Justice DY Chandrachud to hear Muslim side’s plea against Gyanvapi survey tomorrow after the survey team finds Shivling inside the disputed structure

After the survey of the disputed Gyanvapi structure has been completed today, the Supreme Court is all set to hear a petition to seek direction against the survey of the complex submitted by the Muslim side on Tuesday. The plea submitted by the Management Committee of Anjuman Intezamia Masjid will be heard by a three-member bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud.

The committee that manages the affairs and upkeep of the disputed structure often referred to as Gyanvapi ‘mosque’ is representing the Muslim side in the case. Huzefa Ahmadi, senior counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioner, has been seeking a ban on the survey being conducted at the site since the beginning. For this, he had sought an urgent interim order in the case, with his plea. However, a bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana refused to put a stay on the ongoing survey of the disputed site on May 14.

In the order, Chief Justice NV Ramana asserted that first look into the papers of the survey and videography undertaken. However, Ramana agreed to list the plea submitted by the Muslim side, which will be heard tomorrow. “Upon being mentioned by Huzefa Ahmadi, senior counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioner, we deem it appropriate to direct the Registry to list the matter before the bench presided over by Dr Justice DY Chandrachud,” the SC order on May 14 said. The bench will also include Justices J K Maheshwari and Hima Kohli.

While the plea submitted by Senior Counsel Ahmedi demanded to seek action against the then ongoing survey, it must be noted that the survey and videography committee has completed its work today itself. After three days of rigorous work, the survey committee completed documentation of the temple and the temple has been sealed by CRPF. Reportedly a, 12′ 8″ wide in diameter Shivling has been found inside the complex of the disputed structure.

However, Ahmadi’s allegation against the survey being conducted in the disputed structure is built upon the premise of the Places of Worship Act, 1991. “We have filed in relation to a survey which has been directed to be conducted in relation to the Varanasi property. This (Gyanvapi) has been a mosque since time immemorial and this is clearly interdicted by the Places of Worship Act,” he said.

What lies ahead for the Muslim side?

Ever since the Varanasi Civil Court passed an order to allow the videography and survey of the disputed Gyanvapi structure, the Muslim side has been opposing the move. It was for Senior Counsel Huzefa Ahmadi to submit a plea opposing the survey inside the structure. The request for an urgent hearing in the matter was quashed by CJ Ramana.

The Supreme Court will now hear on Tuesday, May 17, the petition to ban the Gyanvapi Masjid survey. On the orders of the Varanasi Court, the survey of Gyanvapi Masjid started on Saturday and has been completed today. Since the survey of the disputed structure has already been completed, it would be interesting to see what order comes from the Supreme Court.

According to sources, the Anjuman Intejamia Committee may likely demand a stay from making public the investigation report of the 52-member committee constituted by the Varanasi Court headed by the Advocate Commissioner.

Gyanvapi survey: Shivling found after draining out ‘Wuzukhana’, people wash their hands and feet in it before offering namaz

According to reports, the Shivling discovered within the disputed Gyanvapi edifice was found from the Gyanvapi premise’s Wuzukhana. Reports claim that the Shivling was discovered after the water inside a pond like well, which is used as Wuzukhana by Muslims, was pumped out of it. After the Shivling was unearthed during the survey, Civil Judge (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar ordered the sealing of the disputed Gyanvapi structure.

In its order, the court stated that the Shivling discovery is substantial evidence and asked the CRPF commandant to secure the premises and prevent Muslims from entering.

What is a Wuzukhana?

A Wuzukhana is a place where the people who offer Namaz wash their hands and feet prior to the offering. It has significance in Islam as it is a place where dirt from the body is washed out before offering Namaz. Basically, Wuzukhana is derived from two words – Wuzu and Khana. Wuzu means washing parts of the body before offering Namaz and Khana is the place where Wuzu is performed.

Wuzu is an Islamic process for washing bodily parts, a sort of ceremonial purification or ablution. Wuzu is sometimes interpreted as ‘partial ablution,’ as opposed to ghusl, which is ‘full ablution,’ in which the entire body is bathed.

As per Chapter 2 verse no 222 in Quran, “For God loves those who turn to Him constantly and He loves those who keep themselves pure and clean.”

The Gyanvapi structure survey

A Varanasi court ordered a videographic survey of the disputed Gyanvapi structure on May 12, just days after members of the Muslim community obstructed the survey ordered previously by the court. Ravi Kumar Diwakar, Civil Judge (Senior Division) of Varanasi, issued survey directives and ordered the survey to be conducted, with a report due by May 17. After three days of work, the survey of the disputed structure was finished on Monday. On Monday, the team evaluated the structures in front of Nandi.

The Gyanvapi Mosque complex is a controversial construction erected by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb over the ruins of the destroyed ancient Kashi Vishwanath Temple after it was vandalised several times by Islamic invaders such as Qutb al-Din Aibak and Aurangzeb.

In 1780, Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore built the Kashi Vishwanath Temple complex, which is next to the contentious mosque structure and where worshipers can perform puja and prayers.

Hindus rejoice at the discovery of Shivling inside the disputed Gyanvapi structure in Kashi, ‘#BabaMilGaye’ starts trending on Social Media

Hindus have been unable to remain calm after news broke that a Shivling has been discovered inside the disputed Gyanvapi structure during a videography survey on May 16. Ever since the news came out, people are celebrating the vindication of their long-held belief about the presence of the Shivling inside the structure.

Earlier in the day, speaking to the media, Sohan Lal Arya, petitioner in the Gyanvapi mosque case, who accompanied the Court commission on mosque survey in Varanasi, said, “Shivling….Jiski Nandi pratiksha kar rahi thi… The moment things became clear the chants of ‘Har Har Mahavdev’ resonated in mosque premises.”

Once the news filtered out, hashtags like #BabaMilGaye, #Har Har Mahadev, #ज्ञानवापी_मंदिर (#Gyanvapi_Mandir), and #Shivling immediately started trending on the microblogging site Twitter.

The Hindus are overwhelmed that the truth about Gyanvapi has been reaffirmed once again by the discovery of the Shivling.

Sharing a copy of court order to seal the disputed Gyanvapi structure after the discovery of the Shivling, VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal Tweeted, “भगवान मिल गए.. जय हो प्रभु। जय हो। जय #ज्योतिर्लिङ्ग”, roughly translated as “the God has been found…hail the Lord, Jai Ho”.

Many other Hindus have taken to Twitter to express their joy over the discovery of the Shivling at the disputed Gyanvapi structure.

“I had always heard from elders in the family that “Panditji hid the Shivling in the well to protect it from the invading marauders in Kashi!”. Feels unreal to have this centuries old ‘Aastha’ come to fruition,” wrote @RashmiDVS in her Tweet.

Another social media user @pratyasharath recalled hearing stories about the priests of the temple saving the Shivling by jumping into the well, with the lingam. “Many might have dismissed it as a myth, just so that they can willingly ignore the ugly history of oppression,” she wrote as she rejoiced over the discovery of the Shivling, that has finally attested to the centuries-old reality.

Another popular Twitter user going by the handle @MrSinha_ wrote, “The news of Vishveshwar Shivling found inside #Gyanvapi is not at all surprising. It was an obvious thing. It’s matter of shame that in a Hindu majority country, so called minority didn’t allow Hindus to see/worship those Shivlings & nobody cared.”

“12.8 feet shivling found in well premises of Gyanvapi!!! Truth prevails… Har Har Mahadev….Wahi banayenge…. Usko kon rokega #GyanvapiEvidence#GyanvapiMosque,” Tweeted an elated social media user CS Vineeta Singh.

Social media user @arungupta5253 said that Hindus are fortunate that they have their ‘Baba’ (Lord Shiva) back with them.

Some social media users remarked on how auspicious it was that the find was revealed on Monday, Hindus’ most auspicious day for worshipping Lord Shiva. Another replied by pointing out how fortuitous today marks the auspicious day of Budh Purnima or Buddha Jayanti.

A user named Tushar Gadhavi thanked the petitioner for pursuing legal action in the case, which has finally led Hindus to witness this auspicious day.

Disputed Gyanvapi structure sealed, CRPF deployed as Shivling found inside during survey

Earlier in the day, OpIndia reported that on Monday, 16th of May, Civil Judge (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar ordered the sealing of the disputed Gyanvapi structure. The court stated in its order that the Shivling discovery is significant evidence and has directed the CRPF commandant to guard the complex and prevent Muslims from entering. After counsel Hari Shankar Jain representing the Hindu side informed the court that a Shivling had been discovered inside the Gyanvapi premises during the survey, the court took this decision.

The court further ordered that the District Magistrate and the Police Commissioner should contribute to securing the place. Advocate Hari Shankar Jain made the request to secure the premises after a Shivling was found inside the premise. Madan Mohan Yadav, another lawyer representing the Hindu side, said the Shivling is 12 feet by 8 inches in diameter and is in the direction where Nandi is facing, as is customary.

‘Baba Mil Gaye…Jiski Nandi pratiksha kar rahi thi’: Petitioner says after Shivling is found inside Gyanvapi mosque

On completion of the videographic survey of Gyanvapi mosque on Monday (May 16), petitioner Sohan Lal Arya informed the media that a Shivling was found inside the complex of the disputed structure.

Baba mil gaye…Jiski Nandi pratisha kar rahi this (The Shivling has been found. The sacred bull Nandi was waiting for it),” he exclaimed. “We already knew what was inside… but found more than what we had imagined,” the petitioner emphasised.

“It is a very big day for us. Chants of ‘Har Har Mahadev’ reverberated in the complex of the Gyanvapi mosque. The next step is to demand a survey of the Western Wall of the mosque. There are inscriptions of Hindu Gods and Goddesses there.”

“The survey is complete and we have come out of the Gynavapi mosque complex,” he concluded. It must be mentioned that petitioner Sohan Lal Arya had accompanied the Court commission on the mosque survey in Varanasi.

A local court in Varanasi on Monday asked the local administration to seal the area inside the Gyanvapi Masjid near the Kashi Vishwanath temple where a Shivling was found during the three-day video survey. The court also directed Varanasi DM, Police Commissioner, Police Commissionerate and CRPF Commandant to ensure the security of the sealed area.

Gyanvapi mosque dispute and survey

The Gyanvapi Mosque complex is a disputed structure built over the ruins of the desecrated old Kashi Vishwanath Temple by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb after it was desecrated multiple times by Islamic monarchs such as Qutb al-Din Aibak and Aurangzeb.

To this day, parts of this ancient temple are clearly visible on the outer walls of the mosque, especially the western wall which has been kept intact. Moreover, there is enough historical evidence of the demolition of the temple, the building of the mosque, and the rebuilding of the temple at the current adjacent site.

The Kashi Vishwanath Temple complex, which is adjacent to the disputed mosque complex and where devotees can do puja and prayers, was built by Ahilya Bai Holkar of Indore in 1780.

A Varanasi court on May 12 allowed a videographic survey of the disputed structure. Varanasi’s Civil Judge (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar issued guidelines for the same and added that a report of the survey must be submitted by May 17.

A 54-member team, led by advocate commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra, surveyed the Gyanvapi complex basement and the western wall on Saturday (May 14). According to the reports, the survey team opened eight vaults of the disputed structure of Gyanvapi mosque.

Rajasthan Minister Mahesh Joshi attends Congress’ ‘Chintan Shivir’ while Delhi police hunt for his rape accused son

A 15-member team of Delhi police are on the lookout for Rohit, the son of Rajasthan Minister for Water supply, Mahesh Joshi, who has been accused of rape by a 23-year-old woman. While police search for Mahesh Joshi’s son, who has gone missing, his father is in Udaipur for the Congress’ Chintan Shivir. Mahesh Joshi is considered one of the most-trusted loyalists of Rajasthan CM Chief Minister and Congress senior leader Ashok Gehlot.

The police reportedly visited two residences of Mahesh Joshi but have failed to trace the accused. On not finding him, the cops pasted a copy of the notice on the wall and asked him to appear before them on Wednesday (March 18).

While speaking to India Today about rape allegations against his son, the Congress Minister remarked, “I have been informed Delhi police have arrived in Jaipur. Law should take its course. Truth should come out. A media trial should not take place.”

He claimed that the Delhi police team did not contact him and that he will cooperate with the investigation. He, however, did not answer whether his son Rohit was in Jaipur or not.

The fact that the Congress minister has volunteered to participate in the probe while sitting in Udaipur is rather amusing. This speaks volumes about the mindset of the Congress ecosystem. While the Congress minister’s son has been charged with such a serious crime, his father, who is a member of a party, that has on umpteen occasions mouthed off platitudes on women empowerment, seems to be completely unbothered. This is why, while the police are frantically searching for his absconding son, accused of raping a woman, he is in Udaipur, unperturbed.

Instead of giving priority to the investigation and helping locate his rape accused son, who is busy dodging the police, the Congress leader has chosen to attend the three-day event hosted by Congress to relaunch the party ahead of the crucial 2024 elections.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s “Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon” campaign

It doesn’t take an elephant’s memory to remember how many times Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have lectured the world on women empowerment. During the UP assembly polls, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra came up with the “Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon” campaign to try and contest the elections on the plank of women empowerment.

But not for a second also, Priyanka considered moves to empower women as women empowerment. In fact, Dr Priyanka Maurya, the state vice-president of Mahila Congress, Uttar Pradesh since 2019 and the face of the party’s women’s manifesto “Shakti Vidhan,” had herself called Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s election campaign- ‘Ladki hoon, Lad Sakti hoon’ a sham. She had said it was a “lollipop” that was given to her by her party which she said, in reality, is anti-women and anti-OBC.

Congress and its sham of women empowerment

There have been umpteen incidents where, contrary to its women empowerment rhetorics, the party has gone on to downright insult women. Last year, on International Women’s Day, Haryana Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda led a protest march against the state government. In his ‘tractor march’, women Congress leaders could be seen manually pulling the tractors.

Congress leader Digvijay Singh had caught the spotlight a few years back when while praising a fellow party secretary, Meenakshi Natrajan at a rally in Madhya Pradesh he referred to her as ‘a 100 percent tunch maal’. (Translated from Bhojpuri, the remark roughly means ‘100 percent sexy woman’.)

Besides, he has on several occasions, made sexist and misogynist remarks toward BJP leader Smriti Irani.

Rahul Gandhi had once commented “Have you ever seen women wearing shorts working in RSS?” without realising the sexist nature of the remark.

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, while addressing a farmers’ rally in Rajasthan, Rahul Gandhi said that the prime minister who boasted of a 56-inch chest did not attend the court of the public, that is the Parliament. “We demolished the Defence Minister’s speech. The prime minister, who has a 56-inch-chest, asked a woman to defend him,” he said.

He had reduced Nirmala Sitharaman, independent India’s first-ever Defence Minister to just a ‘woman’. That a woman gave befitting replies to his lies hurt him so much that he used ‘woman’ as an insult to her. The man who wants to become India’s Prime Minister gets rattled when a woman speaks up.

To quote Rahul Gandhi’s own words, “jab tak mahila chup rahe, kuch bole na tab tak mahila theek hai jaise hi mahila ne muh khola usko chup karvao.”

Asides from all this, in December last year, the Congress party rehabilitated a Congress worker accused of sexual harassment. Congress had reinstated Ranajit Mukherjee, accused of sexual harassment, and made him the secretary of the three key states- Tripura, Nagaland and Sikkim.

Congress and its selective outrage on crimes against women

The party, on the whole, has not been very sympathetic towards rape victims either. In fact, its selectivity in outrage has not been hidden from the public eye. From Hathras to Lakhimpur, the Congress leadership hopped, skipped, laughed, jumped and toppled to make the most of the two unfortunate cases in Uttar Pradesh.

Moreover, the Gandhi siblings left no opportunity to click silhouettes with the victims to circulate in media. They even camped in the state led by the opposition to ‘demand justice’ for the victims. In fact, before Uttar Pradesh went to the polls, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s social media timeline had then been flooded with political gimmicks.

All this, while conveniently ignoring the rise in crime rates in its own ruled state of Rajasthan. OpIndia in November 2021, chronicled the many crimes against women recorded from the Congress-ruled Rajasthan, which the Gandhi scions simply ignored while playing vulture politics over the tragic rape instances that occurred in neighbouring BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh.

It’s dreadful how the Congress party leaders have not only ignored the crime against women in its own backyard but have also taken pride in them. In March this year, during his address in Assembly, Rajasthan Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal made an utterly reprehensible comment when he tried rationalising Rajasthan being on the top of the list of states with the highest rape cases. He said the state is at number one in rape cases because it has always been a region of ‘mards’ ‘(manly persons).

Not only that, but Dhariwal’s sexist remarks on sexual assault elicited laughter from his fellow Congress members, who had no qualms in chuckling at claims that attempted to justify the high rate of rapes in Rajasthan rather than speaking out against Dhariwal’s vile justification.

Rajasthan woman alleges Congress minister Mahesh Joshi’s son raped and tortured her

A 23-year-old woman has filed a rape complaint against Rohit Joshi, the son of Dr Mahesh Joshi, the Rajasthan government’s water supply minister. The young woman working for a Rajasthan-based news channel has filed a rape case with Delhi’s Sadar Bazar police station. A zero FIR has been filed in Sadar Bazar police station and forwarded to Sawai Madhopur.

The girl has stated in her complaint that Rohit attacked her and forced her to get an abortion when she became pregnant. The victim stated in her police complaint that the accused raped her multiple times in Jaipur and Delhi. In addition, the victim has reported rape and unnatural sex with her in Delhi.

According to the FIR, Rohit repeatedly threatened the victim in the name of his father. Rohit further stated that he has had contacts with miscreants and the mafia and that he is not frightened of the cops. He warned her about being treated like Bhanwari Devi. The woman claims that the father-son duo poses a threat to her and her family’s lives.

As Indian shuttlers make the country proud with the Thomas Cup win, here is how GoI is changing the face of Indian sports

0

On May 15, the Indian Men’s Badminton Team stunned the sporting world by defeating the 14-time champions Indonesia and winning the Thomas Cup for the first time in its history. India defeated the Indonesian team by 3-0 in a best of 5 contest. India became the 6th nation to win the coveted trophy, recognized as the biggest prize in team badminton for men.

This continues the present Golden Era for sports in India as Indian sportspersons continue to win accolades across the world in various different sports. The last Tokyo Olympics saw India’s best-ever performance at the Olympics, followed by an even more impressive performance at the Paralympics. While the talent of the athletes is what is ultimately winning these accolades, thanks to the support system built for sports in the country in recent years, that talent is getting nurtured now and showing results at the biggest stage.

Since PM Modi came to power in 2014, he has made sure that the sportspersons get all the required support from the government and federations. There are several initiatives that the government of India has launched to support the players.

TOPS – Target Olympic Podium Scheme

The athletes are often faced with sponsorship challenges, thereby making it difficult for them to get the best training facilities and coaching. Having understood the underlying reason behind India’s poor performance in Olympics Games, the Indian government launched the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) in September 2014. Mirabai Chanu is one of the beneficiaries of TOPS. Notably, during the conversation with PM Modi, Srikanth said TOPS-like schemes are providing much-needed support for the players.

The program is monitored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, wherein it provides financial support and assistance to top athletes in the country. With the objective of helping sportspersons secure Olympic medals for the country, a TOPS Elite Altheltes’ Identification Committee and a Mission Olympic Cell were set up. The body was tasked to identify top athletes and parathletes and provide them with several benefits.

NCOE – National Centres of Excellence

National Centres Of Excellence have been established by the Sports Authority of India to impart specialized training to promising athletes by providing them state of the art infrastructure and playing facilities, sports science backup, a personalized diet prescribed by trained nutritionists, and overall supervision under the best coaches, qualified support staff and High-Performance Directors. These centers operate as coaching camps for the best available talent across India. There are 23 such centers across the country concentrating on various different sports.

Extension centers of STC (Training Centres Scheme)

Early training for talented athletes goes a long way in achieving their international goals later on in their careers. To ensure the best talent gets the best training from an early stage, the government introduced the scheme of extension centers of STCs covering 17 disciplines to cover schools and colleges with a view to developing sports standards in schools and colleges having requisite basic sports infrastructure. The scheme has shown good results across disciplines. Trainees from the age group of 10 years to 18 years are selected for regular training under this program.

Khelo India

The program has been introduced to bring back the culture of sports in India at the grassroots level. Talented players identified in priority sports disciplines at various levels by the High-Powered Committee are provided annual financial assistance of INR 5 lakh per annum for eight years. Khelo India games have been held regularly since 2018. Under-17 athletes are invited to participate in the games across 16 disciplines.

Fit India Movement

Launched in August 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the program aims at the overall improvement of health among Indians via sports. It helps in spreading awareness about fitness at the grass-root level. The aim is to spread awareness about fitness to every school, college/university, panchayat/village, etc. Several campaigns under the program have been launched to improve fitness among the people of India, thus bringing them closer to a sporting culture.

The schemes have also helped Indian athletes in para-sports. Apart from the central government’s initiatives, perks like pensions and jobs for athletes at the state and national levels have also increased to encourage their contribution to the medal tally.

PM Modi’s personal connect with the players

Apart from these schemes that have been launched by the government, PM Modi always maintains a personal connection with the sportspersons and never misses a chance to personally congratulate the players on the win or console them if they lose.

Even after the historic Thomas Cup win, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a 9-minute conversation with the winners over the phone in which he congratulated them and talked about their experience. PM Modi also invited the whole team to his residence. He said, “Once you are back home, you have to come to my residence. I want to listen to your experiences.”

During the conversation, star player Kidambi Srikanth who sealed the Thomas Cup for India also recognized the contribution of various government schemes to their success. Srikanth said, “The atmosphere in the country is in favor of the sportspersons. The Sports Authority of India, sports federations, and the Indian Government are supporting the players. Schemes like TOPS are helping the sportsperson. If the support continues, India will see many more champions.”

Earlier, even during Olympics 2020, while PM Modi called up every single medal winner and congratulated them, he also took his time out to share the grief of those who narrowly missed out. After the Indian Women’s Hockey team lost a hard-fought Bronze match to Britain, PM Modi called the team up and tried to cheer them up. PM Modi urged the team not to lose heart and shared with them how their performances impressed everyone. He said, “Your sweat (hard work) has become the inspiration of crores of girls in India.”

PM Modi also makes sure to congratulate teams or individual players on social media after they win a tournament, and players often mention how much this personal touch from the Prime Minister means to them.

Disputed Gyanvapi structure sealed, CRPF deployed as Shivling found inside during survey

On Monday, 16th of May, Civil Judge (Senior Division) Ravi Kumar Diwakar ordered the sealing of the disputed Gyanvapi structure.

The order of the court.

The court further ordered that the District Magistrate and the Police Commissioner should contribute to securing the place. The request to secure the premises was made by Advocate Hari Shankar Jain after a Shivling was found inside the premise. Madan Mohan Yadav, another lawyer representing the Hindu side, said the Shivling is 12 feet by 8 inches in diameter and is in the direction where Nandi is facing, as is customary.

Gyanvapi Survey

The survey of the disputed structure was completed on Monday after three days of operation. The team assessed the structures in front of Nandi on Monday. Meanwhile, the Hindu side’s lawyer, Vishnu Jain, stated that a Shivling was discovered inside the Gyanvapi premises near the Wuzu site.

Earlier on Sunday, a survey was conducted on the western wall, Namaz site, Wuzu site, and the basement. The delegation conducted the survey while being protected by nearly 1,500 security personnel. In light of the survey, tight security arrangements were put in place on Monday. From Godoliya to Maidagin, all shops were closed.

On May 12, a Varanasi court approved a videographic assessment of the disputed structure, days after members of the Muslim community hindered the survey. Ravi Kumar Diwakar, Civil Judge (Senior Division) of Varanasi, established directions for the survey and stated that it will now take place, with a report due by May 17.

Moreover, the Muslim side has petitioned the Supreme Court to have the survey halted. While the petitioners had asked for an immediate halt to the proceedings, the court declined to do so without properly hearing the case.

It is worth noting that Jitendra Singh Bisen, the chairman of the Vishwa Vedic Sanatan Sangh, told the media after completing the survey on May 14 that there is much more inside the premises than imagined. One of the claimants in the lawsuit is the Vishwa Vedic Sanatan Sangh, which wants to pray at the Shringar Gauri Sthal, which is located inside the disputed structure. The case was filed by five women: Rakhi Singh, Laxmi Devi, Sita Sahu, Manju Vyas, and Rekha Pathak Rakhi Singh. Rakhi Singh is a founding member of the Vishwa Vedic Sanatan Sangh.

The committee will submit the report to the court on May 17. OpIndia tried to reach out to Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain, the lawyer involved in the case, but he was not reachable.

From Bhilwara to Ram Navami processions: 5 ways in which communal crimes against Hindus are whitewashed

On Tuesday, a 22-year-old Hindu boy named Adarsh Tapadia was stabbed to death by members of another community over a petty dispute in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district. Time and again we have witnessed increased hate crimes against Hindus. However, the communal angle in such incidents is often subsumed many times, while they are categorised as mere law and order issues.

The underlying factor that binds all of this – be it the alleged targetted death of Lavanya by suicide to the brutal murder of Adarsh Tapadia last week, is the whitewashing of communal crimes in which Hindus have been regularly and repeatedly victimised.

The concerted effort so employed to belittle the oppression of Hindus by extremists conspires in many ways. It starts off with denying the Hindu hatred which often acts as the trigger for the attacks and ends up resting the onus of violence on Hindus themselves. Here are five ways in which a toolkit to whitewash atrocities against Hindus develops patterns in propaganda, positioning of narratives and shapes power.

Islamist propaganda in the guise of ‘Fact checking’

On the 14th of April, a letter by terror organisation Lashkar-e-Islam surfaced, where Islamists issued threats to the Kashmiri Hindu community. Titled a ‘Letter to kafirs’ it said, “Leave the valley or face dire consequences”, giving a final warning to Kashmiri Pandits, migrants and ‘RSS agents’. However, the self-proclaimed ‘fact-checking’ website AltNews indulged in mental gymnastics to prove that Islamists had not threatened Hindus and that the letter was fake. It pointed out a few spelling mistakes, claimed factual inaccuracies and the letter not being signed as reasons why the letter should not be taken seriously.

While AltNews has a habit of dishing out clean chits and making presumptions based on flimsy evidence, it has turned out to be a fake news peddler itself many times. The website recently gave a free pass to the Muslim community after a controversy erupted when posters bearing incendiary quotes attributed to prominent Muslim leaders from AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi to Islamic hate preacher Zakir Naik were installed in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh. The posters contained dire warnings to Hindus, racial slurs and glorified Islamic invaders in medieval India.

On the other hand, another leftist and Islamist propaganda website ‘The Wire’ is known for conflating Muslim sentiments with perpetual victimhood. In a recent video, well-known Islamist apologist Arfa Khanum Sherwani urged that Hindus should come out and apologise for recent incidents of violence during Hindu festivals in India. Sherwani asked Hindus to ‘disassociate themselves from all religious groups’ and come to the aid of Muslims who, despite pelting stones and firing at police, were victims in her eyes. Wire’s co-founder Siddharth Varadarajan has even claimed that the Godhra killings were just a conspiracy hatched by Hindu nationalists to blame the Muslims. In a tweet, he said, “we are still living a lie that “anti-Hindu conspirators” forcibly entered a railway coach filled to the brim with karsevaks, who poured 60 litres of petrol and set it on fire without even a single passenger seeing them do this.”

In 2021, when a frenzied mob of about 400-500 Islamists attacked the ISKCON temple in the Noakhali district of Bangladesh, Genesia Alves, a columnist with leftist portal Scroll justified the attack by saying, ‘as you sow,’ (suggesting – so shall you reap) while pinning the blame on the temple authorities for the attack. The instances where these online portals have indulged in professional whitewashing hate crimes against Hindus are countless.

The entitlement called ‘Muslim areas’

Recently, two NDTV journalists wanted to point out that it was the ‘provocative music and slogans’ which incited violence among the Muslim population as Shobhayatras celebrating Hindu festivals passed through ‘Muslim ghettos’ in many cities in India. Sreenivasan Jain, In his tweet, not only suggested that there are ‘no-go’ ‘Muslim areas’ which should be left untouched by the ‘kafir’ Hindus, he also veneered his argument by overstating the ‘raising of slogans’ as the cause of violence. Later, Gargi Rawat too was seen unapologetically justifying the attack on Hindu processions by arguing stating that the ‘procession was taken through Muslim areas’ and ended up blaming the ‘aggressive’ sloganeering for the ‘invariable’ stone-pelting and clashes.

Both, Rawat and Jain, whitewashed the actual crime, which was stone-pelting and attacks of petrol bombs on the procession by conflating that with the music being played that was ‘problematic’. Hindu presence is seen as provocative in places where Muslim population is dominant, which have now evolved into private precincts of the Muslim community on a city level. The mere sight of Hindu elements in these areas, as we have seen has resulted in an escalation of violence from the other side.

However, it is not the violent actors from the Muslim side who pelt stones at Hindu processions, but the presence of processions themself that is held responsible for the hate crimes inside the minds of these ‘secularists’. When brute street power meets narrative setters, they pave way for ‘Muslim areas’ of two kinds – The first one being the physical occupation in the city while the latter is an intellectual space which whitewashes crimes against Hindus.

Employing ‘influencers’

We all have seen how prominent names in the Western Media and its employed footsoldiers in India consciously peddle fake news and propaganda on Indian issues to serve their local politics. Now academicians and ex-bureaucrats to global figures to artists have been asked to participate in decrying India with a meta-narrative of ‘Muslim persecution in India’. These eminences have taken it upon themselves to root for creating a political opposition to Narendra Modi, which the opposition parties have failed in doing so in the electoral process.

Their process, however, starts from secularising the instances where communal hatred in terms of stone peltings, shootings, and killings against the Hindu population and then trivialising any action against Islamic extremism as a threat to Muslims. Lately, former National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon, ex-foreign secretary Sujatha Singh, former Lt Governor of Delhi Najeeb Jung, former home secretary G K Pillai and former prime minister Manmohan Singh’s principal secretary T K A Nair among the 103 others wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to condemn the “politics of hate” allegedly practised by state governments under BJP’s control.

Whining over the anti-encroachment drives across states in India, they have termed them a “frenzy of hate-filled destruction in the country with Muslims and other minorities at the sacrificial altar”.

Washington Post columnist and law professor Khaled Beydoun is known for posting lies on his Twitter handle related to India. Recently, Beydoun blamed Hindus for the crime committed by the mob of Muslims when in Karauli. Muslims had attacked a rally of Hindus celebrating the Hindu new year when it was passing through a Muslim-dominated area. Beydoun has previously claimed ‘violent Hindu supremacy’ in India with racial attacks on Hindutva and the BJP anchored with fake news.

German soccer player Mesut Ozil, during the month of Ramzan, tweeted, “Praying during the holy night of Lailat al-Qadr for the safety and well-being of our Muslim brothers and sisters in India. Let’s spread awareness of this shameful situation!” The Arsenal Footballer asked “What is happening to human rights in the so-called largest democracy in the world?” with the hashtag ‘Break the Silence’.

In a tweet, TV presenter and cook Padma Lakshmi insinuated, “Fellow Hindus, don’t succumb to this fear-mongering. There is no threat to Hinduism in India or anywhere else.” Such a statement from Lakshmi is itself a reflection of Hinduphobia that co-exists with the denial of Hindu human rights from people like her.

Alike his previous reports, British-American MSNBC Journalist Mehdi Hasan carried his tirade against India and PM Modi saying that Modi is hell-bent on re-creating the “lost Hindu kingdom” one likes to call “Hindu Rashtra” and is “far-right” and “supremacist”. The propaganda by Beydoun to Ozil and Padma Laxmi to Hasan tells us that the toolkit of the Muslim brotherhood’s targeting of India was activated in the month of Ramzan, which in reality saw widespread violence against Hindus.

From national-level useful idiots to the International influencers, everyone is employed to further the narrative to claim persecution of ‘Muslims’ in India, and in a way relegate the Hindu concerns to the downstream. All of this, was being done at a time when violence had spurged against Hindus during festivals like New year, Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti. Yet for the ‘liberal’ propagandists, Hindus were responsible for the incidents, as a majority and the Muslims remained full-time victims as usual.

Not addressing the targetted killings in Bengal and Kerala

Political killings in Bengal are not new. However, since the triumphant victory of Mamata Banerjee as a third-time CM over the challenging rise of the BJP in state politics, political killings have been layered with Islamist undertones, while in many instances, BJP workers have been killed for being Hindus.

As late as May 2022, a BJP member named Arjun Chowrasiya was found hanging in West Bengal’s Cossipore. Two days later, 22-year-old Debashish Manna who was the son of a local BJP booth worker suffered the same fate in the East Medinipur district. Similarly, A BJP worker’s body was found mysteriously hanging from a tree at Mallarpur town in Birbhum District, West Bengal. In a number of such cases, families of the victims have alleged political ploys behind the gruesome murders.

Kerala, which remains the last bastion of the Communist parties, has become a breeding ground for Islamic radicalism, leftist terrorism and urban Naxalism. In a state where the killings of BJP/RSS workers is normalised, it has become difficult to survive in the state as an ideologically opposing force. In a recent horrific incident, a senior Rashtriya Swayam Sevak (RSS) leader Sreenivasan, was murdered by a group of 5-6 assailants who arrived on three bikes. Notably, all the 20 accused in the case are affiliated to or members of the radical Popular Front of India (PFI) or its political wing Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).

However, this was only one such incident which made it to the news. Avenging the deaths of RSS workers, activists for wearing their Hindu identity on their sleeves has evolved into a dangerous paradigm. Moreover, in many cases, most of these crimes fail to make it to the mainstream of Indian politics. The real threat to Indian democracy lies in the said states of Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and others which have witnessed increased violence against Hindutva workers. Incidents like these cannot be defined as mere political killings as those accused in the cases often belong to the radical leftist and Islamist elements.

Belittling Hindu concerns

We have seen that whenever concerns of Hindus are raised in the political arena, they are categorised as ‘majoritarian’ – and are not considered worthy to be discussed. Since the times have changed with Hindutva becoming the ‘mainstream’ of Indian politics, attempts to marginalise concerns of ethnic Hindu communities have been started by the circles on the Left. And if at all, those are highlighted, they are charged for creating animosity between community groups and are hence responsible for creating further violence.

Recently, on May 12, 2022, Kashmiri Hindu youth Rahul Bhat, was murdered by three JeM terrorists in Srinagar. Soon, some of the journalists were eager to blame Vivek Agnihotri’s The Kashmir Files for the violence in the valley. One would wonder – how a film documenting the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus be responsible for the recent killings of more Hindus in the valley. Putting the onus on the Hindu community whatsoever the incident is a thumb rule of this permanent game.

The ethnic cleansing of the Dharmic population in Bangladesh and Pakistan was not enough, the liberals’ opposition to the CAA came easy. The amendment that accelerated the citizenship process for persecuted minorities in India’s neighbourhood was painted as ‘discriminatory’ towards the local Muslim population. Simply put, whenever Hindus assert themselves with their grievances before the state, they are not allowed to be seen as stand-alone Hindu problems – and somehow a Muslim angle is penetrated.

The whitewashing of communal crimes against Hindus has evolved as a further step towards large-scale purging of Hindus, the first one being their denial.

Srinagar Mayor hails Aurangzeb, prays for mercy and blessings after Devendra Fadnavis’ ‘kutta bhi nahi peshab karega’ speech for Mughal tyrant’s grave

On Sunday (May 15), the Mayor of Srinagar Junaid Azim Mattu courted controversy after he hailed the Mughal tyrant Aurangzeb, who had been infamous for committing unspeakable atrocities on the Hindu community. He made the remarks in response to a recent speech made by former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The latter had lambasted AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi for visiting the grave of Aurangzeb in Aurangabad on May 12 this year. The controversial AIMIM leader had gone to Aurangabad to lay the foundation stone of the School of Excellence.

“Owaisi had bowed his head before the grave of Aurangzeb and you kept watching. Have some shame. Owaisi, hear me out. One day, even dogs will also not pee on the identity of Aurangzeb when the hues of saffron will spread across Hindustan,” Fadnavis had remarked.

While reacting to the remarks by the BJP leader, Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu hailed Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. “May Allah (SWT)’s mercy and blessings be upon Hafiz-e-Quran, Shahenshah Hazrat Muhi-ud-Din Muhammad Aurangzeb (R.A.) and his grave,” he had tweeted.

Mattu is also the President of the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party’s Youth wing. It must be mentioned that he had earlier opposed the abrogation of Article 370 by the Indian Parliament.

“Article 370 is the pivot around which the state’s sense of unique identity existed. We have always believed Article 370 and Article 35-A are sacrosanct and non-negotiable. We have consulted senior-most constitutional experts and luminaries and will be contesting the move in the Supreme Court,” he had told The Economic Times.

California Church shooting: One dead, over four injured after a gunman opens fire

On Sunday, a gunman opened fire inside a Southern California church, killing one person and gravely injuring four others. The incident happened at 1:26 PM (PDT) inside the Geneva Presbyterian Church in Laguna Woods, California, some 50 miles southeast of Los Angeles, in a town mostly comprised of pensioners with a strong Asian culture.

Congregants overcame the perpetrator, who was subsequently chained up, saving more fatalities, according to officials. According to Carrie Braun, an Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson, the majority of the victims were of Taiwanese origin, however, the police are still investigating whether they had been targeted.

Four of the patients, she added, were in serious condition, while another was being treated for minor injuries. Authorities discovered the deceased individual inside the church. Further information on the status of those hospitalised was not immediately available; the Sheriff’s Department identified them as four Asian males aged 66 to 92 and an 86-year-old Asian lady.

Following a morning service, the assailant, an Asian man in his 60s, opened fire inside the church in Laguna Woods, California, as people ate lunch. The investigation is still in its early stages, according to police sources, and no motive has been discovered. Authorities are questioning around 30 persons who were inside the church at the time of the incident.

This follows after an 18-year-old man named Payton Gendron opened fire at a busy supermarket in Buffalo, New York, on May 14 (local time), while live-streaming the incident on the streaming site Twitch. On a busy day, the attacker entered the supermarket Tops with a firearm.

Gendron is said to have driven for several hours from his house near Binghamton to the region where the majority of the black population lives. According to reports, the gunfire started in the parking lot. Witnesses said he opened fire outside before entering the shop. A former police officer guarded the store. He attempted to shoot the assailant but was killed in the attempt. As per CBS, the man hurled racist comments throughout the attack, according to police sources.
