Watch: Mob attacks Mumbai police in Kurla as they go to enforce lockdown, no arrests made yet

The Mumbai Police has filed an FIR under section 353,188 and 269 of the Indian Penal Code against one person for attacking the police in Kurla. On the 29th of April, a police team was attacked while the team was on Coronavirus related enforcement duty in Kurla Pipeline area. Despite the FIR being filed, no arrests have been made yet by the Mumbai Police in the matter.

Earlier, a video of the mob attack on the police had gone viral on social media. In the video, a mob primarily belonging to the Muslim community can be seen heckling and abusing the police as they were in the Kurla pipeline area for Coronavirus related enforcement duty.

In the video, it is evident that an argument has broken out between the police team and the residents of the locality, predominantly Muslims, and that led to people assaulting and abusing the police team.

At about the 15-16 second mark in the video, a man can be seen assaulting the police team. Towards the end of the video as well, one can see a resident hurling abuses at the police team from his apartment.

It is pertinent to note that several such cases have erupted across the country, where Muslim mobs were booked for assaulting and abusing police teams for enforcing lockdown amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.

A team of police personnel and district officials were attacked by locals in Meerut’s Jali Kothi when they reached there to seal a part of the area following a confirmation about presence of coronavirus patients in a mosque in the area. The agitated crowd was subsequently pacified and the entire area was cordoned off. Subsequently, 4 people including the Imam was arrested in the case.

Earlier, two policemen on lockdown enforcement duty were also injured after a mob attacked them with knives and in Bhopal’s old city area on Monday night. The police team was asking the residents to stay indoors when they were attacked by a group led by Shahid Qureshi alias Kabootar. A resident of Islampura, he jumped from a building to escape arrest but was injured in the process. 

At a time when the healthcare workers, policemen are risking their lives to limit the spread of the Chinese epidemic, there have been concerted attacks against them by some anti-social elements refusing to obey lockdown and follow protocols to check the disease spread.

We had reported a series of incidents where violent mobs had unleashed violence against frontline workers at a time when they are risking their lives to limit the spread of the Chinese epidemic.

On Saturday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accused Tablighi Jamaat of being responsible for the nationwide surge in coronavirus cases across the country. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said the people linked to Tablighi Jamaat worked as “carriers” of coronavirus infection.

Speaking at E-agenda AajTak, Yogi Adityanath said what Tablighi Jamaat did was a criminal act and actions should be taken against them accordingly. Yogi Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh received around 3,000 people linked to Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi.

“What Tablighi Jamaat did was condemnable. Had they not behaved in that manner, the country would have managed the coronavirus situation during the first phase of lockdown,” Yogi Adityanath said as he spoke to Aaj Tak reporter Shweta Singh.

The UP chief minister also categorically stated, “To get a disease is not a crime. But to hide illness like coronavirus was definitely a crime. We will take action against those who have broken the law”.

Tablighi Jamaat committed crime by hiding information: UP Chief Minister

Meanwhile, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath speaking to ABP News said that nearly 1000 cases in the state were related Nizamuddin Markaz. Yogi Adityanath said that the coronavirus spread in the state because the Tablighi Jamaat members had hidden the fact of being positive to coronavirus.

They went to different places in India and this led to the steep rise in the number of coronavirus positive cases, UP Chief Minister said.

Despite Tablighi Jamaat acting as a carrier for the coronavirus across the country, the state of Uttar Pradesh under Yogi Adityanath has done a relatively good job in containing the spread of the pandemic despite being the most populous state and also having a large number of Muslim population in the state.

In Uttar Pradesh, a total of 2,328 people had tested positive for the Wuhan Coronavirus. Of these patients, 654 have recovered, while the disease has claimed 42 lives in the state.

Tablighi Jamaat members – a nightmare to frontline workers in the state

At a time when the healthcare workers, policemen are risking their lives to limit the spread of the Chinese epidemic, there have been concerted attacks against them by Tablighi Jamaat attendees. The attacks on the frontline workers by Muslim mobs have continued ever since the reports that Tablighi Jamaat is the primary sources of transmission of coronavirus in the country emerged.

In addition to the nuisance created by Muslim mobs, the Tablighi Jamaat members, who have emerged as the sole reason for the sudden spike in the number of coronavirus cases in India, are turning out to be quite a headache for the authorities. The anti-social behaviour of attendees of Tablighi Jamaat has left the authorities and medical teams completely distraught.

From attacking medical teams who were searching for Tablighi members for who had attended the religious congregation to check them for possible infection, to spiting on doctors at Isolation centres, to roaming naked in their ward and making lewd gestures for female staff, these attendees have been displaying extreme crassness.

Uttar Pradesh has seen a number of attacks by Tablighi Jamaat members who have been creating nuisance in cities including Kanpur, Agra, Ghaziabad and various other cities

Nizamuddin Markaz – the epicenter of coronavirus transmission in the country

The Tablighi Jamaat congregation, which took place in Nizamuddin Markaz in the first half of March, has become the mega-spreader of coronavirus in India, as many as more than one-third cases in India are linked to that event now. The persons who had attended the event, and their family members and those who came into contact with them are testing positive regularly, contributing the increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the country.

The Tablighi Jamaat event was not only attended by Indian Islamic clerics but also foreign nationals. The alarm bells should have started ringing when seven Indonesian nationals associated with the organization tested positive for the Wuhan Coronavirus in Telangana after travelling from Delhi to Karimnagar for an Ijtema. However, it was only later that the full scope of the Tablighi Jamaat’s contribution to the spreading of the virus became prominent when nearly 300 Jamaatis in the Delhi’s Banglewali Masjid had to be taken to hospital for suspected coronavirus symptoms, many testing positive eventually.

Delhi riots: Delhi High Court appoints Justice Sunil Gaur as Claims Commissioner to recover damages from the rioters

The Delhi High Court has appointed a claims commissioner to look into the extent of damage done to public property by mobs during the anti-Hindu Delhi riots in north-east Delhi.

According to the reports, the Delhi High Court has appointed retired Justice Sunil Gaur as the Claims Commissioner to estimate the damage caused and also investigate the liability of public property that had been damaged during the anti-Hindu riots that occurred in the national capital.

The High Court appointed the Claims Commissioner after the Delhi government had written a letter seeking approval for the appointment. This was done in reference to the judgment of the Supreme Court which had ruled that damage to public and private property must be recovered from perpetrators. Delhi govt had written to Delhi Hich Court io March 9 to appoint the claims commissioner.

In the letter to the High Court, Delhi govt had written that “during these anti-CAA/NRC protests, there has been massive and extensive damage of public and private property including public transportation, causing huge losses to government exchequer.”

Justice Gaur along with his team will evaluate the cost of damages done to public and private property during the riots and recover the same from people identified by the police as ‘rioters’ by initiating legal proceedings to recover the damages. In case the accused fail to pay, stringent action will be taken by the concerned authorities. The Claims Commissioner’s tenure has been fixed for six months, which may be extended in required.

Delhi to follow Uttar Pradesh to recover damages

Delhi seems to be following in the footsteps of Uttar Pradesh to collect the damages to the public properties from the rioters. Soon after the violence unleashed by the Muslim mobs in the Uttar Pradesh under the guise of protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Uttar Pradesh government had a similar initiative to send notices to at least 400 people who were identified as ‘rioters’ to recover damages to properties.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced tough measures to combat the anti-citizenship amendment act (CAA) rioters and promised to seize the property of every rioter and use its funds to repair the damaged public property.

The Uttar Pradesh government led by Yogi Adityanath had also walked the talk on their promise of making rioters pay for damaging the public property in the state as Muslim residents of Bulandshahr was made to pay over Rs 6 lakh to the district magistrate.

Anti-Hindu riots in Delhi

On the day of US President Donald Trump’s visit to India in February, the national capital had witnessed large-scale violence under the garb of anti-CAA protests. The anti-CAA riots turned communal in Delhi resulting in severe violence on the streets of  Delhi. The anti-Hindu riots that engulfed the streets of Delhi have resulted in deaths of around 53 persons and more than 250 people sustained injuries in the violence.

The riots cost huge losses to life and property. Over the course of the investigation, the role of Radical Islamist organization PFI and others came to the fore. 

Earlier, JNU student leader Umar Khalid was booked under UAPA in a case related to the anti-Hindu riots in Delhi. Two other leaders from the Jamia Coordination Committee, Meeran Haider and Safoora Zargar were booked under the same Act. The two are now in judicial custody after they were arrested last week. The Police had claimed in the FIR that the communal violence was a “premeditated conspiracy” by Khalid and others.

On Friday, the relatives of a 56-year-old Coronavirus patient named Akhtari Begum vandalised Sagar Dutta Hospital and Medical College at Kamarhati in North 24 Parganas in West Bengal, after the patient died in the hospital.

The woman was rushed to the hospital after she complained of breathing problems. Following her death, the irked relatives smashed the glass windows and ransacked the emergency ward. A number of healthcare workers were also attacked by the unruly mob and some of them were injured.


The cops posted at the said hospital were outnumbered by the deceased’s friends and family. As such, a large contingent of the police force from Belghoria police station was sent to pacify the chaotic situation at the hospital.

The woman was a resident of Kamarhati area, and she was admitted at the hospital on Thursday after she was having severe breathing trouble and her condition was serious. As her symptoms indicated COVID-19, she was kept at the isolation ward. But her condition didn’t improve, and looking at this her relatives got agitated and started quarrelling with the hospital staff. They also called more people to the hospital, and by that time the patient died on Friday. After that, the assembled relatives of the patient started vandalising the hospital. After vandalising the emergency ward, they had also tried to damage the isolation ward, but that ward was saved by the efforts of doctors and other staff in the hospital.

According to the hospital sources, patient Akhtari Begum had diabetes, which had complicated her situation.

It may be noted that the Superintendent of Sagar Dutta hospital Palash Das is in quarantine at present along with 17 doctors, as they had come into contact of two Coronavirus positive patients. Talking to Anandabazar Patrika over phone, Das said that such attacks will lower the morale of healthcare workers. He said that like everyone else healthcare workers are also worried about Coronavirus, with that if they are attacked, it will be difficult for them work. He said that the doctors tried their best to save the patient, but could no as her condition was very serious.

Medics under threat

Ever since the outbreak of the Wuhan Coronavirus, incidents of misbehaviour and violence against doctors and medical staff have risen sharply. In one such incident, a team of doctors and medical staff was attacked by a mob in the Haji Neb Masjid area in Moradabad when they went to take away two persons suspected of having novel Coronavirus in the area.

The mob pelted stones at the ambulance and doctors. The stones were also pelted on the police van which came to rescue the health workers later. Several people were injured in the ensuing mayhem, including Dr Sudhish Agrawal.

Government brings ordinance to protect doctors

Amidst the ongoing assaults on the frontline health workers, policemen during the ongoing coronavirus lockdown, the central government has brought in a timely ordinance to deter the unruly mob. The new ordinance has provisions to punish the assaulters with imprisonment from 6 months to 7 years.

“Health workers who are trying to save the country from this epidemic are unfortunately facing attacks. No incident of violence or harassment, against them, will be tolerated,” Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said while briefing the media. The investigation will be done within 30 days and the accused could face a jail term from 3 months to 5 years with a penalty of Rs 50,000 which could go up to Rs 2 lakh.

Karnataka: 11 people arrested in Kolar for offering Namaz during lockdown

As many as 11 people have been arrested by Kolar police in Karnataka for violating rules of lockdown by assembling and offering Namaz prayers in a Masjid.

According to the reports, a group of Muslims had gathered at a masjid in Kolar to offer Asar Namaz even as religious congregations have been banned due to the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus. The masjid is located on the Municipal Hospital Road, Kolar.

However, the Tehsildar of Kolar, Shobita and a team of police officers sprung into action and reached the spot immediately. The officers had reached near the mosque after the local citizens had complained to them regarding the violation of lockdown rules by a few Muslims in the area by assembling at the local mosque.

The lady police officer entered the mosque and explained those who had assembled there the importance of social distancing. All the 11 members have been taken into the custody. A case has been registered in Kolar City police station in this regard.

The video of Tehsildar Shobita entering the mosque and talking to the devotees there have gone viral on social media, as is it rare for woman to enter mosques like this. Social media users are applauding the courage of the police officer shown to perform her duties.

Speaking to the media, Tehsildar Shobita said that the Muslim group had violated the national lockdown by assembling for a religious activity despite there have been strict order banning it.

Although the extended lockdown that will come into force from Monday will have lots of relaxations, religious congregations will still remain prohibited in all zones. Kolar is in the green zone as no coronavirus case has been detected in the district so far.

Karnataka: IAS officer hails Tablighi Jamaat as ‘heroes’, abuses media for not covering alleged positive deeds, gets show-cause notice

On Friday, the Karnataka government issued a show-cause notice to an IAS officer over his controversial tweet after he had praised Tablighi Jamaat members for allegedly donating plasma for treatment of other patients. According to the reports, on April 27, IAS officer Mohammad Mohsin had posted a tweet hailing Tablighis Jamaat members as “heroes” and had targetted the media for exposing their crimes of spreading coronavirus across the country.

In his tweet, Mohammad Mohsin had lamented over lack of news coverage of Tablighi Jamaat members who had allegedly donated plasma to aid in the fight against coronavirus.

“More than 300 Tablighi heroes are donating their plasma to serve the country in New Delhi only. What about it? Godi Media? They will not show you the works of humanity done by these heroes,” the senior official had tweeted. The tweet has been deleted now.

A 1996 batch IAS officer from Karnataka cadre hailing from Bihar, Mohsin is currently serving as a secretary in the Backward Class Welfare Department.

Adverse tweet noted by the government

“The adverse coverage this tweet has got in the media has been taken note of seriously by the government, given the serious nature of COVID-19 and the sensitivities involved,” the notice said about the IAS officer and his tweet on Tablighi Jamaat.

The government has sought a written explanation from the officer within five days for violating the All India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968. The government has warned of action against Mohsin as per the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969 if he fails to submit his reply before the deadline.

“The Karnataka government has made it clear that it would not hesitate to act even against powerful functionaries if their actions are damaging to the harmony in the state at a time when all are united in fighting COVID-19,” a senior state bureaucrat said to the media.

Mohammad Mohsin was suspended last year for violating rules

The senior IAS officer, Mohammad Mohsin was in news last year after he was suspended by the Election Commission as he had tried to inspect Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s helicopter during his visit to Odisha in April. He was deployed as a poll observer.

He was deployed in Odisha as a general observer, where had led a search party to inspect PM Modi’s helicopter in Odisha’s Sambalpur. The bravado of the officer was in “violation” of norms for dealing with SPG protectees and he was suspended on 17 April.

Delhi Police books Minorities Commission Chairman Zafarul Islam for sedition, had hailed Zakir Naik, celebrated hounding of Hindus in UAE

On Thursday, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police reportedly booked Zafarul Islam, Chairman of Delhi Minorities Commission, for sedition (IPC Section 124A) and promoting religious animosity (IPC Section 153A).

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Zafarul, following a complaint by a Vasant Kunj resident who took a strong objection to the provocative statement made by the Chairman of the Delhi Minorities Commission on April 28.

The complainant alleged that the contentious comments were intended to create disharmony and rift in society. “I have not seen the FIR. I will comment only when I see it or know about it,” Zafarul Islam was quoted as saying.

Zafarul Islam threatens Hindus

On Tuesday, Islam shared a provocative post on Facebook to thank Kuwait for “standing with the Indian Muslims” and attacked Hindus by referring to them as “Hindutva bigots”, who according to him miscalculated the reaction of the Arab world about the “persecution of Muslims in India”.

Shockingly, the Delhi Minority Commission chairman hailed notorious radical Islamist and terror sympathiser Zakir Naik in his post as he claimed people like Naik are respectful household names in the Arab region and Muslim world.

“Mind you, bigots, Indian Muslims have opted until now not to complain to the Arab and Muslim world about your hate campaigns and lynchings and riots. The day they are pushed to do that, bigots will face avalanche,” he added.

Zafaraul Islam apologises

On May 1, Islam tendered an apology, saying that his tweet was “ill-timed” and “insensitive” in light of the Wuhan Coronavirus outbreak. While apologising, he claimed that the matter was blown “out of proportion”

Zafrul Islam further accused the media of fabricating and distorting hi statements. He added that the would continue to defend India on crucial issues as doing otherwise would be against the Constitution and his religious beliefs.

Slammed by National Minorities Commission

In a video message earlier, the National Commission of Minorities Chairman Ghayorul Hasan Rizvi stated, “National minorities Commission condemns the statements made by Zafarul Islam which are divisive in nature. Zafarul Islam should not have forgotten that people of all religions have been living in harmony for centuries and have faced all calamities together.”

Rizvi also stated that Zafarul Islam should remember that despite vehement opposition from an Islamic nation like Pakistan, many Arab nations have honoured our PM Modi with the highest civilian awards of their countries. Rizvi added that strict action should be taken against Zafarul Islam for his hateful comments.

However, there have been certain occasions where he is the only journalist speaking the truth. For instance, he was exposing the notorious pedophile Jeffery Epstein years ago when mainstream media networks were busy covering it up. Five more arrested in Palghar lynching case, 115 arrested so far

Five more people have been arrested in the Palghar lynching case which is being investigated by the Crime Investigation Department of Maharashtra Police.

As per an official, the total number of arrested people in the Palghar lynching case of two seers and their driver to 115.

The authorities filed an FIR against the villagers on the day of the incident and 110 people including 9 juveniles were arrested 101 were sent to judicial custody till April 30 while the juveniles sent to the juvenile shelter home. Later Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh released the name of those who were arrested.

Palghar Lynching case

On 16th April 2020, two Seers associated with the Juna Akhara, 70-year-old Kalpavrishka Giri Maharaj, and 35-year-old Sushil Giri Maharaj along with their driver 30-year-old Nilesh Telgadewere were on their way from Mumbai to Gujarat to give Samadhi to another Sadhu. At Gadakchinchale village, a wild and frenzied crowd of over more than 100 people attacked them. The villagers deemed them as thieves and started attacking them. The police claim that their team which had rushed to the spot to rescue the 70-year-old man also came under the attack of the violent mob.

But later videos emerged which completely debunked the claim of police, as it was seen that the sadhus were in the custody of the police, but the police personnel handed them over to the mob. The mob then proceeded them to beat them to death in front of the policemen.

A clash broke out between police and locals on Thursday evening amidst the Wuhan coronavirus lockdown in Panchmahal of Godhra. As per reports, the police went to barricade the marked containment zone as a safety measure.

Superintendent of Police, Leena Patil revealed that the barricading was done in the containment zone by the civic authorities when the locals confronted the police and later started pelting stones. The police team had gone to barricade the Guhya Mohalla near Zahur market in Godhra as it has been declared a containment zone. But when the locals opposed this, and they clashed with police. The locals started attacking the police team by pelting stones on them after that. Police Inspector MP Pandya sustained a minor injury on his head due to the stone-pelting.

To control the situation police had to use tear gas. Patil said, “We used tear gas as a measure to control the situation. At the moment, the situation is under control.”

Coronavirus in Gujrat

The total number of Wuhan coronavirus infected people in Gujarat has reached 4385 with a surge of 313 new cases of coronavirus infection have been reported in the last 24 hours in Gujarat. In 24 hours, 17 people have been died due to disease, and 86 people recovered and discharged. In total 613 recovered and 214 declared dead due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
