Gujarat: School principal teaches Bhagavad Gita to over 1100 students free of cost, conducts online classes during summer holidays

In Gujarat’s Surat, a Municipal School Principal has been teaching the Bhagavad Gita to more than a thousand students online during their summer vacations. Naresh Mehta, Principal of Sant Dongreji Maharaj Municipal Primary School has taken it upon himself to teach hymns of the Bhagavad Gita to as many as 1,117 students during their summer vacation.

As per a report by DeshGujarat, Naresh Mehta, the Principal voluntarily teaches Bhagavad Gita to school children free of cost during their summer break. For efficient understanding, Mehta translates the Sanskrit verses into local Gujarati and has adapted a simple approach to make students grasp them faster.

Every morning, Naresh Mehta forwards a meeting link to the student group at 10 AM wherein students assemble to learn Shlokas Indic wisdom on a daily basis. His teaching style has become so popular among students that many students outside Surat have also started joining the Bhagavad Gita class.

Mehta told DeshGujarat that even after having a copy of Bhagavad Gita at their homes, very few make an effort to actually read it. He is conducting the online class to ensure that children read the Gita which is already at their homes. After a successful venture among the students, he is now looking forward to making parents join the class with their children.

Apart from taking the Bhagavad Gita initiative, Principal Naresh Mehta has encouraged over 193 girls from the state, who dropped from the school to appear for board exams as external students. Mehta is giving coaching and other assistance to such girls who had quit studying owing to their grave financial condition at home or those who lost their parents due to Covid-19 last year. “So far, I have trained 512 girls and they are now pursuing higher studies. Some have started working,” Mehta claims proudly.

The $ 50 Million defamation case brought by Hollywood legend Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard has brought to the public eye many personal details about the former couple, but DC FIlms would not have expected the trial to reveal spoilers about the next big-budget extravaganza from the franchise.

The trial has so far revealed Amber Heard pooping in Johnny Depp’s bed, Heard cutting Depp’s finger off, Depp loving cocaine and his alcohol, but now it has revealed spoilers of a multi-million dollar film as well.

Entertainment industry consultant Kathryn Arnold, appearing as an expert witness from Amber Heard’s side, may have revealed some major spoilers about Aquaman 2, the next film from the DC extended universe. Arnold took the stand during the court case to highlight the damage caused to Heard’s career by Johnny Depp’s lawyer but in the process ended up sharing more than what DC Films would have liked.

As per Amber Heard’s team, Depp’s lawyer accused Heard of orchestrating an “abuse hoax” against Depp nearly costing Heard the role of Mera in the Aquaman franchise. To emphasize that point, Heard’s lawyers brought in the industry consultant Arnold, who ended up sharing plot points from the next film in the franchise.

During her testimony, Arnold talked about how Amber Heard’s role was reduced in the next film after the accusations from Depp’s side. Arnold said, “I believe that in the first act of the movie, she was injured somehow, or it had something to do with a baby.”

In the comic books, Aquaman (played by Jason Momoa on screen) and Mera (Amber Heard’s character) do indeed get married and have a baby together but the duo hasn’t gotten married on the big screen adaptation yet. Thus, giving fans a major plot point reveal for the next film.

Further, Arnold revealed that Mera ends up in the hospital early on in the film and doesn’t appear again till the end of the film. She also shared how Amber Heard prepared 5 hours a day in preparation for a major action sequence but the scene was cut from the film.

Kathryn Arnold has apparently not seen the script for the film but based her testimony on what Heard told her about the film.

Given how closely guarded are the scripts of the movies based on comic books, and the amount of money riding on these films, fair to say that DC Films will not be pleased in the least by this unexpected leak of the part of their script.

‘Keep him naked, feed meat pieces in jail’: Activist Kishore K Swamy says pro-DMK journalists had instructed cops

Activist Kishore K Swamy, arrested in June 2021, over an alleged ‘defamatory’ post against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief MK Stalin and former DMK leaders Annadurai and M Karunanidhi, has recently taken to Twitter to reveal the treatment meted out to him in jail on the instruction of some DMK-friendly journalists.

On May 22, the YouTuber took to the microblogging site Twitter to disclose how senior journalist M Gunasekaran of Sun TV called the cops and insisted that he be kept in isolation and naked in jail. He added how journalist Karthigaichelvan, the managing director of the Tamil news channel Puthiya Thalaimurai TV directed cops to feed him meat when in jail.

Sharing Swamy’s Tweet that revealed the MK Stalin and his political party’s intolerance towards dissenting voices, another Twitter user @Devi_Uvacha further alleged that Swamy was “given a small mug which he had to use for coffee, water and to wash himself.”

Activist Kishore K Swamy was arrested on charges of inciting communal riots for circulating allegedly ‘defamatory’ posts against DMK leaders

It may be recalled how on June 14, 2021, activist Kishore K Swamy was arrested by the Chennai police over a complaint filed by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) IT Wing coordinator Ravichandran. Swamy runs the Twitter handle @Sansbarrier and has a following of 73.9K.

The DMK IT Wing coordinator, in his complaint dated June 10, accused the activist of attempting to promote feelings of enmity and hatred between different communities, stoke communal violence and riots by circulating allegedly defamatory comments against former Chief Ministers and DMK senior leaders, CN Annadurai and M Karunanidhi and the present Chief Minister MK Stalin.

Swamy, a staunch critic of DMK was arrested under the Goondas Act. He was booked under IPC Sections-153(provoking with intent to cause riot), 505(1) (b) (Causing fear or alarm to the public, or to any section of the public whereby any person may be induced to commit an offence against the State or against the public tranquillity) and 505(1)(c) (Whoever makes, publishes or circulates any statement or report containing rumour or alarming news with intent to create or promote, or which is likely to create or promote feelings of enmity, hatred or ill-will between different religious, racial, language or regional groups or castes or communities).

Notably, this particular arrest was the third time Swamy had been arrested. Twice earlier, he was released immediately.

Following the arrest of the activist, Netizens were outraged and called out the incumbent CM of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin and other DMK leaders for trying to stifle voices of dissent in the state.

Sun TV editor M Gunasekaran resigns from News 18 Tamil Nadu following Vlogger Maridhas’ expose

Speaking about, M Gunasekaran, the journalist joined Sun TV after he quit News 18 Tamil Nadu in 2020 following allegations of political bias from YouTuber Maridhas. Sun TV is considered to be a mouthpiece of MK Stalin’s DMK party. It is owned by Kalanithi Maran, the grandnephew of DMK president M Karunanidhi.

M Gunasekaran was compelled to resign from News 18 after YouTuber Maridhas had filed a complaint with News 18’s management in New Delhi, stating that several Tamil channel journalists and editors, including Gunasekaran, were direct or indirect supporters of Dravida Kazhagam (DK) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Maridhas further claimed that the network took an anti-Hindu stance. The channel then filed a police complaint as well as a defamation suit in the Madras High Court. Maridhas was ordered by the court to remove all videos against the channel. Two days after the court’s directions, however, Gunasekaran resigned and joined Sun TV.

Youtuber Maridhas arrested by the DMK out of vendetta

Here it becomes imperative to note that a few months after Maridhas questioned biased coverage of news events by News18 through an expose on his video channel, the Chennai police went after the popular YouTuber. He was first arrested by the cybercrime police in Madurai, Tamil Nadu on December 9 following his social media post where he remarked on the Coonoor chopper crash in which the Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and 13 others were killed.

He had inquired if Tamil Nadu was “becoming into Kashmir” under the DMK’s control in a Tweet that he later deleted.

In another Tweet, Maridhas alleged that many DMK supporters have been posting emojis mocking the death of an army commander in the accident.

Following his social media posts, the Madurai police had gone to his house in Surya Nagar of K Pudur in Tamil Nadu and arrested him under serious sedition and other laws at the behest of the DMK government.

Days after the aforementioned FIR against journalist Maridhas was quashed by the Madras HC, the Tamil Nadu state had gone on to arrest the journalist yet again – this time it was over an old video where he was seen criticising Tablighi Jamaat. Maridhas’ arrest was under the FIR on a complaint filed by an office-bearer of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam for his YouTube post linking Tablighi Jamaat members to the coronavirus outbreak in India. The FIR was filed on 4th August 2020.

The intriguing ensemble of the Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah show has been delighting the audience for over 14 years. Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah fans have been anticipating the return of one of their favourite characters, Dayaben. She did quit the programme in 2017 when she went on maternity leave. While many anticipated her to return within a few months, she never did. 

The viewers have been missing Jethalal and Daya’s humorous chit chat and connection for a long time. Disha Vakani, who plays Dilip Joshi’s onscreen wife, took up the role. Her unique accent, as well as her sharp sense of humour, managed to win hearts.   

However, it appears like the fans’ patience may be coming to an end very soon. The producers have seemingly opted to bring Dayaben back to the show in response to popular requests. In a recent interview with ET, the show’s producer, Asit Kumar Modi, announced that Dayaben will be on the show shortly. He also disclosed that there are plans to bring Dayaben back to the show this year.

He stated that they have no reason not to bring Dayaben’s character back. “…we all have faced difficult times in the recent past. 2020-21 was a very tough phase for all of us. But now that things have got better, in 2022 koi bhi acche Samay par we are going to bring back the character of Dayaben and the audience will once again get to see the entertainment of Jethalal and Daya Bhabhi,” Asit Modi stated.

Answering if Disha Vakani will make a comeback to the show, he said, “I don’t know yet if Disha Vakani will be back as Dayaben. We still have a very good relationship with Disha Ji, we are like a family. But now she is married and has a kid and everyone gets busy with their own responsibilities.”

“We all have our personal life, so I won’t be able to comment on that. Lekin joh bhi Disha Ben or Nisha Ben but you will surely get to Dayaben and we as a team will try our best to give the same entertainment that we gave you before,” he added.

Madhya Pradesh: Son of Congress leader drives in a drunken state, and rams the vehicle of a businessman, read details

On Saturday (May 21), the son of a Congress leader allegedly rammed his SUV onto the vehicle of an Indore-based businessman and later fled from the crime scene. The incident took place in the Sehore city of Madhya Pradesh.

The accused was identified as Rohitap Singh, the son of Congress leader Hukum Singh Karada. As per reports, Singh was driving his car in a drunken state. He ended up hitting the vehicle that was carrying businessman Dinesh Ahuja and his associates from Bhopal to Indore.

A video of the incident has now surfaced on social media. In the video clip, Rohitap Singh could be seen with a glass of liquor. On being confronted by Ahuja, the Congress leader’s son refused to hand over his keys or go to the police station.

Instead, Singh accelerated his car, rammed into Ahuja’s vehicle again and fled from the crime scene. Following the incident, the victim lodged a complaint at the Sehore police station.

A First Information Report (FIR) was then registered against the son of the Congress leader under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 294 (Obscene acts and songs), 352 (Punishment for assault or criminal force) and Section 184 (Driving dangerously) of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

While speaking about the matter, a police official informed, “On May 21, Police received info & reached there. A man was brought to Police Station. FIR registered. Action being taken”

Reportedly, the police received information about a road accident at around 10:30 pm on Saturday (May 21) night. The accused had tried to mow down several people but ultimately ended up hitting the vehicle of Dinesh Ahuja. The police have now launched a probe into the matter.

Odisha: Church in Bhadrak sealed after complaints of forceful conversions of tribals to Christianity, section 144 imposed

On Tuesday, the district administration in Odisha’s Bhadrak took swift action over the complaints of religious conversions of innocent tribals to Christianity. The administration sealed the Church in Geluta, imposed Section 144 in the area, and issued orders allowing not more than three persons to gather in the vicinity of the church.

This is after the administration received several complaints about local innocent tribals being forcibly converted to Christianity. According to the reports, a joint inquiry made by the Executive Magistrate and IIC of Rural PS revealed that the peace between the communities around the Church situated at Geltua village under Bhadrak Block of Odisha was disturbed.

“There were complaints regarding tribals being converted to Christianity. We found out that there is some breach of peace between communities. District administration has enforced Section 144 in Geltua, three persons are allowed to gather in the vicinity of the Church,” said Manoj Patra, Sub Collector of Bhadrak.

Past instances of forced religious conversions in Odisha

This is not the first time when the incident of religious conversion to Christianity has come to light in the state of Odisha. Earlier, in September 201, a Christian priest was detained by a group of villagers over charges of forced conversion in Tangardihi village in the Sundargarh district of Odisha. The priest, identified as Mahendra Sahu, was a regular visitor to the Tangardihi village. According to the villagers, he would come to the village in a bid to convert Hindus to Christianity.

Also, in the year 2018, a man was mercilessly beaten up by his Christian wife and mother-in-law in Odisha’s Gajapati district after he refused to convert to Christianity. Victim Thabir Panda and their wife Surabhi had lawfully married each other in Bhawanipatna court in 2014. Thabir’s refusal to renounce Hinduism post his marriage had resulted in continuous differences between the couple. Reportedly, Panda was attacked by Surabhi and her mother for refusing to convert to Christianity.

In the present case, the Bhadrak administration has sealed the gates of the Church located at Geltua village, imposed Section 144 in the area, and issued orders to allow three persons to gather in the vicinity of the church.

10 years after allegedly orchestrating an attack on an Israeli diplomat in India, Iranian Colonel assassinated outside his Tehran home

Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodaei, a senior member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was shot dead outside his home in Tehran on Sunday, 22nd May 2022. Khodaei, a member of the shadowy Quds Force of IRGC, was killed in his car, a Kia Pride, outside his home by 2 unidentified people on a motorcycle.

Following his assassination, Israeli media has shared that he was the alleged mastermind behind a car bombing targeting an Israeli diplomat in the Indian capital New Delhi back in 2012.

The Assasination of Khodaei

IRGC Colonel Hassan Sayyad Khodaei was killed by unidentified gunmen outside of his home in Tehran on Sunday. Khodaei had gotten into his car outside his home when he was shot dead by two unidentified assailants. Iranian state television reported that security forces are pursuing the assailants behind the killing.

Following the assassination, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi promised a strong response to the killing. Raisi said, “I insist on the serious pursuit of the killers by security officials, and I have no doubt that the blood of this great martyr will be avenged.” Raisi also said that ‘global arrogance’ could be behind the murder of the IRGC Colonel. Global arrogance is usually a code to refer to USA and Israel in Iran.

Attack on an Israeli diplomat in India

Back in 2012, a motorcycle rider came from behind and attached a bomb to an Israeli diplomat’s car in New Delhi. 4 people were injured in the blast that followed including the diplomat who was named Tal Yehoshua Koren. She was on her way to pick up her children from school when the blast was orchestrated. The attack took place near the official Prime Minister’s residence in India.

Israel firmly believed that Quds Force was behind the attack, though Iran denied any involvement. At the same time as the attack in India, a bomb was found beneath an Israeli diplomat’s car in Tbilisi, Georgia, which was defused.

As per Iran International, Khodaei was the mastermind of that attack in New Delhi and attempted several similar operations elsewhere in the world.

This has not been the only incident of a terror attack against Israelis in India. Early in 2021, there was a blast near the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi which was also suspected to be a terror attack.

What is Quds Force

Quds Force is one of the five branches of the all-powerful Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps which specializes in covert operations outside Iran. This unit trains, finances and provides assistance to several extremist groups overseas. Quds Force has been allegedly supporting terrorists across the Middle East from supporting Hezbollah in Lebanon to Houthis in Yemen. They have also been accused of backing Shi’ite terrorists in Iraq, Palestine, and Syria, among several other countries.

As Karnataka releases final copy of revised history textbook, Congress and Leftists join hands to launch protests alleging ‘saffronisation’

The Congress party and leftist organisations have joined hands to protest against the supposed ‘saffronisation’ of school textbooks in BJP-ruled Karnataka. The development comes a day after the Primary & Secondary Education Department of the State published the final revised copy of social sciences and Kannada textbooks.

The Opposition, backed by NGOs and leftists, will hold demonstrations at the Bengaluru’s Freedom Park on May 31 this year. They have alleged that the Karnataka government had included a speech by RSS founder KB Hedgewar in the history textbook and omitted lessons on tyrant Tipu Sultan, Periyar, Narayana Guru and freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.

The organisations that are at the forefront of the protests include the Student Federation of India (SFI), the All India Student Federation (AISF), the National Student Union of India (NSUI) and others.

Even the Campus Front of India, which was behind the recent Hijab controversy in Karnataka, has already begun mobilising people against the decision of the BJP government.

The alliance of Opposition, leftists and Islamists have demanded the rollback of the revised textbooks, along with the termination of the Textbook Revision Committee that is led by Rohith Chakrathirtha.

This is despite the fact that 78% of textbooks have already been printed while the remaining work will be completed in 2 weeks’ time by the Karnataka Textbook Society. The primary accusation against the BJP is that it is ‘saffronising’ and ‘Brahmanising’ the academic curriculum in government schools.

Allegations and Clarifications provided by the Karanataka Education Minister

BC Nagesh, the Education Minister of Karnataka, has rubbished the allegations levelled against the BJP. He has accused the Opposition of being unable to tolerate that the BJP is prioritising education in the State.

“During the Siddaramaiah-headed Congress government, the syllabus was said to be a burden. The teachers complained that they couldn’t cover the syllabus in one year. No lessons on revolutionaries Narayan Guru, and Bhagat Singh have been dropped. False propaganda is being taken up on social media and otherwise,” he informed.

While speaking about the controversy over Periyar, he clarified, “A few lines have been deleted about social reformer Periyar. The present syllabus says, Lord Ram belongs to the Vaidik culture and Ravan belongs to the Dravidian culture. Should the students be taught about this?” the minister said.

BC Nagesh defended the decision to include a speech by the RSS founder in the history textbook. “He joined the revolutionary movement and he was also with the Nagpur Congress Movement, that is why his speech has been included,” he stated.

“The PDFs of the textbooks that went viral are unverified and the hard copy is the final one. The Congress and other opposition parties jumped the gun without reading the content properly,” he added.

“The changes were made to select portions of Kannada and history textbooks, where the previous committee headed by Barguru Ramchandrappa had got certain facts wrong. Moreover, the lesson on Narayan Guru has been transferred from the history to the Kannada textbook because students were overburdened with a lot of history lessons,” BC Nagesh emphasised.

He has also dismissed claims that the BJP is ‘Brahmanising’ the academic curriculum. He pointed out that the Opposition had begun identifying literature with caste. We are working to provide knowledge that is based on content and not caste,” he said.

BC Nagesh also pointed out how during the Congress era, lessons on Tipu Sultan were increased from 1 to 6 pages while the syllabus on Mysore Maharajas was reduced. “The new committee has included portions highlighting the contribution of Mysore Maharajas (Wadiyar dynasty) in their fight against the British,” he concluded.

On Monday, the Kerala High Court stated that small children need to be shielded against political indoctrination, which has permanent long-term repercussions.

While hearing a case involving the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO), Justice Gopinath P of the Kerala HC mentioned that he had seen a “provocative” video of a kid “spewing hatred” in a political rally. He pondered if it was allowed to force kids as young as 5 or 6 years old to engage in political or religious demonstrations and to shout slogans of any type.

“Are they not fostering a new generation that grows up with this religious hatred in mind? I am just wondering about the fact that when this child grows and he becomes a major, his mind will already be conditioned to this kind of rhetoric. Something must be done,” he remarked.

Under the guise of freedom of speech and religion, can young children be made to be a part of political rallies or religious rallies, he asked. “He does not know what he is saying,” Justice Gopinath stated, adding that children don’t have the legal right to vote or even drive until they reach the age of 18. He also asked if there was any legislation preventing such behaviour.

Children should be safeguarded from overt situations that might negatively affect their susceptible brains, Justice Gopinath noted, adding that children should not be allowed to participate in demonstrations or sloganeering.

Notably, a video recently went viral on social media showing a juvenile boy shouting hostile slogans while sitting on a man’s shoulders at a march organised by the Popular Front of India (PFI) in Alappuzha, Kerala. One is well aware of how PFI is constantly on the radar of intelligence agencies for terrorism and anti-national actions.

On May 5 also, the Kerala HC had stated that the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) are extremist organisations, which have not yet been banned in India. The Kerala High Court further noted that both SDPI and PFI have a history of attacking members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

Mathura: Plea filed for ‘purification’ of Shahi Idgah complex, petitioner says the site is sanctum sanctorum of Thakur Keshav Dev’s temple

A petitioner in the Shri Krishna Janmasthan-Shahi Idgah Masjid dispute has sought permission from a local court in Mathura to perform ‘purification’ of the Shahi Idgah complex, alleging that the sanctum sanctorum of Thakur Keshav Dev’s temple was located there.

The application was presented by Dinesh Kaushik of the All India Hindu Mahasabha. Kaushik has requested permission for purification of the sanctum sanctorum with Ganga and Yamuna water.

Through the petition, Kaushik asserted to be a Sanatani Hindu whose feelings have been hurt by the construction of the disputed Idgah. Deepak Sharma, the counsel of the petitioner stated, “The petitioner, Dinesh Chandra Sharma, wants to revive the sanctity of sanctum sanctorum inside Shahi Masjid Idgah by purifying the divine place with the holy water of Ganga and Yamuna.”

The plea reads, “The disputed property, the alleged Idgah,  was the sanctum sanctorum of Thakur Ji (temple) and plaintiff no. 2 wishes that plaintiff no. 2 should purify the sanctum sanctorum with Ganga water and Yamuna water so that the goal of plaintiff no. 2’s life will be accomplished.”

Emphasizing this, Kaushik has requested that the Court issue an order prohibiting the defendant parties (Sunni Waqf Board and others) from interfering with the purifying of the alleged Sanctum Santorum by water from the rivers Ganga and Yamuna.

The parties in the case are the UP Sunni Central Waqf Board, the Intezamia committee Shahi Masjid Idgah, the Sri Krishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan, and the Srikrishna Janmabhumi trust.

Several petitions have been filed in Mathura court asking for the destruction of the Shahi Idgah mosque, which the Hindu side claims was erected on the site of the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple.

Dinesh Kaushik, National Treasurer of All India Hindu Mahasabha, has filed another petition with Civil Judge Senior Division Mathura on 18 May, requesting permission to consecrate Laddu Gopal at Shahi Idgah. After approving his appeal, the court scheduled the next hearing for July 1.

Previously, another petition was filed in Mathura court, seeking that the Shahi Idgah Masjid be sealed and security be provided to preserve Hindu religious artefacts from vandalism following the discovery of the Shivling from the Gyanvapi complex in Varanasi.

The Mathura Court, in allowing a petition for the removal of the Shahi Idgah disputed structure near Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura, also noted that the Places of Worship Act, 1991 is not applicable to the suit, because the suit was originally filed in 1964, and the current 2020 suit challenges a ‘compromise agreement’ signed in 1968, years before the Places of Worship Act came into force in 1991.
