Javed Akhtar’s daughter Zoya Akhtar promotes Jamia ‘shero’ Aysha Renna, who condemned Yakub Memon hanging, through her production ‘Tiger Baby Films’ Instagram

Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar’s filmmaker daughter Zoya Akhtar, through her film production company ‘Tiger Baby Films’ has promoted Jamia ‘shero’ Aysha Renna, who has now extended support to Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam.

In an Instagram picture posted on 13th January, 2019, Tiger Baby Films glorifies Renna as “Fearless, determined, unstoppable: Tigress Ayesha Renna. #SheRoars”. Zoya Akhtar’s film production company further describes Renna as “During the anti-CAA protests in Jamia Millia Islamia College, Delhi, the history student shielded a young man from being attacked by brute forces like a true shero. Her roars were heard loud and clear.”

Aysha Renna came to limelight after controversial journalist Barkha Dutt interviewed her after an image of Renna ‘protecting’ her friend from Police during anti-CAA riots in New Delhi went viral. Renna’s social media posts were a little problematic where she called India a ‘fascist’ state for hanging 1993 Mumbai serial blasts accused Yakub Memon. However, after she was exposed as a terrorist sympathisers for the first time, she deactivated her account. Renna is now back on Facebook and extended support to Shaheen Bagh road block mastermind Sharjeel Imam for his seditious statements where he was instigating secession and asked Muslims of India to cut off Assam from rest of India.

Pakistan: Muslim man abducts Hindu girl while her wedding was in progress, forces her to marry him and convert to Islam

0

The persecution of Hindu minorities in Pakistan has carried on unabated. Now, a 24 old Hindu woman was abducted from her wedding venue, married off to a Muslim man and forcefully converted to Islam. The victim of this atrocity was identified as Bharti Bai who was getting married to a Hindu man. The incident was reported from Pakistan’s Hala city on Sunday, 26th January 2019.

The father of the victim, Kishore Das, said that Shah Rukh Gul came while his daughter’s wedding ceremony was in progress and abducted her. He has also alleged that Gul was accompanied by some policemen. Gul was also accompanied by several other men who helped carry out the abduction.

According to the documents of her conversion, it seems that Bharti had converted to Islam on December 1, 2019, which may be the reason why she was taken away from her wedding venue. The documents that showed Bharti married to Shah Rukh Gul went viral on social media where Bharti’s name was changed to ‘Bushra’ after conversion to Islam.

According to the documents that went viral, her permanent address is in Hala, Pakistan but her temporary address was shown as Gulshan Iqbal area in Karachi.

Jamiat-ul-Uloom Islamia, located at Allama Muhammad Yousuf Banuri town in Karachi, issued the certificate of Bharti’s conversion while her conversion was witnessed and certified by Mufti AbuBakar Saeed ur Rehman.

The details of the case are still unclear as it is not evident when Bharti was forcefully married to Shah Rukh Gul. While the dates are unclear, different version by Bharti’s family and her abductor, Gul, have also emerged.

Father of the Hindu girl has said that his daughter was abducted by Shah Rukh Gul under the supervision of local policemen. Meanwhile, the locals are saying Shah Rukh Gul approached the police and claimed Bushra as his wife after he learnt of her wedding with another man. The family was marrying off their daughter illegally, Gul had claimed.

The despicable persecution of minority Hindus in Pakistan seems to be an endless cycle with news of Hindu girls being abducted and converted to Islam are regularly reported from the terror-state. Recently, a young girl named Chandri Kolhi from Noukot, Mirpurkhas, was abducted, converted and married to Allah Dino. The family of the girl filed a complaint alleging that she was abducted and forcefully converted to Islam.

In March 2019, two underage Hindu girls Raveena (13) and Reena (15) were abducted from the Ghotki in Pakistan, Sindh, on the eve of Holi and forcefully converted to Islam and married off to older Muslim men.

Earlier, Jagjit Kaur, a Sikh girl was abducted and forcibly converted to Islam in Nankana Sahib which had caused a huge uproar. In another horrific incident, a 13-year-old Pooja Sotahar Kumari, daughter of Fatan Rathore, resident of village Bakhsho Laghari in Hyderabad district’s Hosri Taluka, was kidnapped, forcefully converted and subsequently married off to a man identified as Syed Irshad Shah.

Another Hindu temple attacked in Pakistan’s Sindh, goddess statue desecrated, scriptures damaged

0

Pakistan’s Sindh province has been in the news for the rampant abductions of minor Hindu girls, their forceful conversion fo Islam and marriage to older men. In another testimony of the level of religious intolerance and hatred, the Mata Rani Bhatiyani Devi temple in Chachro, Tharparkar in Sindh has been brutally attacked by an Islamist mob on Sunday.

The attack comes just weeks after the attack on Sikh pilgrimage site Nankana Sahib. In Sindh’s Ghotki region, in September 2019, another temple was brutally attacked by an Islamist mob over fake charges of a teacher indulging in ‘blasphemy’ against Islam.

The Rani Bhatiyani temple was allegedly attacked by an Islamist mob on Sunday. The mob had proceeded to vandalise the temple, desecrate the area and damage the goddess’ statue. The mob had also blackened the face of the idol.

The local Hindu community has express anger and outrage at this attack. It is notable here that Sindh region has been constantly witnessing attacks on the minority Hindus over their faith.

There have been numerous abductions of young Hindu girls, often minors, by local Islamists who then forcefully convert and marry these girls to older Muslim men. The local administration becomes mute spectators when these girls are produced later in local courts with a conversion certificate and ‘Nikahnama’ issued by the Imam of a local Mosque.

The recent attack on Sikh pilgrimage site Nankana Sahib was led by the man was had earlier abducted and forcefully married Sikh girl Jagjit Kaur, the daughter of the ‘Granthi’ at the Gurudwara.

Hindus, Sikhs and Christians, the minority communities in the Islamic Republic Of Pakistan have been constantly under attack by the Islamist fundamentalists. The attacks are often said to be orchestrated by Islamists leaders who enjoy patronage and protection by the Pakistani government.

Barkha Dutt’s ‘Sheroes’ come out in support of Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam, call crackdown against his seditious speech “Islamophobia”

Aysha Renna and Ladeeda Sakaloon alias Ladeeda Farzana, Jamia Millia Islamia students who was hailed by controversial journalist Barkha Dutt as ‘sheroes’, have now come out in support of Shaheen Bagh mastermind Sharjeel Imam. Taking to Facebook, Renna referred to police action against Imam ‘witch hunt’ and demanded it be stopped.

In another post, Renna demanded that all the cases against Imam for his seditious remark instigating secession for Northeastern states from rest of India, be dropped.

She condemned action by Assam and Uttar Pradesh Police against “Anti-CAA Activist and PhD scholar of Jawaharlal Nehru University” under the UAPA. Renna, in her Facebook post, lies that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) denies citizenship to Muslims in India. The CAA merely fast tracks Indian citizenship of persecuted religious minorities from three neighbouring Islamic countries: Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan. CAA does not affect Indians, Muslims and non-Muslims, in any way.

Further, watering down Imam’s seditious remarks where he called for Muslims across the India to block the Siliguri Corridor aka Chicken’s Neck which connects the seven northeastern states to rest of India so that Assam is ‘cut off’ from India, Renna said that his speech was ‘misinterpreted’. About 500-odd ‘students’ and ‘activists’ have written a letter supporting Imam.

Other Jamia ‘Shero’ Ladeeda Sakaloon aka Ladeeda Farzana also took to Twitter to voice her support to Sharjeel Imam.

Ladeeda Sakaloon has deleted her Facebook account after her posts calling for jihad went viral on social media.

Various cases have been registered against Imam for his provocative speech in Aligarh and Delhi. Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur Police have registered FIR against him for trying to instigate secessionist movement in the northeast. Uttar Pradesh Police and Delhi Police, too, have registered FIR under various sections of the IPC against Imam. On Sunday, Police raided his ancestral home in Bihar but he was not to be found.

Last week, The Wire columnist and Shaheen Bagh roadblock mastermind Sharjeel Imam’s video went viral where he had asked Muslims of the country to break India by cutting of North-east from the rest of the country. “Our main aim is to permanently cut Assam and North-east India from rest of India,” he could be heard saying in the video.

In his video, Sharjeel Imam had added, “If 5 lakhs Muslims are organised then we can cut the North-east from rest of India. If we cannot do permanently, at least we can cut North-east from India for months”.

Further, Sharjeel Imam who is also a columnist with The Wire and mastermind of Shaheen Bagh protests had said, “Our responsibility is to cut the Assam from India then Govt will hear our voice. If we have to help the Assam then we will have to cut the Assam from rest of India”.

Sharjeel Imam is the mastermind and main coordinator of the Shaheen Bagh protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Interestingly, earlier, ‘Jinnah Wali Azadi’ slogans were raised at Shaheen Bagh which also pointed towards the main agenda of these anti-CAA protests, specifically at Shaheen Bagh, is the second partition of India.

Uttar Pradesh: Polio vaccination team held hostage, beaten up after locals mistook them for NPR data collection team

A polio vaccination team was reportedly kept hostage and beaten up in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, after the locals mistook that the team was collecting data for National Population Register (NPR). The incident took place on Saturday, 25th January when a team of three vaccinators reached Lisari Gate locality in Meerut. Two of the nurses managed to escape and inform police about the situation.

According to Times of India, police has registered a complaint and an FIR was being filed against the culprits for stopping public servant from carrying out their duty. Apparently, this is not the first time such an incident has happened in the area.

Kabir Ahmad Khan, one of the officer for the immunisation programme, as per the rule, the vaccinators need to enter name of willing parents in a yellow-coloured tally register. When they asked the names, the people started protesting and soon they were surrounded by a mob. The immunising officers reportedly tried to calm the mob and showed them their ID proofs and vaccine box but instead of calming down, they attacked one of the team members.

The mob then tore away the register and the local women took one of the female staff of the immunisation team as a hostage. Eventually, WHO (World Health Organisation) field monitor and senior staff of immunisation programme reached the place and tried to explain the situation.

According to the TOI report, Khan said that this is not the first time people have shown resistance to give details during the vaccination drive. However, this was the first time the mob went violent against them.

This is not the first time vaccinators are mistook for NPR data collecting agents and attacked by an unruly mob. Last week in Kerala, one ASHA worker who was administering polio drops was thrashed by a Muslim family after they thought she was collecting data for NRC. A woman, Nazreen Bano, was attacked in Kota, Rajasthan, over rumours that she was collecting NRC data. She was let off only after she proved she was Muslim.

Subhas Chandra Bose’s struggle within Congress was a statement against the highly personalised high-command structure and dictatorial grip of Gandhi-Nehru

The way history of India has been written post-independence, it is rare to find a post-independence historian to write anything praiseworthy about any freedom-fighter who is not from the clan which appropriated India as its fiefdom. If Nehru is to be considered as the protagonist of India freedom story, not only Subhas

Chandra Bose, Vallabhbhai Patel, Ram Prasad Bismil, Veer Savarkar, anyone who was not Nehru will be what in literary terms is called a foil. Not much has been written after independence from non-Nehru perspective.

Congress, before independence, for a long time, before it became a privately-held entity under Gandhi, was more of an amalgamation of floating ideologies than a political party. The way strong personalities interacted and struggled with each other would make an interesting study, though very less has been written on it. Writing on internal politics of the Indian National Congress has been studiously avoided by the later-day scholars for the fear of offending the ruling royals of the Congress. These idols of independent India do not come out a winner in the face of the illuminating intellect of Tilak, non-negotiable nationalism of Bose or uncompromising courage of Bismil. Let us look at the stint of Subhas Chandra Bose in Congress, strangulated and stifled as it might have been for him.

Within Congress, the contrast could not have been deeper and the competitive streak could not have been more defined than that between Bose and Nehru. Both were of the same age, and from a similar aristocratic background. Bose, unlike other great leaders, did not suffer the lack of pedigree when placed next to Nehru. In reality, Bose with his scholarly background, Civil Services selection stood an inch over Nehru, who at least till that time was still struggling to find a way out of the shadow of a successful and rich Father.

Gandhi was a great leader, unified India, and played the great game of mixing religion with politics, thereby appealing to the masses with a mystic appeal. Still, the fact remains that Gandhi had pronounced dictatorial tendencies. As the party became more and more dependent on Gandhi for direction, and even survival, he became more and more adamant about imposing his will over the party. Nehru too started as a rebel young son to a rich friend of Gandhi committed to communism, but with his internal contradictions of character, he was quickly tamed by Gandhi.

Subhas and Nehru started as friends, Subhas appreciative of the sway Nehru held in the Congress and over Gandhi. Looking forward to enlist support of Nehru, who Bose considered his fellow comrade in the path of complete independence, he wrote on 4th of March, 1936- “you are the only one to whom we can look up for leading the Congress in a progressive direction. Moreover, your position is unique, and I think even Mahatma Gandhi will be more accommodating towards you than towards anybody else.” By then, Nehru had already served as Congress President once, in 1929-30 and was up for the second tenure. Gandhi’s affection for Nehru was well-known.

Read- Netaji Bose wasn’t a ‘Nazi Collaborator’, dear Americans, and accusing Alexandria Ocasio Cortez of being anti-semitic over it is absurd

Right after Nehru’s first presidency of Congress, Sitaramaiyya had quoted Young Indian and mentioned Gandhi as Nehru’s foster father. (His father Motilalji gave him pride and prejudice. His foster father Gandhi gave him his prudence). Bose by then was pretty disheartened by the dithering of Congress on the matter of Independence of India. In his book “Fundamental Questions of Indian Revolution” Netaji writes, “In December 1928, a resolution was passed by the Congress by 1300 to 900 Votes, which put back the clock by definitely committing the Congress to the acceptance of dominion status…The resolution of Calcutta Congress gave the British Government one year’s time within which they could offer Dominion status to India. By 1936, Bose was quite disenchanted with the Congress under Gandhi and hoped to get help from Nehru in reigniting the fire of independence.

However, on 29th of January, 1939, Subhas Bose was appointed the president of Congress, having defeated Pattabhi Sitaramaiya, 1580 to 1377 Votes. Gandhi, dropping all the pretence of neutrality than declared that Sitaramaiyya’s defeat is my defeat. The old guard and Gandhi loyalists got to work almost immediately blocking the newly-appointed President at every step. Possibly it was due to the disenchantment with the leadership of Nehru-Gandhi that Bose decided to himself step in. Nehru had lost his initial vigour for independence and socialism ever since he was handed over the Congress Presidency in 1929 and later in 1936-37. Sitaramaiyya mentions that in all these years, Netaji largely kept to himself and maintained a bipartisan position on most matters. He writes that only towards the end of September, 1938 it came to notice that Subhas babu was keen to become President of Congress at Tripuri. Gandhi was keen to have Maulana Abul Kalam Azad as the next president and in his absence, Sitaramaiyya was his second choice. However, later Maulana withdrew and the contest was between Sitaramaiyya and Subhas.

The declaration of Gandhi claiming Sitaramaiyya’s loss as his own created unrest in the rank and file of the Congress. Immediately after, in Tripuri Congress, a resolution was brought in by Shri Govind Ballabh Pant, supported by 160 signatories stating “The committee declares its firm adherence to the fundamental policies of the Congress which have governed its programme in the past years under the guidance of Mahatma Gandhi and is definitely of the opinion that there should be no break in these policies and they should continue to govern the Congress policies in future. This diluted the powers of appointed President, leaving Bose with nor room to give any new direction to the organization.

Read- How Congress party shunted out Subhash Chandra Bose

The resolution went further and stated, “..the fact that Mahatma Gandhi alone can lead the Congress and the country to victory during such crisis, the Committee regards it as imperative that the Congress Executive should command his implicit confidence and requests the President to nominate Working Committee in accordance with the wishes of Gandhiji”. Not one to take things lying down, Bose wrote to Gandhiji. Subhas wrote to Gandhi on 25th March, 1939- “What exactly is the position of President? Article XV of the Congress Constitution confers certain powers on the President in the matter of appointing the Working committee.”

Stifled and crippled as a notional president, Subhas Bose resigned later that year in September, 1939.  Subhas had also fell apart from Nehru by this time. On 28th March, 1939, He wrote to Nehru, “I may tell you that since the Presidential election, you have done more to lower me in the estimation of the public than all the twelve ex-members of the Working Committee put together.” Here he made that famous remark on Nehru and his commitment to socialism. He wrote, “You are in the habit of proclaiming that you stand by yourself and represent nobody else and that you are not attached to any party. At the same time you call yourself a Socialist- sometimes a full-blooded Socialist. How a socialist can be an individualist as you regard yourself, beats me. The one is anti-thesis of the other.”

That his assessment was true is confirmed in a self-portrait written by Nehru anonymously. Nehru wrote in Modern Review, November, 1939 “Men like Jawaharlal with all their capacity for great and good work are unsafe in a democracy. A little twist and Jawaharlal might turn a dictator sweeping aside the paraphernalia of a slow-moving democracy. Jawaharlal is certainly not a fascist either by conviction or temperament. He is far too much of an aristocrat for the crudity and vulgarity of fascism. And yet he has the makings of a dictator in him. His overmastering desire to get things done, to sweep away what he dislikes and build anew, will hardly brook for long the slow process of democracy.” These dictatorial tendencies came into play much later in full when he took over as the Prime Minister of India, turning himself into a singular power center between the Government and the Party.

On refusing the follow the party line, after resigning as the President of AICC, in the month of August same year, Bose was disqualified as President of Bengal’s Provincial Congress Committee as well for three years on the charges of indiscipline. Free from the limitations of party policies and politics, Bose went in for an open challenge to the British rule. On 19th March, 1940, he presided in an All India Anti-Compromise Conference at Ramgarh Bihar organized by Swami Sahajanand Saraswati where he expressed his anguish at the compromising nature of the Congress- “As soon as the war began, Mahatma Gandhi proceeded to Shimla without caring to consult the Congress Working Committee and informed HE the Viceroy that he was in favor of rendering unconditional help to Great Britain in the prosecution of war.

He organized a protest against the fake narrative of the British claiming that around 160 British were pushed into a small room by Nawab Sirajuddaula where many died. This was based on the accounts of General Holwell. Netaji was arrested on 2nd of July, 1940. He went on hunger strike in captivity and was later released in November, 1940. All this while he continued to urge Congress to launch Civil disobedience. On May 20th, 1940, Nehru made a statement that Launching a civil disobedience at a time when Britain is engaged in life and death struggle would be an act derogatory to India’s honour. Mahatma also refused to join in claiming that he did not want to win independence from the ruins of Britain.

Netaji escaped and fled India in January, 1941, later to emerge as the Commander-in-Chief of Azad Hind Fauz, an audacious attempt to liberate India from the colonial rule with Military means. While the mission itself failed, the failed fire did carry enough cinders to ignite the fires of Sailor mutiny during the Quit India movement, the following year. Protests in support of INA in Kolkata saw the death of 40 in Police firing and that in Mumbai of 23.

Pattabhi Sitaramayya brilliantly captures the difference between Gandhi and Bose when he writes- “With Gandhi Means are Ends. With Subhas Ends are Means. They were two polar opposites. Gandhi is moved by instincts. Subhas was guided by reason.”

Subhas Chandra Bose’s struggle while within Congress was a statement against the highly personalized high-command structure and dictatorial grip Gandhi held over Congress amid all the pretence of democracy. While there are many theories of whether or not Bose survived the plane crash on 18th of August, 1945, what Netaji meant to India is captured in the words of Pattabhi Sitaramayya, who writes-

“There is widely felt disinclination to believe this story of Subhas babu’s death, which is traced to Japanese sources. His position after the conclusion of the war has become a matter of anxious enquiry all around. If he was dead, this anxiety would be submerged by the flood tide of sorrow that overcame the country. If he was alive, the halo around this mystic would become deeper and brighter.”

Mumbai police issue notice to Christian families of a colony for harassing Hindu families, not allowing them to perform puja

0

Mumbai police have issued notices to residents of a residential society in Mumbai after the Christian families in a building were preventing few Hindu families living there to conduct pujas. After non-stop harassment from the Christian families, who had even cut off the water supply the houses of Hindu families, the polices issued a notice to them asking them not to hurt the religious feelings of people.

As reported earlier, the case relates to a residential building called MP Kinny House in Juhu. The building has only 5 Hindu families, while rest all families belong to the Christian community. As per the report, the Christians of the building have been harassing the Hindu families by issuing threats, shutting off the water supply and not allowing them to perform puja. The Hindu families have said that Christians don’t like the worship of Hindu Gods in the building, and that’s why they are continuously harassing the 5 families. It may be noted that the Christians are not allowing the Hindu families to do Puja inside their own houses, not just the common areas of the building.

In light of this situation, the Hindu families had filed complaints with the Juhu Police station. One of the complaints was filed by two residents, Alpa Bhalla and Anju Tata, under section 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation). In response to the criminal complaint number 142 of 2020, a senior inspector of the police station issued a notice to the residents of the housing society under section 149 of the CrPC. According to the notice, the accused residents were made to sign a statement saying that will not harass and threaten the complainant and their families, and they will hurt their religious feeling. Under section 149 of the Criminal Procedure Code, police officers are authorised to take action to prevent any cognizable offence taking place.

Advocate Saurabh Dubey, who had lodged the complaint on behalf of the Hindu families, said that further action will be taken on the basis of the response of the Christian families. Talking to OpIndia, Alpa Bhalla said that they are continuously being harassed, and she is going through enormous mental agony and pressure. She said that they are being pressurised to leave the building, so that it can be turned into a 100% Christian society.

Jharkhand: Apart from mosques, stones pelted from Congress office at Lohardaga pro-CAA rally, rioters shouted ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans, says VHP leader

The Lohardaga area in Jharkhand was gripped with violence on January 23, 2019, when an Islamist mob, in what could be now considered a pre-planned attack, pelted stones and hurled petrol bombs at a pro-CAA rally being taken out by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) reached the Amlatoli Chowk area. A Muslim mob had thrown stones from the roof of a mosque in the area on that day. Now, a VHP leader has said that apart from the mosque, stone-pelting had taken from the local Congress officer also.

Speaking to OpIndia, Vishwa Hindu Parishad Vinod Bansal confirmed that apart from the mosque, there was a lot of stone pelting done from the local congress office as well. He alleged that many Congress workers were also involved in perpetrating the violence on the Hindu crowd. This comes after VHP had alleged yesterday that stones and petrol bombs were hurled at the rally targeting homes of Hindus as well as women.

Earlier it was reported how the Muslim crowd who had beforehand gathered brick and stones, started pelting stones and petrol bombs from inside a mosque as soon as the rally entered the area. Several shops were burnt and some two-wheelers were set on fire following the attack, which further sparked tensions in the area.

Eyewitnesses had said that the Muslim mob which pelted stones included women and children, who threw stones from the roof of the mosque. A large number of brick-and-stones were stacked on the roof of the mosque, which shows that a conspiracy was already planned to stop the rally.

Read- Anti-CAA riots: ‘Liberals’ brought back the ‘urban riot’, but Yogi Adityanath might have a solution

Apart from VHP workers and many ordinary Hindus, Congress workers had also suffered injuries in the ensuing. In fact, according to an eyewitness, the Muslim mob had also beaten a tribal boy black and blue. The situation was so grim that some policemen including ordinary people saved their respective lives by hiding in the local Shiva temple.

It is pertinent to note here, that Jharkhand is jointly ruled by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Congress. When Opindia got in touch with the Jharkhand state convenor Deepak Thakur of Bajrang Dal, he said that the locals in Lohardaga area in Jharkhand district are scared to speak up against the Congress workers as it is a Congress-ruled state. They are wary that the police will also not take any action against the Congress workers. The local media are also fearful of reporting anything against the ruling party, alleged Thakur.

Thakur, who was himself participated in the rally, confirmed that the Muslims rioters also fired on the rally. Muslim women were throwing chilli powder from the roof. The rioting crowd was shouting ‘Hindustan Murdabad, Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans while unleashing violence on the rally.

OpIndia also interacted with parents of many middle-school students, who said that after the incident they are scared to send their children back to school. On conditions of anonymity, one parent said that after the incident their children are scared to interact with Muslim children in school. Instead of teaching the curriculum, these students are now being trained to pelt stones, alleged the concerned parent.

Many eyewitnesses whom Opindia got in touch expressed fear and apprehensions as they felt that their life would be endangered of they spoke anything against the ruling JMM-Congress government, who were known for their Muslim appeasement.

An eyewitness, however, divulged that when he went to the local MLA and Congress leader, Rameshwar Oraon, he told him that the incident happened as the locals were instigated by the people who took out the pro-CAA rally.

At this point, one needs to, however, understand that it is practically impossible that the Muslims in the locality managed to collect stones, bricks and petrol bombs immediately after they were instigated by the VHP leaders. The quantity in which stones, bricks and petrol bombs were used to execute the attack on January 23, a lot of prior planning must have been required. Obviously, the statement of the MLA is false. Moreover, when Opindia contacted the MLA, Rameshwar Oraon said that he had not given any such statement.

Dodging questions on the Lohardaga incident, the MLA instead expressed shock as to why a pro-CAA rally was taken out in the first place. Insisting that he had no information about the rioters, the Congress MLA seemed to be hassled by the shift in the common people’s disposition regarding CAA. He worried how the anti-CAA stance, fuelled by his party and other Oppositions was now fading away and why people were now taking out pro-CAA rallies.

The Wire journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani advices protesting Muslims to appear inclusive ‘as part of strategy’

Arfa Khanum Sherwani, a journalist associated with leftist propaganda website, The Wire, while addressing a gathering at Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh suggested the protesting Muslims should appear inclusive ‘as part of strategy’.

She said that there is no doubt that when Muslims are protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), they are primarily protesting as Muslims, but they must try to appear inclusive in order to “not lose the battle”.

“You must make these protests as inclusive as you could and make its base bigger. You read your Kalmas, do the Ibadat, Indian constitution is still present in that manner. But when you come out in the public, you are a Muslim, there is no doubt about it,” she said.

Referring to Islamic chants like “La ilahi lilliah” that were shouted by Muslim protesters even at Congress leader Shashi Tharoor who had warned against Muslim identity politics, Arfa said that “an ideal society” would accept such slogans, but till then, protesters should try to appear inclusive.

Read: Cultural Marxism: Liberals oppose the CAB because of Hinduphobia which dictates that Hindus must never be recognized as Victims

She cautioned that if the protestors continue to protests as Muslims only and chant Islamic slogans, they may alienate the people of other religions who many want to ally with them. “At least for some time, we must steer clear from religious sloganeering. Do Ibadat at home. Do Ibadat to your heart’s content at home. Draw your strength from religion at home. But when you decide to protest as a Muslim, that you want to look like a Muslim, you want to speak like a Muslim, you want to have all religious slogans in the protests, then you lose the battle,” she said.

Trying to convince the gathering that they should play down their Muslim identity as a strategic ploy, she explained that by appearing inclusive, one was not “compromising” on the ideology.

“I would like to reiterate that we are not compromising with our ideology but are changing our strategy,” she said.

The anti-CAA protests across the country have taken anti-Hindu slant after various Hinduphobic posters were spotted at these protest sites. Anti-Hindu slogans, like ‘Hinduon se Azaadi’ and ‘Kaafiron se Azaadi’ were also chanted during these protests. One must recall that it was at Shaheen Bagh that ‘Jinnah wali Azadi’ slogans were raised and that during the course of anti-CAA protests, we have even seen posters that compared Hinduism to Nazism and the blatant misuse of the Swastika.

West Bengal: Students block road demanding resumption of Saraswati Puja in Basirhat school

0

A group of students hit the streets on Wednesday in Chauhata village of Basirhat subdivision in West Bengal to demand the resumption of Saraswati Puja that has been stopped by school authorities of Adarsha Vidyapith for the past 8 years.

Despite repeated requests in the past, the school authorities have turned a blind eye to their demands. The students have now submitted a proposal to the current Headmaster, Himanshu Shekhar Mandal, asking him to make arrangements for Saraswati Puja, failing which a larger protest would be organised.

The students have also locked the school gates and blocked the Boyalghata-Kolupukur Road. The former Headmaster of the school, Ashok Chandra Sarkar, had reportedly stopped the puja for all these years. Mr. Mandal who had joined the school 6 months ago, has now passed on the blame to the school management committee. Due to the protests by the students in the school which has around 1700 students, the final day of the annual sports meet had to be cancelled.

Saraswati Puja as organised at the school in 2012, after that it was discontinued following a clash. Every year the students apply to organise the puja devoted to the goddess of education, but every year the request is rejected by the school management committee. Headmaster Himanshu Shekhar Mandal said that he has received a request from students wanting to organise the puja at the school, and he has forwarded the same to the management committee, but he has not received any reply them from yet.

According to some reports, the Saraswati puja was discontinued in the schools after Muslims in the area had objected to it. They had demanded that if Saraswati puja is organised, the school will have to organise Nabi Divas (Prophet Day) also. After this, the school management committee had decided that neither will be organised in the school.

This incident has now brought back memories of 2017 when Muslim villagers had stopped a local school from celebrating Saraswati Puja.
