Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat has decided to free 51 Hindu Temples from government control, CNN News18 has reported. The decision comes after intense protests against the decision by the state government to takeover the administration of the Temples earlier.
Uttarakhand Char Dhaam Devasthanam Board was formed in January 2020 to manage temples in the state during the administration of former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. The state government had enacted the Chardham Shrine Management Board Act 2019 to oversee the management of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath and 51 Temples.
The decision had attracted massive protests from the priests who had continued protesting against the same under difficult conditions. The decision by CM Tirath Singh Rawat comes at a time when there is a movement underway to free Hindu Temples from the control of the Secular State.
Tirath Singh Rawat has said that it will review the whole Act and take measures to bring 51 Temples out of the purview of the Act. The BJP in Tamil Nadu had also promised that a separate board of saints and scholars will be appointed to manage the administration of the state should they come to power.
The current decision by the Uttarakhand CM came after a meeting with a VHP delegation. Incidentally, today, the 9th of April, is also his birthday.
The Bhiwadi police have registered a case against one Maulvi named Zafru after he was accused of raping a minor girl and thereafter throwing her into a well and fleeing. The incident which occurred in Bhiwadi district in Alwar, Rajasthan, came to the fore when the 14-year-old victim’s family approached the police station, seven days after the incident, reports Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar.
Speaking about the incident, Bhiwadi Circle officer Hariram Kumawat said that the accused Maulvi, who hails from Bisaru village in Punhana town of Nuh district, Haryana, lived in a Mosque in Bhiwadi. The cleric allegedly took the 14-year-old minor from her house to the mosque on the night of April 1, where he raped her. At around 3:30 pm, when the family reached the mosque searching for their missing daughter, the Maulvi pushed the victim into the well.
After throwing her into the well, Maulana Zafru fled with his family. People who had gathered there took the girl out safely from the well and approached the police to register a case against the Maulana. Two police teams have been formed and a search operation has been launched to nab the accused. According to reports, the cleric is married and has two children.
To get more information about the case, OpIndia got in touch with the Bhiwadi police. The officer in the control room confirmed that the incident did happen. He said that the victim is safe and recuperating in the hospital. The cleric is absconding with his family. Efforts are being made to nab him. The officer refused to give out any extra information about the case.
In the last few days, several allegations of sexual assault against activists associated with the farmer protests have surfaced. On April 7 we reported how several victims had taken to social media to narrate their ordeal. The allegations started with a post against one Mohammad Zuber (_emmzedd on Instagram). In the due course of time, other activists, associated with the farmer protests were also named. This included names like Varun Chouhan (member of Trolly Times), Antarpreet Singh (leader of Students For Society), and Manish Kumar (President, Swaraj For Youth).
5th allegation of sexual assault surfaces against Varun Chouhan
So far, in our report, we detailed the account of four victims who accused Varun Chouhan (member of Trolly Times) of sexual assault. Now, “The Kaur Movement”, who had taken the initiative to publish stories on behalf of the other victims, has come up with the ordeal of the fifth victim who allegedly fell prey to Varun Chouhan’s salaciousness.
As accounted by the victim, she met Varun Chouhan in 2019 on Instagram. She was 19-years-old then. The victim recollected how Varun had extorted money for her, a sum of around 2-3 lacs, some of which the accused haven’t returned to the victim till date.

She recounted how Varun forced her to get involved with another woman in a threesome. He convinced her that indulging in a threesome was all normal and nothing but “exploring your sexuality”. The victim says that since she was only 19, an age group that is known to be the most vulnerable when it comes to sexual or physical abuse, she started believing, that all this was ‘normal’.

The victims furthered that Varun used her Instagram account, without her knowledge, to send her unsolicited pictures to people whom he thought ‘would be interested in threesomes’.
In her story, she mentioned how she was convinced that Varun was in love with her until she came to know that he was two-timing and cheating on her. Whenever she tried confronting Varun after that, he started shouting and crying, making it impossible for her to talk with him. Due to all this stress, her mental health deteriorated to a point that it became difficult to survive, said the victim.
Later, the victim happened to find out how Varun deceived her all along. She also met the other victim who had fallen prey to Varun Chouhan’s trickery. The victim confirmed that she personally knows at least 4 of Varun’s victims and there are several others whom she has no account of.

Saying so, the victim lamented that the “filthy guy” is in possession of a lot of personal pictures and videos of hers as well as his other victims. “I have seen a few of them and he even happened to share with girls and boys to lure them”, said the victim, adding that she is hopeful that this “whole movement will take strict action against this guy and can spread the word so other women are not harmed by him”.
Varun Chouhan has been actively covering the ‘farmers’ protests under Trolley Times. In our earlier report, we mentioned how he has been named by four different victims. After he was accused of sexually assaulting a victim, “The Kaur Movement” took the initiative to publish stories on behalf of the victims. The Kaur Movement had not published any names of the victims to ensure their privacy.

Shockingly, despite the details of so many allegations being out on the public platform, Trolley Times refused to take any step against Varun. They acknowledged that they know about the allegations against Varun but refused to take any action against him “in lack of an official complaint.”
Manish Kumar’s victim castigates Swaraj India and Yogendra Yadav for shielding the accused
In the same April 7th report, we had also mentioned the case of another victim who had leveled similar allegations against Manish Kumar, President, Youth 4 Swaraj. It has to be noted that Youth 4 Swaraj is the youth wing of Yogendra Yadav’s Swaraj India.
The victim has claimed in her post that she informed about the sexual assault to Yadav and other senior members, but no one paid heed to her. In her post, the victim said that the case of Varun made her feel empowered to talk about what had happened to her. She had to resign from Swaraj India (Yogendra Yadav’s organization) after its members mentally traumatized and abused her.
Today, the victim took to Twitter to express her disgust at Swaraj India and its chief Yogendra Yadav who she claims is merely pretending to conduct an enquiry against his employee and her assaulter Manish Kumar.

“If a fair enquiry has been conducted, then it’s their responsibility to come out with a transparent statement and their stand on the harasser”, wrote the victim furthering, that “also if @_SwarajIndia has dismissed all the allegation in the name of enquiry, and has resorted to victim-blaming, then it should further come out and apologize on their horrendous behaviour”.
She condemned Yogendra Yadav for shielding his staff who mentally traumatised and abused her, and asked Yadav to “morally resign from public life”.
Swaraj India issues statement, claims that the case of sexual assault was dealt with strictly and closed in February 2021
After remaining silent for the three-four days, Swaraj India has released a statement today, claiming that the complaint against the sexual harassment case was already dealt with by the organisation. It called out the “false and malicious” propaganda that was being spread regarding the complaint received and adjudicated by the internal complaints committee (ICC) of Swaraj Abhiyan under the Sexual Harassment Act.
It said that the case came to the fore on September 17th, 2020. Since the incident happened more than a year before the current farmer’s movement started, it had no connection with the Jan Kisan Andolan or the Swaraj Abhiyan.

For the uninitiated, Swaraj Abhiyan is an Indian political party that began on 14 April 2015. It was formed by Swaraj India chief Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan in Gurgaon following their expulsion from the Aam Aadmi Party.
Swaraj Abhiyan further wrote in the statement that a special committee was constituted to look into the matter, which had submitted its final observation in the case to the concerned parties on February 18, 2021. “All finding of the Special Committee was accepted and recommendations were implemented in full. The case stands closed”, read the statement.
Indian diaspora organisations in the United Kingdom have written to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson over concerns related to hatred against Hindus in connection with the Oxford University controversy. The groups have raised concerns over the lack of against Abhijit Sarkar for his bigoted views directed at Rashmi Sawant.
“Dr Abhijit Sarkar, a faculty member, instigated hate-filled trolls on social media against her which led her to go into hiding and finally leave the country. Dr Sarkar continued stalking Rashmi on social media, attacking her and her family for their Hindu faith and beliefs which led her to severe depression and hospitalisation,” says the letter.
“Thames Valley Police should seriously investigate and charge him for a hate crime. Dr Sarkar has come to the UK on an Exceptional Talent visa. Home Office should review his visa status in view of his racist and hateful actions on social media,” it adds.
The signatories of the letter, numbering 119, include Friends of India Society International (FISI) UK, Akshay Patra Foundation UK, Hindu Council UK, Hindu Forum of Europe, Vishwa Hindu Parishad UK and National Council of Hindu Temples (NCHT) among others.
Meanwhile, an Oxford University spokesperson has said in a statement, “An independent investigation into these online comments, which have been made from a private, non-University account, is ongoing and we must allow time for this formal process to be followed.”
“We never comment on individual cases because of the importance of not prejudicing an investigation as well as protecting the privacy of those involved, but the University thoroughly investigates all formal complaints that our harassment or equality policies have been breached,” the statement said.
“When doing so, the investigation process is launched without delay, and, when appropriate, independent investigators are appointed. Cases are resolved as swiftly as is possible to ensure equitable treatment of all parties,” the spokesperson added. The spokesperson also said that Oxford University does not condone statements that constitute harassment.
Following Sawant’s resignation as the president of the Oxford University Students’ Union, Hinduphobic rants of Abhijit Sarkar had gone viral on social media. In one such viral post, he had shared a photo of Goddess Saraswati and wrote, “I remember when I was a kid I broke several Saraswati idols by thrashing them on the floor. I have been aggressively anti-religion from childhood you see.” In others, he attacked Rashmi Sawant directly.
Congress leader Janardan Chandurkar recently criticised Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray for sanctioning an amount of whopping Rs 3,693 crores from the District Planning and Development Committee(DPDC) funds for the beautification of bungalows of 43 Shiv Sena corporators, a report published in Navbharat Times said.

Taking strong objection over Thackeray’s decision, Chandurkar released a video on Facebook in which he criticised Thackeray for the unprecedented decision ahead of the BMC elections. Chandurkar has raised a question on the timing of the decision, criticising Aaditya Thackeray for helping Shiv Sena corporators before the upcoming Municipal elections.
Earlier in the month, Environment and Tourism minister Aaditya Thackeray cleared Rs 3,693 crores to renovate bungalows of Shiv Sena corporators at the BMC. The allocation was sanctioned ahead of the forthcoming Municipal elections in Mumbai.
Criticising Aaditya Thackeray’s decision, Chandurkar said, “The state’s environment and Mumbai suburban district guardian minister Aaditya Thackeray has given Rs 3,693 crore from the DPDC fund to 43 Shiv Sena corporators in the city for beautification purposes. This order has been approved by the District Collector of Mumbai and has gone to MHADA for further action. I am glad that money came to Mumbai. However, in view of the forthcoming municipal elections, this is the first time in the history of DPDC that such beautification work has been sanctioned in the constituency of 43 corporators.”
Chandurkar further asked all the political parties to take note of the development and urged Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to intervene in the matter, citing that according to fiscal discipline, a provision is to be made in the budget for DPDC funds. He said in absence of such a provision, from where the fund of Rs 3,693 crores will be procured.
“The principle of equal justice to all is anathema to Shiv Sena. This is an unconstitutional matter and all administrative officials should pay attention to this violation. I also request, if these orders are illegal, then as per the Supreme Court directives, they should not be implemented,” Chandurkar said.
Shiv Sena’s mayor grants zero allocation to BJP’s 83 councillors
For some time now, the exchequer funds have been treated as personal purse by Shiv Sena, granting generous amounts to their party corporators and leaders while depriving corporators of other political parties with meagre to none allocation. Recently, despite having 83 councillors in the BMC, the BJP received not a single paisa from the Mayor’s Rs 190 crores fund while the 97 Shiv Sena councillors were granted Rs 163 crores.
Congress, with 29 corporators, bagged Rs 9 crores and the NCP got Rs 11 crores for its 8 corporators. Even Samajwadi Party, which has six corporators, managed to get Rs 4.75 crores from the Mayor’s fund. Corporators from other parties and independents got Rs 2.25 crores.
Earlier, the BJP was snubbed with a paltry allocation from the BMC standing committee’s kitty. BJP had then got Rs 140 crores from the Rs 650 crore fund passed by the civic standing committee. Sena had then received a staggering Rs 340 crores.
The life of Hunter Biden, the son of incumbent US President Joe Biden, has been mired in controversies. In April 2019, he left his laptop at a computer repair shop in Wilmington in the State of Delaware and never returned to take it back. Since then, the contents of the abandoned laptop have been the subject of speculation.
In the run-up to the 2020 US Presidential elections, Donald Trump’s lawyer Rudy Guliani had alleged that the laptop contained explicit pictures of underage girls and text messages of Hunter Biden’s inappropriate sexual conduct. It has now come to light that a cache of 2000 photos, 1,54,000 emails and 1,03,000 text messages have been retrieved from the laptop and verified by top forensic experts, reportedDaily Mail.
The British Daily obtained a copy of the hard drive and commissioned cyber experts from a firm named Maryman & Associates to determine the authenticity of its contents. They were also tasked with the responsibility to analyse the large cache of data. Given that the firm’s founder Brad Maryman is an FBI veteran Supervisory Special Agent, the company used the same forensic tools as used by federal law enforcement authorities in a criminal investigation.
In its report to the Daily Mail, Maryman & Associates noted, “The data on the system before April 2019 appears to be related to Mr Biden, with timestamps appearing to be between 2016 and 2019. The operating system timestamps appear to be authentic, and no evidence was found to suggest that the timestamps or data were altered or manufactured. No indications were found that would indicate the data was manufactured.”
The report’s findings contradict the earlier statements made by Joe Biden in his son’s defence. When a few emails from the laptop were secretly leaked, the incumbent US President had dubbed it as ‘a bunch of garbage’ in October last year. Some Democrats, including Hunter Biden, had blamed it on Russian Intelligence as well.
However, on Sunday (April 4), Hunter Biden conceded that the abandoned laptop might be his. “There could be a laptop out there that was stolen from me. It could be that I was hacked. It could be that it was the — that it was Russian intelligence. It could be that it was stolen from me or that there was a laptop stolen from me,” he remarked.
Hunter Biden obsessed with prostitution and pornography
Several pictures were recovered by the forensic agency from the laptop of Hunter Biden. In one photo, he was seen pulling a woman by her hair while she bent on her knees in a sexually suggestive position. Joe Biden’s son also had a profile (username RHEast) on the pornography website, Pornhub. His account had 66 award badges, and a badge for having over 50 subscribers, watching 500 videos and watching porn in HD.

He was often seen posing with two prostitutes sitting on top of him. The hard drive of the laptop also contained explicit videos of him starring in porn films. He primarily used his laptop webcam to shoot videos and also took footage using his iPad and cell phone. He would leave the webcam on after filming sex scenes and re-watched the footage on his computer.

Obsessed with pornography, Hunter Biden had a large collection of naked selfies and hundreds of pictures of nude women. Interestingly, his sex tapes and nude pictures of prostitutes were mixed in between the business documents, family photos and selfies with his lover Hallie Biden.
One of the women seen in the above picture can be traced to a Hollywood location. Besides, there is a picture of a nude woman with only her behind showing, who according to The Gateway Pundit, is a member of the Biden family. Interestingly, a page on his bookmark list named ‘Joe Biden smiling’ redirected to his PornHub account.
Drug abuse and trafficking
On analysing the text messages, Daily Mail found that Hunter Biden would often order drugs to his hotel room. He would take them with the hookers, either before or after sex. There are pictures of bottles of 100 mg Viagra pills, which is the highest dose that can be prescribed by a doctor. In a text message from February 20, 2019, Hunter Biden was seen coordinating with a pimp named Dianna Pagano to transport women in Uber taxis to his hotel in New Haven in Connecticut.
The pimp was also seen offering him drugs, in another text message dating a month later. In November 2019, Dianna Pagano was charged for violating probation guidelines and running a drug racket from her residence. Although the pimp was not charged for a prostitution-related offence, six of her customers were arrested. Using his political affluence, Hunter Biden was successful in evading arrest.
Text messages between Joe Biden and Hunter Biden showed that the former was well-aware of his drug abuse. Although Joe Biden had called for harsher sentences for substance abuse in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the incumbent US President relented and was more than willing to forgive and forget his son’s ‘crack binge’. In one picture, Hunter Biden was seen posing with his cracked and damaged teeth, indicating long-term abuse of Methamphetamine.
Rudy Giuliani reveals chats of Hunter Biden
In an interview with Newsmax in October last year, the aide of Donald Trump showed a text message, allegedly sent by Hunter Biden to his father Joe Biden, As per Giuliani, the message reads about an alleged sexually inappropriate behaviour by Hunter.
The content of the message seems to convey that Hunter Biden was telling his father that his sister-in-law, with whom he was in a relationship for some time, had expressed concerns over ‘naked’ video calls with a certain 14-year-old girl. It further read that the sister-in-law cum lover also thought that Hunter creates a very ‘unsafe environment’ for the kids as he keeps smoking ‘crack’ and walking around naked in the house, speaking to underage girls.
Mumbai Sessions Court has dismissed the defamation complaint filed against Republic Editor Arnab Goswami by Mumbai cop Abhishek Trimukhe. The complaint was not maintainable before the Sessions Court under provisions of the CrPC, the Court ruled according to Bar and Bench.
The complaint was filed under section 199(2). Judge Uday M. Padwad observed, “Section 199(2) of the Cr. P. C. requires that the complaint has to be in writing and has to be made by the public prosecutor. This, in other words, means that no other person, be that even the person against whom the offence is alleged to have been committed, can make such a complaint.”
“In the present complaint, the complainant is not the public prosecutor. He merely has filed the complaint of Shri. Trimukhe, exactly similar to what the prosecutors do while filing Appeals, Revisions and other proceedings on behalf of the State/Prosecution. The public prosecutor thus is nothing more than a medium to file this complaint,” he stated.
The Court ruled that “His filing the complaint even through the public prosecutor however, would not confer any jurisdiction on this Court to take cognizance of the alleged offence.” In his complaint, DCP Abhishek Trimukhe had alleged that malicious comments against him were telecast on Republic Bharat.
Trimukhe alleged that Arnab Goswami had attempted to create an impression that the Mumbai Police including Trimukhe himself had made a deal with Rhea Chakraborty to shield her from the investigation into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput.
The focus of the Maharashtra state government seems to have shifted from fighting the rise in cases of COVID-19 to fighting the Centre. This comes at a time when the state of Maharashtra reported 56,286 new Covid-19 cases, contributing 60% to the nation’s tally.
In an intensified fight between the state and the Centre, Maharashtra’s health minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday alleged that the Centre is not supplying enough vaccines despite the state being worst hit by new cases of the Chinese virus.
Tope said that the supplies are not enough as the state needs at least 40 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine per week and 1.6 crore doses per month. “The Centre is not helping Maharashtra as much as it should. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana etc.- states ruled by the BJP— have been given far more vaccines than Maharashtra,” alleged Tope. He informed that there is a shortage of the vaccines and that the state is now left with only 14 lakh doses, which would last not more than 3 days.
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray too complained about the lack of support from the Centre. In a tweet addressing the Prime Minister, he informed about the depletion of stock and demanded that the stock of vaccine doses in the pipeline should be sent at once without any further delay.

In the purview of this, as many as 51 vaccination centers out of 120 have been shut in the city of Mumbai as the vaccine stocks at these centers have been exhausted, as per a Times of India report.
Assistant Commissioner of the G/North Ward of the BMC, shared a list of vaccination centres that will remain shut in the city today. The list that he shared on Twitter included major centres like BKC Jumbo facility, Dahisar Jumbo facility, SevenHills hospital and Cooper hospital.

However, the Centre has slammed the state government for complete mismanagement and failure to create robust infrastructure in the state. Despite giving assurance that the vaccine stock will be replenished on time, the state government is adamant on receiving the doses in advance.
In reply to the claims of the state government, Union minister and senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar alleged that five lakh doses of the COVID-19 vaccines were wasted in Maharashtra due to a lack of planning by the state government.
“I want to make it clear that the Maharashtra government has 23 lakh doses of the vaccines with it….which is a stock for five to six days. Now, to distribute in villages and districts is the responsibility of the state government,” Javadekar said while addressing a press conference at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office.
In a rebuttal to the Maharashtra government’s claim of shortage of vaccines, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has also issued a clarification. He tweeted, “Hue & cry by certain States about partisanship by the Union Govt is just a farce, an attempt to hide their own incompetence. Maharashtra and Rajasthan are 2 of the top 3 States based on allocation of #COVID19 Vaccine doses. Both are non-BJP governed States.”

A graphic attached in the tweet reveals that the state of Maharashtra has received 1,06,19,190 doses, which is the highest number of Covid-19 vaccine doses, constituting almost 10% of the total country’s supply. Gujarat and Rajasthan have received 1,05,19,330 and 1,04,95,860 doses respectively.
In a follow-up tweet, he urged certain state governments to not create panic by spreading misinformation. A comprehensive chart released by the Times of India on Thursday revealed that the state of Maharashtra has 15 lakh vaccine doses left in the stock, while it is scheduled to receive 19.4 lakh more doses. Some Twitter users took to the social media platform to question the state government’s decision to shut vaccination centers despite having enough vaccines in stock.

With Maharashtra breaking all the previous records and registering highest spike in cases on a daily basis, shutting down of vaccination centers is only going to make matters worse for the state.
The recent stringent lockdown restrictions imposed in Maharashtra have enraged the trader and hospitality community. Having just started to recover from the severe impact of the previous lockdown, the businesses have once again been thrown off-guard and have been worried about the potential business loss.
As per a Business Today report, the cost of Maharashtra’s lockdown is estimated to be Rs 40,000 crore and will result in a 0.32% dip in India’s GVA growth, as the state is the largest contributor in terms of GSDP.

Several trade associations staged a protest by coming out on roads against the restrictions imposed by the state government.
The shop owners have put up posters outside their closed shops in the Mumbai suburbs. Several posters have been put up by Borivali East Traders Association.

The hospitality community in Mumbai too, has come together to protest against the restrictions imposed on the eateries. What started as a partial lockdown has turned into a full lockdown for many industries. Apart from the weekend lockdown, which is expected to impact businesses heavily, the night curfew from 8 pm is also going to cause major business loss to restaurants and eateries.
The restaurants, cafes and bars in Mumbai have taken to Instagram to trend #MissionRoziRoti where the staff of the restaurants can be seen holding placards with messages such as:
“Abki baar, sirf hum kyu berozgaar?”
“IPL on. Film shoot on. Humne kya gunah kiya?”
“Baari baari sabki baari, fir kyu sirf humari berozgaari?”
“Duniya ko khilane wale aaj khud bhooke soenge.”
“Are we not your family? Then why are you not taking our responsibility?”, read a poster in Marathi.

Over a 100 eateries in Mumbai have participated in this trend. The ones who managed to stay afloat in the last lockdown fear having to shut their businesses permanently this time.
As per the revised guidelines, only essential services are allowed to operate while the hotels, restaurants, cinema halls, theatres, salons, gyms, parlors, and clothing, shoes, toys, jewelry and furniture stores have been ordered to shut shop till April 30.
The state has permitted the eateries for ‘delivery-only’ during the day on weekdays, however, they are ordered to remain shut for weekend curfews.
Final nail in the coffin for the hospitality industry:
The restaurant industry which was just getting back on its feet after suffering heavy losses in the last lockdown and burning capital to revive business despite the loss incurred is expected to take a bad hit again.
As per a report, 20% of the restaurants in multiple states had to shut shop permanently after the first lockdown.
Anurag Katriar, ED & CEO – deGustibus Hospitality P Ltd and the President of National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI) in stated that the Maharashtra’s government’s order to impose a night curfew from 8 pm will badly impact restaurants and eateries because dinner-time is when 75% of the business happens. Further weekends contribute to more than 60% of entire week’s businesses for eateries and restaurants. With night curfew every day, and weekend lockdown, the restaurants may as well shut their business, as the losses incurred will be unsustainable.
Migrant laborers leave Mumbai:
Lack of clarity on the government’s guidelines and the fear of an impending lockdown has forced the migrant laborers in Mumbai to leave the city and head back to their hometowns. Trains at Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus were seen packed with migrant workers heading back home.

A migrant worker speaking to a ANI reporter said, “We are leaving for our hometown in Uttar Pradesh. As of now, there is a night curfew in place. It is very likely that a lockdown will be put into place. To avoid chaos like the previous lockdown, we are travelling back to our native place. Not sure when, whether we will come back here.”
The state government seems to be doing very little to curb fear-mongering and assure the residents of the state.
Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam while speaking to the media said, “Many of them fear that a lockdown will be imposed in the state due to rising Covid cases. However, our state government has no such plans. We do not want businesses or small businessmen to incur losses.”
“Many of them have not even got themselves tested for Covid-19 and have boarded the train illegally. We are looking into the situation. However, I can assure you that none of them can return back to our state without showing a Covid negative report, ” he added.
An official complaint and hundreds of reminders to act on it did not move the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation to take action against the illegal encroachments by Bangladeshi immigrants in Navi Mumbai’s Sanpada neighbourhood, the complainant who complained about the unlawful settlement of Bangladeshis alleged.
A Twitter user Krishna, concerned by the insidious settlement of Bangladeshi immigrants in Sanpada, filed an official complaint with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation last year requesting them to clear the illegal encroachments. In his complaint, he shared pictures and visuals of slums and encroachments by Bangladeshis that cropped up at several locations in Sanpada.

According to the complainant, NNMC Abhijit Bangar took cognisance of the issue and roped in his team to address the concerns raised by him. Every time he sought the status of the complaint he had made concerning illegal encroachment, he was assured that action would be taken in the matter. However, months after filing a complaint with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, the encroachments by Bangladeshi immigrants still exist.
Krishna has been following up with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Mr Abhijit Bangar on his complaint to initiate action against the Bangladeshi encroachers but to no avail. He has, so far, written hundreds of emails, letters and Twitter posts, called up umpteen times to Mr Bangar’s office to bring to attention the lingering issue of illegal encroachment. However, on most occasions, he gets a perfunctory response stating that the matter has been escalated to the subordinate team for action. But, as he suggests, no action has been taken against the illegal encroachment so far.
No action taken by NNMC officials despite hundreds of reminders: Complainant
OpIndia saw the vast email trail between the Twitter user and the NNMC Commissioner and other stakeholders. Ever since the complaint was filed by the user, he has been periodically writing to the NNMC Commissioner, asking for updates on the action taken by his department. Even on Twitter, the complainant has been diligently following up on the matter, and the unusually long Twitter thread is testimony to his efforts.
More than 100 reminder emails have been written by the user, seeking developments in the case. But, all he gets in return is pacifying responses assuring him that his concern has been forwarded to the relevant authorities. Realising that no action is being taken in the case, Krishna also included the office of Maharashtra chief secretary and Union Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri in his email, but even then the NNMC officials displayed no alacrity to clear the illegal encroachments.

The complainant claims Mr Vijay, Personal Assistant to Mr Abhijit Bangar, is intimately aware of the issue. Krishna said on many occasions he was assured by Mr Vijay that he would take up the issue with Mr Bangar, but even then there was no action against the illegal Bangladeshi settlers.
Months after chasing Mr Bangar to get the illegal encroachments cleared, NNMC officials washed their hands off the matter when they informed Krishna that it was not their responsibility to vacate the aforementioned encroachments of Bangladeshis because they were on the CIDCO land. Mr Vijay had reportedly asked the Twitter user to approach CIDCO to get the illegal encroachments removed.

When confronted with the facts that NNMC had earlier partnered with CIDCO to partially remove the encroachments, Mr Vijay, however, still asked the user to lodge his complaint with the CIDCO. The complainant then asked for a written advice and confirmation of from Mr Vijay. However, he is yet to receive any communication from the NNMC over the same.
After passing the matter to scam-tainted Mr Patinigere, Abhijit Bangar reportedly claims he never received a written complaint
For months, Krishna has been painstakingly following up with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, periodically calling them, posting on Twitter and sending emails to urge them to take action against the illegal encroachments. However, all he gets in return is a fake assurance that his grievances will be addressed. He claims the Municipal Commissioner Mr Abhijit Bangar has been only forwarding his complaints to his subordinate deputy commissioner Mr Amrish Patinigere, without displaying any willingness to remove the encroachments.
It is pertinent to note that Mr Amrish Patinigere was earlier accused of misappropriation of civic funds. In 2010, several officials of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), including Mr Patinigere, were accused of helping H.B. Bhise & Co. in getting excess payment of Rs 1.38 crore. The firm was hired by NMMC for demolishing illegal constructions.
Recently, a journalist who stumbled upon the complainant’s protracted Twitter thread called up Mr Abhijit Bangar to confirm if the claims mentioned in the thread add up. However, despite hundreds of email correspondence, umpteen Twitter posts and numerous phone calls by the complainant, Mr Bangar brazenly told the journalist that he is yet to receive a written complaint on the matter.
OpIndia tried to get in touch with Mr Abhijit Bangar repeatedly to ask him about the allegations of dereliction of duty levelled against him and his department by the complainant. However, our several attempts to talk to him failed as his office consistently claimed that Mr Bangar was busy with his meetings. This report will be updated when we get a response from Abhijit Bangar or his office.
