rigged QR code sent to Harshita, the fraudster withdrew the sum from her account.

Delhi Civil Lines Police have registered a case based on Delhi CM’s daughter’s complaint and investigations are underway.

It is unclear as to why the story was deleted by NDTV. There are several reports, like this one on OneIndia, that still carry the story. It is unclear if the story itself was false or NDTV and other media houses chose to delete the report under some sort of pressure from AAP.

Rahul Gandhi and Congress launch a campaign to hire paid social media trolls: Read how

After years of spreading lies and falsehoods on social media platforms, the Congress party has now officially launched a campaign to hire paid social media trolls to further its propaganda. The campaign was launched during a press conference convened by the Congress party on Monday.

Dubbed as “Social Media Warrior”, the campaign aims to enrol about 5,00,000 social media trolls, including 50,000 office-bearers from across the country. In the press conference, Congress leaders Pawan Khera, Pawan Bansal and Rohan Gupta unveiled the party’s campaign of raising a social media troll army to bolster its presence on various social media platforms.

It stands to reason that the 50,000 office bearing trolls that Congress party recruit would obviously be paid. However, it is also not clear if they would be paying their entire army of 5 lac trolls or they would choose only the best trolls to receive payment.

The development to raise a paid online troll army was supported by the senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who took to Twitter to admit that Congress party will henceforth avail the services of internet trolls to spread its propaganda.

Exhorting people to join Congress’ ‘online troll army’, Gandhi hailed internet trolls as the “backbone” of the social media fight and urged social media warriors to join Congress to take on what he described as “paid trolls”.

Promotional video, helpline line number and dedicated website for Congress’ “social media warrior” launched

During the press conference, a promotional video for Congress’ “social media warrior” campaign was also launched, aimed at inviting online trolls active on social media websites to work for the Congress party. A logo devoted to Congress’ “social media warrior” campaign was also revealed in the press conference.

Furthermore, a helpline number and dedicated website to recruit social media trolls have also been launched. According to the website, the Indian National Congress social media team, under the campaign, will be expanded at every village, city, state, and national level in the country.

‘If you to believe in the ideology of the Congress party and want to contribute to the nation-building, then let us be a part of the Congress Social Media Team,” the website read.

The website sought personal details such as name, phone number, Whatsapp number, state, district, PIN code, educational qualifications, number of hours trolls can devote working for the Congress social media team and their preferred areas of interest.

Besides, applicants were also asked to provide social media platforms on which they were active and the link of their most active social media handle.

Those interested for being a part of Congress’ social media troll army are expected to fill the form. According to the Congress spokespersons in the press conference, after careful scrutiny of those interested, interviews will be conducted to complete the recruitment process, followed by training to put the project in motion at the earliest.

Congress spokesperson claim Congress to raise online army to save the nation, but they don’t elaborate how

Responding to a question raised during the Press conference, Congress social media head Rohan Gupta said that the purpose of raising an “troll army” would be to counter trolls who indulge in “wrong trolling”. “On many occasions, we witness that people are being trolled for wrong reasons. We can’t stop the trolls because of their sheer strength. This army is being raised to counter their numerical dominance,” Gupta said.

Pawan Bansal, another Congress leader who was present at the press conference said that the social media warriors employed by the Congress party would help in saving the nation. However, he, along with other Congress functionaries, Rohan Gupta and Pawan Khera, did not elaborate on how raising an army of internet trolls would save the nation.

As Capt Amarinder Singh extends legal help to Republic Day rioters, Punjab police ‘controls’ protesting teachers with sticks: Details

The anti-farm law agitation in India has received active support of the Congress since the beginning. A ‘motivated’ movement, which began in the Congress-ruled State of Punjab, camouflaged into violence, vandalism and desecration of the Indian tricolour on India’s 71st Republic Day.

Under the watch of CM Captain Amarinder Singh, the ruling political dispensation remained steadfast to the anti-farm law propaganda so much so that all other issues concerning the State took a backseat. On Sunday, a large group of unemployed computer teachers tried to storm the residence of the State Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla in Sangrur in Punjab.

The protestors took out a state-level rally against the government for being jobless, despite clearing the ETT and TET exams. Spearheaded by the Computer Adhyapak Union, the teachers sought a merger with the Education Department. They first gathered near Sangrur Deputy Commissioner’s office, before marching to Singla’s local residence.

Scuffle breaks out between Punjab police and teachers

When they reached near the residence of the State Education Minister, they tried to cross the barricades. The police cracked down on the demonstrators with sticks. During the scuffle, around four protestors were injured. However, a total of 19 teachers were able to breach security and cross the barricades. A protestor informed, “After regularisation, we’re still working under a society. Our meetings with Singla and other authorities have failed to get the desired result.”

While speaking on the development, President of ETT and TET pass Union Deepak Kamboj emphasised that the Punjab government had been considering B.Ed pass individuals for ETT posts. “This is injustice with us and we will not tolerate it at any cost. The government must consider only ETT-pass youth for ETT posts,” he added.

The protestors had earlier turned down a proposal by the government to conduct a meeting on February 24. They had also organised a ‘Poll Khol rally’ in Bhawanigarh to urge people to not vote for the Congress party in the council elections.

Punjab CM sets up legal team to help anti-farm law rioters

Last week, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh late took to Twitter to inform that the Punjab government has hired a team of 70 lawyers to ensure quick legal recourse for the ‘farmers’ booked by Delhi Police in connection to the Republic Day riots. CM Capt Amarinder Singh said that he will personally take up the issue of ‘missing farmers’ with the Ministry of Home Affairs and ensure these people reach home safely. Soon after Captain Amarinder Singh’s tweet, netizens wondered if the taxpayers’ money was being used to provide legal aid to the rioting mob.

Watch: Pakistanis battle each other for a piece of cake, FM Shah Mahmood Qureshi tries to eat a piece with his mask still on

0

In a hilarious video shared by Pakistan journalist Naila Inayat, Pakistanis are seen falling over each and fighting for a piece of cake in the presence of the Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

Reportedly, the fight over cake erupted when Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi was in Multan for a road inauguration. After the inauguration ceremony, when it was time to cut the cake, Pakistanis simply could not control themselves and started battling each other for a piece.

The same video was also uploaded on YouTube.

In the video, hungry citizens of Pakistan can also been seen collecting some cake that had fallen on the floor due to the ensuing fight.

Interestingly, alert netizens from India also pointed out that Qureshi had almost joined the battling crowd and hurriedly tried to eat a piece himself with his mask on.

A closer perusal of the video shows that this claim is, indeed, true.

screen grab from the video

It is entirely possible that Shah Mahmood Qureshi was only hurriedly trying to take a bite of the cake because he knew that hungry Pakistanis could perhaps attack the cake and not leave a piece for him in the end.

Congress senior leader Kamal Nath follows an Instagram handle called ‘Karonaviral’ and it has nothing to do with ‘corona’: Details

Congress senior leader Kamal Nath like many other celebrities and political figures is also an avid social media user. Like Twitter, the former Madhya Pradesh Prime Minister is also very active on Instagram, the photo and video-sharing social networking service owned by Facebook. The Congress veteran has an impressive 2.10 lakh followers on his Instagram handle, however, he only follows 17.

Though it is completely his discretion as to whom he wants to follow through his social media accounts and its not our place to comment, the third name on the veteran leaders’ Instagram follow list, just below that of his son Nakul Kamal Nath, surely caught our attention and we decided to dig further.

Who Kamal Nath follows on Instagram

The Congress leader follows an Instagram handle which goes by the name ‘karona viral official’, and no, as most people might think, this handle has nothing to do with the pathogen which has wreaked havoc across the world.

This Instagram page has a little above 25000 followers and most of the pictures posted on this page are incredibly vulgar and sexually provocative. These posts are so explicit that it cannot be shared on a public platform.

One of the posts on Karonaviral’s Instagram handle

What appears from Kamal Nath’s Instagram profile is that he is very particular in choosing whom to follow. This is why, though Kamal Nath has over 2.10 lakh followers, he follows only 17. One is left to wonder here, as to what necessitated the Congress veteran to follow this explicit social media handle.

Further on scanning the profile ‘Karonaviral’, we found that this account was in no way related to the Congress party nor any of its leaders. But now with Kamal Nath having followed her on Instagram, considering he follows only 17 people against 2.10 lakh followers he has, one wonders if other Congress leader would now follow suit.

Posts of the handle followed by Kamal Nath

It is pertinent to note here that any account that follows as few as 17 handles does so after careful consideration and vetting, especially, if that handle belongs to a leader as senior as Kamal Nath. None of the posts by this handle pertain remotely to politics, rather, pertains to vulgar images and posts full of sexual innuendos.

‘MSP tha, MSP hai, aur MSP rahega’, PM Modi assures the angry ‘phoophis’ in parliament: Read what he said

While replying in the Rajya Sabha on the discussion on motion of thanks to President’s address, PM Modi said: “Congress members are like those ‘phoophis’ in Indian weddings who are always upset and angry…”

“…Whenever there is a wedding in the house, there is this one phoophi (aunt) who is upset, complaining about everything, it happens in every household. When there is such a big family, one phoophi is bound to be present who is angered over everything,” said PM Modi.

“A lot has been spoken about the farmer’s protest. People have dedicated maximum time talking about the protest, but no one has actually spoken on the real reason behind the protest”, said PM Narendra Modi, taking on the opposition parties for using the ongoing ‘farmers’ agitation for propaganda and petty politics.

The PM also stated that the farm reforms were also talked about during the tenure of former PM Manmohan Singh and the opposition should feel proud that it is Manmohan Singh’s ideas that we have implemented.

The Prime Minister, speaking on the farmer’s agitation, said that there are challenges. But we have to decide whether we want to be part of the problem or the medium of solution.

Lauding the contribution of former PM HD Deve Gowda on the discussions relating to agriculture in the Parliament, PM Modi said that his words have added great perspective to every debate. He has appreciated what the government has done for the farmers and given valuable suggestions as he himself has a strong association with the agriculture sector, said PM Modi.

PM quoted former PM Chaudhary Charan Singh while talking about the farmer’s protest. The adverse conditions faced by small farmers have always effected Charan Singh, he was always worried about them. If we see the statistics, there are more than 12 crore farmers that are almost 86 per cent of the total number of farmers in the country who have less than 2 hectares of agricultural land. “Are we not responsible for these 12 crore farmers,” asked Modi. We need to keep small farmers at the centre of our policies to pay tribute to Chaudhary Charan Singh, who is often hailed as the champion of Indian farmers, said the Prime Minister.

‘Pehle the buddhijivi ab hain sirf andolanjivi’: PM Modi takes a dig at Congress party

Taken a dig at the opposition especially Congress, PM Modi said: “Pehle the buddhijivi ab hain sirf andolanjivi (earlier there were intellectuals, now there are only people who survive on protests), said Modi furthering that as elections approach opposition parties starts ranting the loan waiver narrative. Farm loan waivers do not benefit small and marginal farmers. How much ever politics is over loan waivers, the fact is that these small farmers do not have bank accounts nor to they ever apply for loans. So how would farm loan waivers benefit these marginal farmers, asked the PM.

The big farmers have always benefitted from the agricultural reforms but the small farmers have always stayed deprived. The need of the hour is to improve the lives of the small farmers, which Modi Government realised and worked towards it. “Since 2014 we have initiated changes in the agriculture sector aimed at empowering the farmer. The crop insurance scheme was changed to make it more farmer-friendly. The PM-KISAN scheme was also brought in. We are working for small farmers.”

In the last 4-5 years, claims worth Rs 90 thousand crore have been given to farmers under the crop insurance scheme, said Modi.

We have not only brought in the Kisan credit card and have increased its periphery. The Indian fishermen can also eligible for this card and can use its benefits, informed the PM, furthering that this credit card has reached 1.75 crore farmers already. and we are earnestly requesting all state governments to implement the scheme in their respective state so that maximum farmers can benefit out of this the central scheme.

Speaking on the PM Samman Nidhi Yojana, Modi said that until now almost 10 crore farmers have already benefitted from this scheme and had the politics of the ruling dispensation in Bengal not come in between, the Bengal farmers would too be a part of this ambitious scheme through which the central governments has deposited almost Rs 1,15,000 crore in the bank accounts of the marginal farmers associated with this scheme.

The Prime Minister said NDA’s other schemes also help farmers. He cited the PMGSY as an example and said, “When the road connectivity improves, it enables the produce of the farmers to reach distant places. There are efforts like Kisan Rail too. The need of the hour is to improve the lives of the small farmers.”

I am surprised at the sudden U-Turn: PM says quoting Congress leader Manmohan Singh

PM Narendra Modi said in Rajya Sabha, “Sharad Pawar ji, and those from Congress, everyone… all governments have stood for agricultural reforms. Whether they were able to do it or not, but everyone has advocated that it should be done.” However, I am surprised at the sudden U-Turn these parties have taken…”.

“…Here I would like to read out a quote by Congress senior leader and former PM Manmohan Singh. Even if the Congress and other parties do not listen, they will perhaps agree with him”. PM Modi said reading out a quote by Manmohan Singh on the Rajya Sabha: “There are other rigidities because of marketing regime set up in the 1930s which prevent our farmers from selling their produce where they get the highest rate of return…”

“…It is our intention to remove all those handicaps which come in the way of India realising its vast potential at one large common market…MSP was there, it is there and it will continue to exist,” PM Narendra Modi quotes the Congress bigwig in Rajya Sabha said.

Taking a further dig at the Congress, PM Modi reiterated that opposition members should be proud that the BJP government is trying to implement what Manmohan Singh had envisioned for the Indian farmers. “Be proud of us”, Modi said with a smile on his face leaving the Rajya Sabha in a cackle.

The amusing part of the entire fiasco is it that those who have been indulging in petty politics over the central government’s farm laws have also implemented it in bits and pieces in places where they have been in power, opined the PM.

Modi invokes Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose

Meanwhile, quoting Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, PM Modi said: “Aaj jo mere khaate mainhain, kal Congress netao ke khaate mein bhi wo sab hi tha, left wale us samay bhi wohi bhasha mein virodh karte the”, roughly translated as (whatever the left says about me today, they said the same about the Congress then).

“We’ve forgotten the ideals of Netaji. We’ve started cursing ourselves. I sometimes get surprised, the world gives us a term and we start following it – ‘Largest democracy of the world’ – it feels good to hear this but we didn’t teach our youth that India is the mother of democracy. India’s nationalism is neither narrow nor selfish and not even aggressive. This is inspired by the values of ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’. This quotation was given by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose,” PM Modi furthered in the upper house.
